Coney Island residents who love their community want help! They want all the residents of the community to stand with them against the shooting.
You won’t see this on the news. People fighting for safety in their communities isn’t headline making news. But it should be!

Imagine seeing a truck coming at you and having seconds to get out of the way like that?
Thank God the NYPD were ready for a chase through Bay Ridge and Sunset Park this morning.
The NYPD arrested the male suspect at Hamilton Avenue and Columbia Street. The news said the suspect told the police he wanted to die.
Keechant Sewell, the NYPD Police Commissioner said this is not terrorist related. Commissioner Sewell asked for anyone with information to call 1-800-577-TIPS.

February 13, 2023A New High School on Ovington Ave – Bay Ridge

Picture from Video – seen here
UPDATE May 2023: This school was voted down by Community Board 10. There were many unanswered questions.
If you haven’t heard about the new high school, it’s because in early December, Councilman Brannan announced the location as a new elementary school in a Tiktok video. (Seen here)
The St. Nicholas Home located at 425 Ovington Avenue will be the location for a new high school, which will alleviate some of the overcrowding at Fort Hamilton High School. (News) The garages to the right of the building are also included in this property.
Community Board 10 mentioned the new school on one of their flyers this Winter, but then it disappeared. Someone on CB 10 must have said it had to be a high school because the area is being oversaturated with elementary schools.
It was said at a meeting that the school may be named The Joanne Seminara School.
Last January, we saw that someone has been benefitting from the property being sold NYC – read this story about The Nathan’s location. The man who owned Nathan’s property also owned 8808 – 5th Avenue.
So who got free lunch this time? Everyone reading this blog has to be wondering that!
The price paid for the building hasn’t been recorded in Acris yet – check back here next month.

February 12, 2023Brannan Didn’t Reveal Carshare Lobbyists – Brannan Let’s Our Neighborhood Go Down!

A Bay Ridge resident shared the new sign that appeared on the corners of 74th Street and 76th Streets.
Councilman Justin Brannan responded with:

Brannan failed to tell the community that the Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso was lobbied by GetAround Inc. (See here) Our community is being controlled by lobbyist projects.
In October, Carshare presented at Community Board 10. While members of CB10 noted that it was odd only one company was presenting, they did not reveal that GetAround Inc. had lobbied the Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso. (See meeting info)
*In the Facebook post where the picture was shared, the first response was by a female resident who pointed to lobbyists!

February 12, 2023Valentine Bear Gets a New Home in Bay Ridge

A giant pink bear was given the boot by one resident on 4th Avenue and 77th Street in Bay Rigde.
The bear was retrieved, given a new name (Walter) and a lot of love by a cute little boy!

Bay Ridge residents wondered why the bear was discarded by the original owner. My take: The woman received the bear from her Saturday date. The woman has a small apartment and doesn’t need a giant pink bear taking up all of her space. On Tuesday, the woman will go out with her real Valentine! Cheers that she has a good Vday!
