February 17, 2026Mayor Mandani Announcing Potential 9.5% Increase in Property Taxes. Andrew Gounardes & Kayla Santosuosso Are Silent

Mayor Mamdani announced his budget plans. He needs Governor Hochul to “tax the rich,” use NYC’s reserves or he will raise NYC property taxes to 9.5%. News: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/17/nyregion/budget-mamdani-property-taxes.html

Queens Borough President came out against it strongly:
Queens Beep Donovan Richards speaks out against Mamdani’s proposed property tax hike, which would wind up disproportionately targeting many Black homeowners pic.twitter.com/e84ruR7oPy
— Josie Stratman (@JosieStratman) February 17, 2026
Councilmember Kayla Santosuosso didn’t write anything about Mandami’s potential tax increase.
Santosuosso isn’t a home owner and she doesn’t realize rents will increase as property taxes are increased. Santosuosso is friends with Mamdami, so she won’t criticize or speak for the community. On Sunday, Mamdami said Santosuosso was his former boss on El Yateem’s campaign while he was in Coney Island.
Senator Andrew Gounardes was also silent. Gounardes made a video about gold bars instead. Andrew Gounardes’ former boss, Senator Bob Mendez was in the news and sentenced for accepting gold bars. Gounardes was silent when that information came out. Look:
NYC Comptroller Mark Levine spoke out:

In November, vote better Bay Ridge!
