Senator Iwen Chu’s Window Was Broken

Update: A man was arrested by the NYPD.

The windows to Senator Iwen Chu’s office at 6605 Fort Hamilton Parkway were broken. If you witnessed this, call the NYPD or call the tip line at 800-577-TIPS.

The NYPD is outside now trying to protect the office.

Senator Chu has only had this office a short time, as it took her several months to open an office. Yes, this is the same office as her former boss, Peter Abbate.

Senator Chu went to social media to share about this crime. She wrote that a man threw bricks through the window. Her staff was not hurt.

No one should have to worry about crime while living or working in their community. Iwen Chu has been silent about the crimes happening to people in her district.

Chris McCreight Blocks Comments As He Tries to Collect Money

As a District Leader, Chris McCreight’s only job was to help qualified Democrats to run for office in the 46th District.

McCreight has failed to do this job!

In January, Anthony Batista Perez filed to run against Justin Brannan. Anthony Batista Perez worked in Assemblywoman Frontus’ office and lives in Coney Island. As a district leader, Chris McCreight should have welcome Batista Perez.

When I wrote about it on social media, Mark Hanna, the 64th District said Batista-Perez didn’t write that he was a candidate for NYC Council in his Twitter or Instagram profile, so he wasn’t considered a candidate. (See here) Yet, Anthony Battista Perez had filed to run and let Justin Brannan know that he was running.

Chris McCreight and the other district leaders including Tori Burhans Kelly and Joe Bove didn’t step in to welcome Batista Perez.

Last month, we saw Chris McCreight, Tori Burhans Kelly, Joe Bove, Andrew Gounardes, Justin Brannan and the Bay Ridge Democrat pushing Wai Yee Chan, a politician from Queens, onto the new Asian District in Brooklyn.

Wai Yee Chan was trounced by Susan because residents weren’t interested in Chris McCreight’s friend from Queens!

Wai Yee Chan won in the areas that are green, while Susan Zhuang won the majority in gold.

McCreight actually hurt Brooklyn by presenting his friend, instead of promoting residents that lived in this area. Why is McCreight a district leader, if he isn’t helping Democrats in Brooklyn?

Last May, Democrats in our area sued a woman named Sabrina who was running as a District Leader in Bay Ridge when she did not live here. A district leader doesn’t have a salary. A City Council representative makes a good salary. We should have seen other district leaders speak out against the Queens politician.

Yesterday, McCreight was on Twitter asking for money for his campaign.

Cowardly, McCreight turned off comments on his tweet because he didn’t want people in the neighborhood to comment on him being silent, as lobbyists have run projects in Bay Ridge! (See here)

Years ago, Chris McCreight spoke out on social media about politicians being influenced by lobbyists. Now he no longer does.

Rose Spa on 3rd Avenue Closed for Prostitution

Councilman Justin Brannan announced that Rose Spa at 7620 3rd Avenue was closed due to prostitution and suspected human trafficking.

Why did it take so long to close this down? Rose Spa was known about last Fall. Residents wrote to Brannan about it in January here.

In 2021, this placed was closed a lot more rapidly. (See here

Rally Against a 9 Story Building on 63rd St. 7/19

On Wednesday, July 19th at 7:00 pm, Brooklynites are meeting on 63rd Street near 12th Avenue to rally against a nine-story building at that was planned for this 1222 – 63rd Street.

This property is part of the former Angel Guardian Home site.

Won’t a nine-story building tower over the main building, which was landmarked?

The residents were able to get a partial stop work order on the site (See here), but they are hoping to get this development scaled down.

The residents wrote: PLEASE HELP AND STAND WITH US!!!!!

This Saturday, July 15th check out Samuel Sjaastad’s artwork: The Bars of Bay Ridge at Wonder Room Coffee 7904 – 3rd Avenue from 6 – 11 pm.

What a perfect place for an art show!

Sam is also selling some other cool things he designed, like this Bay Ridge jersey.

This time Sam will be featuring 13 bars in the art show. My favorites were of course: The Wicked Monk and JJ Bubbles.

This event is free – so stop in and see the beautiful work of a local artist!

These are the next bars that Sam will be doing:

RIP Ralph Perfetto – Actor & Bay Ridge Activist

So sad to hear that Ralph Perfetto died.

Next Wednesday would have been Ralph’s 89th birthday.

Ralph Perfetto is known for three things: Loving his family, standing up in his community and living his dream of being an actor!

The first time I met Ralph Perfetto, he told me some funny stories and talked about his family. After I went home, I realized I knew his family (and yes, they are as wonderful as he said they were). Each time I ran into him, he always had some interesting stories to share because he knew people all over Brooklyn!

Perfetto was involved in politics in Bay Ridge for many years. He would always speak up for what was right. Coney Island wrote about Perfetto’s contributions in Brooklyn here. Perfetto even continued to run for Democrat District Leader last year.

Finally, Ralph Perfetto LIVED! He always wanted to be an actor, so he became one! From 2008 to 2023, Ralph Perfetto was in many shows and movies. (See list here and here) Perfetto was 85-years-old when he played a monsignor in the movie, The Irishman, staring Robert DiNiro and Joe Pesci. The movie was produced by Martin Scorsese’s and Ralph Perfetto was fantastic in it!

In an interview, Ralph said this:

Most people aren’t so lucky to live their childhood dreams, but Ralph did!

The wake is on Sunday, July 16th from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Scarpaci Funeral Home at 1401 86th Street.

The mass is on Monday, July 17th at 10:45 am at Saint Andrew’s Church 6713 Ridge Blvd.

Prayers for Ralph’s family. RIP Ralph.

Why Did Andrew Gounardes Have a Second Fundraiser When He Doesn’t Have an Election Until 2024?

Andrew Gounardes was seen driving up to the fundraiser in a black SUV at Threes Brewing Brewery on Douglass Street in Gowanas.

Does Gounardes drive to work instead of taking the train?! Transalt wouldn’t like that.

Gounardes collected a lot of money during the last election and still continues to collect money from people. He does not have an election until 2024.
