Little Amal is Traveling in Brooklyn – Free Events in Most Areas

Little Amal, an twelve foot tall puppet has traveled over 9,000 miles in twelve countries (Turkey, Greece, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, UK, etc). See photos here

Little Amal arrived in NYC with her giant suitcase this week! She will be in New York City for 17 days and will have events throughout the city – most are free.

The giant puppet represents a 10-year-old Syrian refugee, who is searching for her uncle. This art highlights the plight of refugee children and the hardship displaced refugees face as they flee from their land and violence. (How sad, but so informative!)

I was so excited when I saw this video.

I was disappointed the flyer for the Bay Ridge Event had this:

I am surprised that organizations in our area stepped up to sponsor this important event. Purchasing some juice and cookies, rather than requesting parents bring items will limit who is attending…that’s probably the point of the flyer.

Several organizations in our community receive a lot of money from NYC Council, Councilman Brannan and Assembly representative, Mathylde Frontus. Disappointed to see local organizations that received so much wouldn’t share this event like the rest of NYC.

Other events for Little Amal have invited the community in to participate in the free event. The flyers look like this:

This event is free and open to the public, and families are encouraged to attend together. There is nothing to prepare, just show up with an open mind and heart. There will be dance, music, puppets, and workshops. Amal’s journey in the park begins at 4 PM at Queens Museum and ends at Queens Theatre, where our festivities begin at 5 PM.

Every day events for Little Amal are posted here and look like this:

Vito LaBella Is On The Cover of the Daily News

Normally, I wouldn’t share something with foul language, but I’m sharing this because it’s important.

Bay Ridge used to be a very beautiful neighborhood. There has been a decline. Major areas are not being maintained – garbage and graffiti are a problem on some streets. If you live on a street where your neighbors upkeep their homes and the storefronts aren’t empty, then you probably don’t notice this.

We asked Andrew Gounardes how money was spent in thisw area and Gounardes doesn’t feel we have the right to know where he spent the money. The money isn’t being spent on maintaining the neighborhood, so it’s either being given to not-for-profits or used outside of our district. All this tax money they have collected from us, isn’t being seen by the residents who live here.

I understand Vito’s frustration with coming home from vacation to Brooklyn. He notices the change in our neighborhoods and it is upsetting. Vito is running for office because he knows he is a leader and he can make a change in the neighborhood and represent people.

Vito explained why he said that on Facebook:

Vito isn’t a professional politician, which is a good thing!

Recently, a Maga Republican took a shot at Vito…..that’s also a good thing Brooklyn! (Sorry Magas) Vito’s a father and he is going to do what’s right for children and families – like he’s always been doing!

Vito knows that there are problems in our neighborhoods and a lot of people need help and aren’t getting it. People in Dyker Heights spoke out strongly tonight at the CB 10 against current leaders (Brannan, Gounardes and Abbate) for not taking action for them. Gounardes and Abbate didn’t bother going to the meeting.

Politicians have made promises to this community that they haven’t kept.

Year after year, we wait for their to take action and make a change and they push bills for lobbyists instead. We see that with the Nathan’s school (See here), the loading zones (See here) and Gounardes’ red light ticketing cameras (See here), lobbyists have played a big part in our community. Politicians aren’t telling us about the lobbyists and journalists aren’t reporting it!

Last year, I was at a virtual meeting that Vito and several other people were in charge of. Parents were upset and many wanted to speak for a long time. The other leaders running the meeting signed off. Vito stayed on the Zoom meeting until every parent was heard. There were people that were angry and Vito listened until they were done. He didn’t hush them or their harsh words. He listened to each one and was very empathetic. I never saw a meeting go on this late.

The reality is Iwen Chu, Vito’s opponent knows that Vito is a great leader. She watched Vito lead for parents in Brooklyn for years. He was persistent. The Democratic Party knows that Vito worked in that area and is well-known for being a voice in that community.

You can see Iwen at this meeting. Iwen is a translator. Irene wasn’t a passionate fighter for the community, when they needed it. I wrote about the woman who spoke out for the community, Stephanie Wong. (See here) If you haven’t seen the video, watch it!

Iwen Chu learned politics from Peter Abbate. Last year there wasn’t one photo of Iwen in Abbate’s Spring 2021 newsletter. See here. This year, there are photos throughout the newsletter. See here Are you fooled Brooklyn?

Vito LaBella called for a debate with his opponent. If politicians are unable to accept at least two debates, they should not be running for office.

After Loudlabs Shared the Six Robberies of Bay Ridge Businesses, Councilman Brannan Acknowledged They Happened Weeks Ago

It’s sad that a video journalist (Adam at Loudlabs) told Bay Ridge about the robberies in Bay Ridge, rather than Councilman Brannan or Senator Gounardes telling the community. Brannan posted the message above – no new information.

Andrew Gounardes has not shared any information about these crimes. Gounardes also will not share how he spent the money from this district.

The Brooklyn Reporter, The Brooklyn Paper and Channel 1 News did not share this information.
