Was Team Gounardes Asked to Leave Sunset Park on Sunday?

On Sunday, Andrew Gounardes showed up with two elected District Leaders to Sunset Park on 6th Avenue.

In Sunset Park, people do not mince their words. The man who was in charge of the market event in the park had a bullhorn and said, “We know you came here for a photo op, get the ____ out.”

The photo Gounardes posted to Twitter was quite different (here).

Jacqui Painter is from Red Hook and was just elected in June – she doesn’t know Sunset Park. But Julio Pena is from the area and should have known better!

Also note that Iwen Chu is with Gounardes and she clearly doesn’t understand this community!

Andrew Gounardes has been office for years and has never done anything to stop the land abuse in Sunset Park. Andrew never attended a rally in the adjacent community to stop the homeless shelters or even spoke out when Industry City was planning expansion several years ago.

Gounardes and his friend, Brad Lander seem very interested in the Waterfront Property of Brooklyn seen in District 26 in dark blue below:

For Painter and Pena to think Gounardes is a good match for Sunset Park, shows they don’t understand that community at all.

Painter and Pena should be telling Sunset Park that Gounardes voted to gerrymander the area. And Andrew Gounardes has accepted a lot of donations that he shouldn’t have accepted. (Info here and here)

Oh Jacqui and Julio if you should ever see this, I was born and raised in Sunset Park. While I love Bay Ridge, the community in Sunset Park is amazing….do better for them.

Chill Hookah Lounge Was Sold To a New Owner – The Truthiness of Tweets into Bay Ridge….

Why is news always like this in Bay Ridge?

Justin Brannan made a graphic to say that the owner of Chill Hookah Lounge surrendered his license. The truth is the owner sold the business, so he turned in the liquor license.

Andrew Gounardes followed Brannan’s lead on Twitter and tweeted the same thing (seen here), but Andrew says it took years of collective effort….”

Rather than welcoming the new owner, Senator Gounardes also took credit for the liquor license being surrendered. Gounardes is an attorney, so he knows liquor licenses are not transferable from an old owner to a new owner.

Chill Hookah Lounge was for sale for a long time. (See here) The business finally was sold to a new owner.

Chill’s liquor license was valid until October 2023, so they were able to fill out this form and get a refund for the unused portion of the license. Liquor licenses aren’t cheap (see here).

I spoke to the new owner when I called Chill today. When he answered the phone, I asked if he was a manager. He told me he was the new owner and he was surprised that politicians wrote that. Chill Hookah Lounge is only serving hookah – not liquor.

In the beginning of October, Brannan, Gounardes, Tannousis and Malliotakis wrote a letter to NYS to ask for Chill’s liquor license to be removed. There was gunshots fired outside of Chill last Fall. (More info) I called the owner back then and he told me that not one politician had contacted him.

At the end of October, despite the politician’s letter, Chill Hookah Lounge’s Liquor license was renewed for three years 10/27/21 – to 10/31/2023. (See here)

If you are following Bay Ridge’s history, you would know that area on 5th Avenue has some problems. In 2018, No Quarter Tavern was forced to closed due to gang violence. The owner tried hiring security and changing her establishment theme (pirates), but the same crowd kept coming back.(See here)

In February 2022, a young man was killed outside of Catrina’s on 3rd Avenue. (See here) Senator Gounardes said he was going to have Catrina’s license removed. (See here) Andrew sent a letter and nothing happened. If you have passed by Catrina’s recently, you would see Catrina’s is doing well.

Bora Bora is opening on 7322 – 3rd Avenue. It’s next to Anthony’s Butcher.

The workers are completing the inside upgrade. It looks nice, but they also look very hot!

People love these juice places. Bora Bora will be very popular in Bay Ridge.

What used to be in this location was Vape Rite (don’t worry another smoke shop is opening across the street at the old Neugards)

Brittany Ramos DeBarros Called Out the Lack of Diversity in the Bay Ridge Democrats

Brittany Ramos DeBarros tweeted a picture of the Bay Ridge Democrats with Gounardes pointing out the lack of diversity of the group.

Brittany posted this to Councilman Brannan here.

Hardly any Bay Ridge Democrats showed up for the photo. Years ago, there were a lot more people standing with Andrew Gounardes.

In the photo are three politicians (Gounardes, Rose & Brannan) and at least three staff members from Gounardes or Brannan’s office (this includes District Leaders – Chris McCreight and Tori Burhas Kelly).

A person responded to Brittany that she many need these people if she wins the primary. Brittany boldly responded back boldly.

The Bay Ridge Democrats have surprised Bay Ridge over the years….and not in a good way.

1. They supported Bernie Sanders over Joe Bidden. (Seen here)

2. The club was silent about Andrew Gounardes voting to gerrymander Brooklyn. This is a form of voter suppression and corruption, so we should have heard from the Bay Ridge Democrats.

3. Not one District Leader or member of the Bay Ridge Democrats spoke out against the Nathan’s school deal which was shared in the news. (See here) Their silence says they agree with it. Gounardes and Rose were silent about this as well.

4. When the Bay Ridge Democrats saw that Andrew Gounardes red light camera bill was watered down – why didn’t they speak out? Justin Brannan was lobbied over the cameras. (See here)

Andrew Gounardes boasted that his bill was going to suspend deivers who received five violations. BUT ANDRE DIDN’T CARRY THAT BILL…all NYC got was more cameras – no penalties for repeat offenders.

5. When Justin Brannan voted in favor of loading zones, a bill which he failed to share was backed by lobbyists, why didn’t the Bay Ridge Democrats speak out? (Info) Senator Gounardes was silent.

6. When Justin Brannan pushed a drone bill for lobbyists since his first month in office and throughout the pandemic, why didn’t the Bay Ridge Democrats speak up? (See bill) Andrew Gounardes and Max Rose were silent.

The Bay Ridge Democrats used to share that they were against corruption.

Please vote against Andrew Gounardes and Max Rose – let’s break the boys club up and end corruption. #SomethingIsntRightHere
