93rd Street Residents Told CB 10 About the Problems Happening at The Bay Ridge Hotel

Tonight, at the Community Board 10 meeting, parents spoke about the problem they had with The Bay Ridge Hotel and the unruly transient guests. These parents tried dealing with the two managers of the hotel, but they were unhelpful.

The hotel guests are leaving drug paraphernalia on 93rd Street and fighting outside the hotel repeatedly. This is supposed to be a hotel with guests that stay for a short time, but the guests are staying a long time and being unruly, arguing and throwing bottles at each other. Other residents have called the police in the middle of the night about these guests.

Josephine, the manager of CB 10 referred to this as transient hotel use.

The Bay Ridge parents reported the issue to 311 and 911. This couple said the 68th Precinct was excellent at responding to their calls, but the problem continued days later over and over (they have been dealing with this since late 2024, but it has been terrible since last Summer).

The parents said at tonight’s CB 10 meeting that they asked Justin Brannan for help when he was Councilman, but he didn’t take care of the problem. They also contacted the current NYC Council representative, Kayla Santosuosso. Santosuosso has not respond to these Ridgites (while she has only been in office for a short time, we shouldn’t see her ignoring resident’s issues).

The Prince Hotel is gone, but 93rd Street residents can’t get peace.

We were all rooting for the new owner. We are disappointed that he hasn’t had these unruly people removed to keep the peace with his neighbors. Many families live on that block (or walk on that block to get to go to the Pre-K at 369 – 93rd Street).

Bay Ridge Showed Up for Schnitzel Haus!

Community Board 10 met tonight. Most of the people in the room were there to show support for Fred and Amber, the owners of Schnitzel Haus opening at their new location at 114 Bay Ridge Avenue (Casa Pepe’s location).

In addition, there were Ridgites on Zoom and over 60 people sent emails to support the the Schnizel Haus. Nicely done, Bay Ridge!

CB 10 gave a sneak peek of the new place:

A few neighbors behind Schnitzel Haus objected to the liquor license because they are parents and don’t want the noise. They purchased the home after Casa Pepe was closed so they are concerned because their kids need to be able to sleep. Fred and Amber had sound-proofing installed in the building, so hopefully that will help.

One person objecting to the liquor license pointed out that there was an illegal extension on that property. The property owner is removing the extension this week (Fred and Amber don’t own this property). As a side note: Lee and I loved that extension because it was always sunny at Casa Pepe in the afternoon.

Community Board 10’s committee voted positively for Schnitzel Haus’ liquor license. On Monday, the vote will go before the whole board.

May God bless Fred and Amber at their new location!

165 Apartments For This 86th Street Lot?

Senator Steve Chan shared that 2601- 86 Street is zoned R-5B and there is a lot of chatter about this lot mainly because people love this Petco store.

A developer wants it to be rezoned to R7A because he wants to build a 12 story 165 unit apartment building with community space.

This area already has enough enough traffic and congestion.

This building has not gone to vote with the community board yet. Senator Chan wrote that he would keep the community posted.

Elif’s Custom Goodies in Bay Ridge sells the wreath above. (See online shop)

Ramadan takes place from February 17th to March 19th this year.

Earlier this week, there was a Ramadan event on 5th Avenue and 68th Street to help families get setup. They shared this good video:

I thought there would be a lot more free iftars around NYC now that Zohran Mamdami is mayor.

But it appears there are far less iftars. Many groups which had them prior years have not announced anything this year. Senator Andrew Gounardes has not announced an iftar this year either.
