Brittany Ramos DeBarros….If Only Andrew Gounardes Didn’t Vote to Gerrymander Our District

Brittany Ramos DeBarros was on Channel 1 tonight. She said that she is able to speak to the everyday people because she understand the struggles that working class people go through because she and her family struggled.

Brittany Ramos DeBarros was in the army from 2011 – 2019. She went to Afghanistan and served as a strategic communication officer. When Brittany came home from the Afghanistan, she realized soldiers were lied to. She became an activist for veterans. Today, a bill for Veteran’s was voted down in Congress and Brittany was upset by it.

Brittany believes that she can energize many different types of community because she represents many groups of people. She was sincere and likeable. If you want to speak with her, she will be in Bay Ridge on Sunday:

When Brittany was asked about Max Rose, she didn’t talk about Max Rose at all, she spoke about corruption and problems in the community that she was outraged by. Very classy and professional move! Brittany used that time to passionately speak out against poor living conditions for families with low incomes and veteran health care too.
Brittany could have spoken about Rose – she campaigned for him last time. Max Rose became the typical politician and was afraid to speak out against corruption in our district. Britney isn’t afraid.
Brittany Ramos DeBarros chances at winning this seat were hurt by her own party. Senator Andrew Gounardes voted for district maps that gerrymandered our district, even though Gounardes spoke out against gerrymandering for years.

The maps that Gounardes voted in favor of were was so bad that the courts ruled they were unconstitutional and ordered a master to remake the lines. (Info)

When the Master redid the congressional district map, he put more Republicans in the district. Too bad Andrew Gounardes didn’t have the integrity to do the job right, so that the district was fair.

July 28, 2022RIP Phil Guarino – Queens Man Found in Bklyn

RIP Phil Guarino. First, his black 2020 Mercedes was found in Queens and he was still missing.

Then his body was found in Dyker Heights earlier this week. He was only 28-years old.

Guarino was a construction worker, but recently left that job to take a city job.
Friends of Phil Guarino shared messages on Facebook when they hadn’t heard from him. They knew something was wrong when Phil didn’t return home to take care of his dog.

People who knew Guarino remembered him as being a good person.

The Daily News put the story on the front page of their paper with an awful title. Imagine how shocked family and friends of Phil Gurino must be. : (

Hopefully, the police will share a picture of the perp, so he can be caught. That may be difficult because it happened at night and surveillance videos taken at night are not as good as those taken in the daytime.

RIP Phil Guarino. Prayers for his family and friends.

July 28, 2022Why Did Andrew Gounardes Give $50,000 To An Organization Instead of Purchasing Security Cameras for Schools in His District?

Senator Gounardes shared the above photo on Facebook and wrote that he gave $50,000 to an organization. (See here) Usually, Gounardes is very secretive and does not share how money was spent in our district.

After the shootings this past Spring, the news discussed locking the entrances doors on all NYC schools for security. Everyone must realize now that school shooters are on suicide missions, so schools should be secured. The news explained why they aren’t locked. (Story here)

We should have seen Andrew Gounardes take action for every school in his district. Investing in security cameras for the entrance doors for every school in the district should have been a priority to him.

Solar-powered Ring cameras are easy to install and they don’t need to be wired into the electrical system. For less than $300, every school could have received a camera that can be accessed from a password-protected app on a phone or computer. Some schools would need more than one camera, but they are very affordable!

While a locked school door isn’t going to stop a shooter, it may delay a shooter from entering the building and give the police time to get there.
Why does Andrew Gounardes forget he represents Brooklyn when he goes to Albany?
Giving money to NYAGV doesn’t change anything for anyone in Gounardes’ district. That group should raise their own money! They have a 212 phone number and we have never seen any of them in Brooklyn, when guns appeared in our community.
I looked up the anti-gun group NYAGV, which stands for New Yorkers Against Gun Violence. On their Facebook page, it shows they put out endorsements in the last election. (See here) I guess Gounardes wanted to buy an endorsement from the group!

There is no way that Governor Kathy Hochul would have wanted to give New Yorkers Against Gun Violence money, as they endorsed her primary challenger, Tom Suozzi. (See here)
The other gun advocacy group that used to be in our area, Moms Demand Action, was silent in our community this year when guns were found outside of high schools in our area. (See here and here)
Two years ago, neither Andrew Gounardes or Moms Demand Action said a word when 28 rounds were filed from AR-15 in Dyker Heights. The man didn’t go to jail and no one demanded action. (Info) I wrote and called Moms Demand Action several times, but never heard back.
Bay Ridge business owner, Sammy Hamden went to the news when he was shot at because not one politician spoke to him about the shooting. Gounardes’ office is just a few blocks from Hamden’s business. Sammy Hamden wanted the community to know what happened so we could be safe. (See here)
We need to do a lot better because Andrew Gounardes has underestimated safety in our community and carelessly gave $50,000 to a group, instead of taking action to secure schools.

July 27, 2022Condolences to the Dog Owner Who Lost Their Dog Tonight Near Shore Road

I saw someone shared what happened to your dog tonight.
The kind person was riding in Uber on the Belt Parkway. Her driver hit your dog on the Belt Parkway by the rest stop area before Cannonball Park around 9:30 pm tonight. The driver tried to swerve and couldn’t stop due to potentially causing an accident with other cars. This good person took the driver’s license plate number (she’s a dog owner too, so she feels terrible.)
You were probably in the area playing with the dog and saw it happen or your dog went missing and you are just finding out now. I’m so sorry. We were praying for you tonight because we know how terrible it is to lose a good dog.

July 27, 2022Andrew Gounardes Didn’t Share the Debate Link – David Yassky Did

David Yassky shared the link to the Zoom debate with Andrew Gounardes. Yassky said that he previously represented 30% of the new district.

Why didn’t Andrew Gounardes share the link to the debate? He must not have wanted Bay Ridge to know. On social media, a few of the people who are close with Gounardes are the only ones talking about the debate.
Andrew Gounardes thought that quietly gerrymandering Bay Ridge was alright. Bay Ridge had been gerrymandered for years by the Republicans, so we were shocked that when Andrew had the chance to do the right thing for Bay Ridge, he didn’t.
The courts had to step in and ruled the congressional maps w3ere unconstitutional. The report specifically mentioned our district.
Now a lot of money will be wasted on having a second election in August. We should have seen Andrew Gounardes calling for fair districts, but he didn’t.
Gounardes represents only 20% of the district and would not be a good leader in this district. Why? This is a waterfront district. Gounardes hasn’t improved our waterfront – the bike path is a mess!
What Andrew didn’t realize in redistricting Brooklyn, is that he would have an opponent. Thankfully, David Yassky is a moderate Democrat and that’s a good thing! He’s represented Brooklyn before and we need to hear more from him!
The video of the debate is not on Schnepps Media Youtube page yet. (That’s here) If I see it, I will share it. If you see it, please share a link!

July 27, 2022R Train in the Summer – 95th Street Station

The R train makes its last stop at 95th Street then heads back to Manhattan.
These riders were still sleeping as Ridgites were heading to work. Don’t look at the floor of the train – it will remind you how bad it had to smell.

Money has been set aside by NYC to help people, but those coming to our district aren’t receiving help.

July 27, 2022Michael Ragusa Explained Bay Ridge Well on Arthur Aidala’s Show

On July 26th, Michael Ragusa, who announced that he will be running the Bay Ridge City Council seat was on the Arthur Aidala talk show.
Ragusa said he was never a politician and he worked with all different types of people. He said people are concerned with inflation, crime and taxes.
Michael Ragusa stated that he looked at the Compstats. He read the stats for sex crimes (up 116%) and grand larceny was very high. Bath Beach and Bensonhurst is high in murders and rapes.
I like that Ragusa is a regular person and so motivated!
