Big Chief Dispensary Moved & Message For NYPD on Thanksgiving

Big Chief isn’t feeling so thankful this year. They were raided last week.

At Community Board 10’s Meeting this week, Andrew Gounardes’ staffer announced that one million dollars of product was removed from the Big Chief shop in Bay Ridge.

Senator Gounardes should have been present at the Community Board meeting, as he voted to legalize pot. The NYS senate did not give enough instructions in the bill. We have 23 locations in Bay Ridge looking to sell weed in our community.

Big Chief’s message on the window is F the NYPD. If they have the best weed on the market, why didn’t they take some and mellow out, rather than being hateful? Not one leader stood up in our community and had the building owner remove the message.

This community loves the NYPD – Happy Thanksgiving to the 68th Precinct!

The outside sign says the Dispensary has moved – knock on the door and get the address. They are probably still selling there because why would you knock on the door there? Their new Instagram accts also has the same message here. And now they call themselves BlackMark3t.

Afternoon Robbery on 92nd and Gelston Ave. in Bay Ridge

One of our neighbors shared that his apartment was robbed around 3:00 pm on 92nd and Gelston Avenue.

His wife was home in the apartment asleep – thankfully, she is alright. The thief stole her bag, wallet and keys. He selectively removed her nursing items.

They shared it so people in the neighborhood are aware and take precautions to be safe – even in a locked apartment this can happen!

New Hotel and Casino in Coney Island

Thor Equities shared on Instagram (here) that they have partnered with Saratoga Casino Holdings,  The Chickasaw Nation, and Legends.

They submitted plans for a casino and hotel in Coney Island.

Do the people in Coney Island want a casino or do they want a shopping center and regular community stores?

Politicians should be speaking up for Coney Island, but offices are changing so they aren’t concentrating on the area – Frontus lost her election, Savino is leaving office and Gounardes district no longer includes Coney Island as of January 2023.

New Flower Shop on 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge

Flower Boutique is opening at 9224 – 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge.

A flower store probably would do well there because there aren’t a lot of flower shops in the area.

People like small house plants for themselves and to give as gifts, so this is a good for the neighborhood.

This shop used to be a bodega.

Michael Novakhov is Ready to Lead in Brooklyn

I don’t know that much about Michael Novakhov. He’s the Republican who beat Steve Cymbrowitz, the incumbent for 23 years, for the Brooklyn Assembly seat.

Novakhov represents District 45 which is here:

The Brooklyn Assemblymen look like they are building a strong coalition and are ready to fight for Brooklyn!

Change is good!

Poly Prep Summer Camp 2023 – Not Happening In Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights

Well-loved Summer Camp at Poly Prep in Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights will not be happening this Summer 2023.

There is still campus construction happening at the Poly Prep Dyker Heights location, so they will not have Summer Camp in 2023.

While many parents will be disappointed because they depend on this great local camp, it’s good they let parents know early so they can plan ahead.

Poly Prep will have their five week Performing Arts Camp in Park Slope from July 3 – August 4th. $3590 More information here. This is for children entering Grades 3-9 in 2023. Bus available. Join the mailing list

Why Did the Brooklyn Paper Put Tracy Morgan In the Title But There’s No Picture or Quote From Him?

The editor of the Brooklyn Paper, Meaghan McGoldrick has a story about actor Tracy Morgan being at Marlboro Houses giving out turkeys. Well at least from the title it looked like a story about Morgan’s generosity.

Yet, the article doesn’t mention a quote from Morgan and there are no pictures of Tracy Morgan – there’s only pictures of Councilman Ari Kagan and his office.

Why is news like this in Brooklyn? It’s so weird. You would think the editor would have gone and took some photos of the event with Morgan and spoke to him.
