RIP Monica Chan. Woman Killed By Van- Ovington & 7th Avenue

Around 11:30 am this morning, Monica Chan, a 67-year-old woman in our community was struck by a van on 7th Avenue and Ovington Avenue. (See video)

She was unconscious and taken to NYU Langone, but has died.
The driver made the left on 7th Avenue and hit the woman. The 60-year-old driver of the van stayed on the scene. (Source)
We knew she was seriously hurt because the police have the area taped off like a crime scene, (usually the ambulance comes and there is no tape.)
AMNY shared this information: “There have been 15 crashes at that intersection over the past 11 years injuring 25 people, including 18 who were in cars, four on foot, and another three cyclists, according to city data.” (Source)
RIP Monica Chan. Prayers for her family.

July 16, 2022Fox Sports and Graphics On the 9/11 Memorial

Tonight, Fox Sports put sports logos where the World Trade Towers used to be.
A memorial is at this location, but those working at Fox either were too young to understand what happened here or don’t understand why this is wrong, so social media was buzzing tonight.
Fox issued a statement on 7/17

July 16, 2022Democrats Push Congestion Pricing While NYC Trains Aren’t Safe

Trains haven’t been made safe again. The mayor is trying, but he has a lot to undo.
Instead of supporting the mayor, politicians are pushing for congestion pricing. Those who don’t take the subway, just don’t get it. It’s not the time for congestion pricing.

If it was about the congestion in NYC, politicians would have gone after Uber and Lyft a long time ago!
Some billionaire’s lobbyist who owns a company that requires deliveries must be pushing for congestion pricing so the roads are clear for deliveries. Congestion pricing = clear the roads for the wealthy.
Some politicians are pushing congestion pricing as something to help “clean the air” and help with noise pollution. But neighborhoods bordering the zone will receive the traffic and pollution.

These politicians also like to be driven around the city. Why isn’t Mark Levine on the train?

Nicole Malliotakis doesn’t have control over this, but she is trying to stop this new tax.

July 16, 2022998 – Mental Health Hotline

998 is now the mental health hotline. The three digit number is supposed to be easy to remember.
It’s for children and adults. They don’t contact parents and they don’t call the police – they just speak with the caller.

July 15, 2022Who Wanted To Exclude Dyker Heights in Our New District and Gerrymander Brooklyn?

Above is the new proposed NYC Council district for our area (which will be called District 38). You can see the whole map here.

You will notice that the new district includes Bay Ridge with part of Sunset Park, It excludes Dyker Heights and Bath Beach (Republican blocks have been omitted).

Machine Democrats think they have tricked people into thinking they aren’t gerrymandering because they are forming an “Asian District.” This is really to omit Republican voters from the district, like they did with the senate district. (See here)
Asians can run in any district they want – they don’t need an “Asian District” formed by white men. Any politicians promoting an “Asian District” shouldn’t be in office because this is racism. If they can’t represent Asians, they shouldn’t run for office!
In the last election, Justin Brannan didn’t do as well as an incumbent, as Vinnie Gentile did. They added more Democrats to the district. See the political breakdown of the new district here.

Dyker Heights didn’t vote for Brannan because they ask for his help and he doesn’t help them. Red areas are where Brian Fox won. You can see this map here.

Sunset Park is being divided. Alexa Aviles should be fighting hard against this as Sunset Park always gets treated unfairly because they think the people there won’t fight (they didn’t fight when the Senate district was made this way). The Democrat machine thinks they have Aviles beat here. (And they may – see here)

A little over a week ago, the Bay Ridge Democrats asked people to speak out against dividing Bay Ridge. (See here – it says 139 people sent letters.) Rumor was that Bay Ridge was going to be split between Brooklyn and Staten Island. We did not see Justin Brannan share that information.
Dennis Walcott appeared on NY 1 tonight discussing redistricting. He said they didn’t take input from any politicians (LOL). Walcott served as NYC Chancellor under Bloomberg (after the Cathy Black fiasco).
On Tuesday, July 19th, there is a Zoom meeting at 3:00 pm to discuss redistricting. (Why have a meeting at 3 pm?)

On July 27th, NYC Council member, Althea Stevens is having a Zoom meeting to tell communities how they can fight back against the gerrymandered map. (Notice that Justin Brannan did not set up a meeting about this.)

The public will have 30 days to respond with their thoughts about these new maps.
