Teen Drowned at Coney Island Beach
Two boys were swimming in the “no swimming area” near the rocks at Coney Island Beach around 12:30 pm today. (Info)
People at the beach saw the two boys were in distress and ran into the water to help. They rescued the 16-year-old. (Seen here)

They were searching for the 15-year-old until 3:30 pm, but then stopped. Some of the news sites wrote that the teens were brothers.

Gounardes and Brannan Did Not Ask Biden for Help with the Migrant Crisis in NYC
It’s good that politicians are finally helping Mayor Adams with the migrant crisis in NYC. Together, fifty-four NYC Democrats signed a letter to President Biden asking for help. (Info here)
Yet, Senator Andrew Gounardes and Councilman Justin Brannan did not sign the letter.

Brannan’s Late To Help With Overdevelopment
Late. But late is better than never.
Years ago, when Justin Brannan first ran for office, I never imagined he wouldn’t help people. (Info)
It’s good that Councilman Brannan got around to writing a letter about the overdevelopment, but his support should have come a long time ago – before the people rallied. Brannan has a full staff and could have done this weeks ago.

Free Movie in Owls Head Park Friday, 7/28

The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival will show family-friendly indie short films at Owl’s Head Park on FRIDAY, JULY 28th at 8:30PM!
Owl’s Head Park is on 68th Street and Colonial Road. This event is free — just bring a chair or blanket.

No Justice for Phil Guarino – Died Last July
Last July, the body of 28-year-old Phil Guarino from Howard Beach was found outside a home on 72nd Street near Ft. Hamilton Parkway in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn.
It’s a year later and no one was arrested for Phil Guarino’s death.
Drugs were not the cause of Phil Guarino’s death. The medical examiner was not able to determine what caused Guarino’s death. Phil’s mother said a broken bone was found in her son’s neck. (Source)
The man who brought Guarino’s body to 72nd Street on a hand truck was wearing a white hoodie pulled up covering his face.
Prayers for Phil’s mother – he was her only child.

Microburst – Storm in Brooklyn – 20th Avenue

Update: The News said the winds in Brooklyn were 70 MPH (Source)
While most people in Brooklyn saw a heavy rain storm, Bay Ridge Avenue between 19th and 20th Avenues had high winds, like a tornado. 73rd Street between 19th and 20th also was hit bad. The news is referring to this as microbursts.

The FDNY were cutting the trees to get them off the street.
Councilman Ari Kagan immediately shared that there were no injuries or evaculations needed.
I was notified by @nycoem, @NYCCouncil & @NYCParks about multiple trees & wires down at 1949 Bay Ridge Parkway c/s 20 Avenue. @FDNY is on the scene at the above location cleaning up multiple trees & down wires. No injuries reported & no evacuations needed. TY to first responders!

Staten Island Residents Raided for Armed Robberies in Bensonhurst & Staten Island
Councilman Ari Kagan announced that Staten Island residents were arrested for armed robberies in Bensonhurt and Staten Island.
PIX 11 stated that two men were arrested for at least five robberies between January 20th and July 12th in Brooklyn, Staten Island and New Jersey. (Source) The feds are involved because the crimes happened in two states.
This morning at 8:00 am, residents heard the police announced a man’s name and that they had a warrant for his arrest. (News and photos)
The robbery in Brooklyn happened on July 12th and targeted an owner of an ice cream store in Brooklyn. “They stole $6,700 in cash from the store and exchanged the cash for larger bills at a TD Bank branch in Brooklyn, according to court documents.” (Source)
