Six Months After the Election, Iwen Chu Finally Opened an Office

An experienced politician took longer to open an office than brand new politicians. #Embarrassing
Iwen Chu took six months since winning the election in November to open an office at 6605 Fort Hamilton Parkway, the same address she worked for Abbate for many years!
District Leaders, like Chris McCreight and Mark Hanna, pictured above like to show up for photos, but they were silent and should have helped Chu set up months ago. Everyone wants to be a district leader, but no one wants to work.
If a Republican was this lazy, McCreight would have ranted on social media about it. Instead, everyone was silent!
Andrew Gounardes and Justin Brannan did not attend the Friday afternoon office opening.
We asked Senator Chu about the two rapes in her area and Iwen didn’t respond.

Brannan and Gounardes Shredding Event in Bay Ridge Was a Disaster
Today, there was a shredding event sponsored by Justin Brannan and Andrew Gounardes.
The first shredding truck wasn’t working and there was a fire. (See here) Update: Brannan shared photos tonight.
Residents were told to come back because a second shredding truck was coming. When the Ridgites returned, the second truck wasn’t working either.
Why didn’t Justin Brannan put out a message on social media telling people that the shredding event was cancelled?
Residents did not see Councilman Brannan at his event.

Vincent shared the photo above. Cars continue to speed and “doing donuts” on Narrows ands 69th Street.
Didn’t Councilman Brannan tell everyone YEARS ago that he was working on this situation? Brannan doesn’t have solutions for problems in our area!

Who Does Gounardes Work For? Uber and Lyft Exempt from Congestion Pricing
Andrew Gounardes pushed hard for congestion pricing. We couldn’t figure out who was benefitting from this bill.
Councilman Joe Borelli pointed out that Uber and Lyft will not have to pay the congestion pricing increases that the residents in NYC will.
Why didn’t Andrew Gounardes tell Brooklyn residents that?

The Bay Ridge Library7223 Ridge Blvd will close for building maintenance on Friday, May 19, 2023. The branch will be closed for at least four weeks.
The book drop will be closed for the duration of the closure. You will not accrue any late fines, or you can return them to any other Brooklyn Public Library branch.

Brannan? Brannan? Late to 1:30 pm Meeting
Brannan? Brannan?@JustinBrannan missed role call for today's scheduled 1:30 p.m. meeting, arriving seven minutes in, but he did find the time to tweet at 1:43 p.m.

Residents in Brooklyn can see that Justin Brannan isn’t working for them, so they looked into what he was doing at the NYC Council meeting.
On Thursday, May 11th, the meeting started at 1:30 pm and Brannan was not present for roll call.
After all these years, Justin Brannan should know how long he needs to drive and park in a lot OR take Uber to the city, so that he can be on time for a meeting.
Minutes later, the Councilman shared the message above on social media.

Affordable Summer Camps in Bay Ridge – 2023
Many parents received notices that their child did not get accepted to the Summer Rising Program. Now they are looking for cheap or free Summer Programs in Bay Ridge:
1) Free FIAO Programs at St. Dominics and St. Finbar (Register here)
2) Summer Splash at 6501 – 6th Avenue. $600 for 7 weeks 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. 1st – 6th grade (leadership program for older children. Hot meals (Asian dishes). July 5th – August 18th. Info here
3) Bay Ridge Sports and Theater Camp – $230 per week. Website
On June 3rd, they will have an Open House from 12:00 -3:00 pm!

The West Point Band Playing at Ft. Hamilton on August 23rd – Want Tickets?
The West Point Band will be at the Fort Hamilton Army Base on Wednesday, August 23rd. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Concert starts at 6:30 pm.
Tickets are free to the public, so sign up now while they are available. Food trucks and refreshments will be available for purchase. Bring a blanket, chairs family and friends to enjoy this beautiful concert over looking the Verrazano Bridge.

One Hundred Units At 7120 New Utrecht Avenue Went to NYC Planning Commission
Today there was a hearing on Zoom by the NYC Planning Commission concerning 7120 New Utrecht Avenue.
Justin Brannan represents this area and he was awful about providing information to residents from the start in September 2022! (See here)
Here’s is what the current location looks like. It was a bank and then this Summer, an all girls school leased the building. (See here)
When people questioned what was going in that area on Facebook, Brannan did not reveal these plans.
David Lu, an attorney, spoke for residents in the area. He spoke about buildings being in darkness because of this building. He also mentioned that there is a rat problem in the area. The area has single family homes and this building is out of character with the neighborhood.

Jay, Brooklyn resident spoke about the other developments in the area (condos). Jay brought attention to the height of this building and how it far exceeds the one-family homes in the area. He also spoke about how Community Board 11 opposed the building.
Mike, another Brooklyn resident talked about the overcrowding of the schools in the area – from primary grades to high school. Mike also spoke about the outdated electric grid and problems with the sewer systems.

School Bus Fire in Sunset Park

Around 3:20 pm, there was a school bus on fire on 5th Avenue and 60th Street in Sunset Park. Smoke filled the area.

Around 4:00 pm, the burnt school bus was towed away.
