Update: Yorkie is Back Home with Family

A nice person found a cute, female yorkie on 74th Street between 11th and 12th Avenue in Dyker Heights. She was not wearing a collar.

The dog was nervous but extremely friendly and well behaved. She celebrated NYE with the nice person.

Thank God for kind people that would pick up a lost dog and hold on to it for the owner.

Good Riddance to 2025 And Justin Brannan!!

One of the best things about 2025 ending is that Justin Brannan is no longer the NYC Councilman for our area.

Disaster after disaster.

Eric Adams Vetoed COPA, The Terrible Bill That Justin Brannan Cosponsored

Last week, NYC Council voted in favor of a bill that Justin Brannan co-sponsored called C.O.P.A.

COPA stands for The Community Opportunity to Purchase Act.

This bill was going to gives “approved non profits” the first right of refusal to buy three family (or more )homes and empty lots.

A non profit organization in our area that has done this was previously associated with several politicians in Brooklyn.

If a property owner refuses the non profits offer, then they can offer the property to other sellers. Once a seller makes an offer, then the seller has to inform the nonprofit and the nonprofit can make another offer.

This whole process could delay a property sale for six months.

NYC Council members who represent some areas banned together to vote against C.O.P.A. because this will delay sales in their community. Source: https://shorturl.at/5QT4J

Richer property owners can avoid the whole process by being noncompliant and just have to pay a $30,000 fee. Isn’t that sweet of NYC councilmembers to build that in for the super rich developers to not have to deal with their legislation?

The government should not have the ability to tell a property owner who they can sell their property to. This has to be unconstitutional. If the bill returns in 2026. hopefully someone will challenge it in court.

This man breaks down the problems with this new law in the video below. Warning: NWS….Some foul language.

For now, Eric Adams saved NYC from Justin Brannan’s parting gift.

The new NYC Council Speaker, Julie Menin can chose to vote on this bill again and the new council could vote it in. The good news is Menin abstained from this vote, so there is a good chance it isn’t coming back under her watch!

Haley’s Comets at the Greenhouse Cafe Received Recognition for 5000 Blood Donations

For the past sixteen years, Haley’s Comets held 80 blood drives outside of The Greenhouse Cafe on 3rd Avenue and 77th Street in Bay Ridge.

Photo: John Quaglione

Today, the NY Blood Center gave them a certificate of recognition because 5,000 blood donations have been given given at this location! The NY Blood Center estimates that 15,000 people were helped from these donations.

Thousands of people were able to be helped because of Haley’s Comet’s blood drives. The Brooklyn Borough President gave this proclamation to Haley’s Comets:

The blood drives are held in memory of Haley Gray Daquara, who died in 2013 from a rare blood disorder. The blood drive is a beautiful way to honor her throughout the year.

Today, Decemeber 29th, the blood drive is happening today until 7:45 pm – if you want to do some good before the year ends.

Thank you to Haley’s Comets for holding these blood drives. When I have gone to the hospital and seen my loved ones with a bag of blood dripping into their arm, I’ve thought: “thank God for people who have donated blood.”

Thank you Bobby Daquara for taking the time to organize, advertise and incentivize people to donate blood all of these years!
