Susan Zhuang Voted Against The Override – She’s For The Community
I’m impressed that the new Council representative for Dyker Heights, Susan Zhuang didn’t vote with the Democrats. She voted for the police and for safety.

Councilman Brannan Voted Yes to the “How Many Stops Act” Today

Today, NYC Council voted to override Mayor Adams’ veto of their bill, 586-A “The How Many Stops Act.”
It’s clear there is a problem with some officers in the NYPD:
NYC Council’s plan to have the NYPD log encounters with the public could have been used with police officers who had negative interactions with the public. They would change their ways so they wouldn’t be stuck doing paperwork. There is a problem in the NYPD and this app could have been a way to fix the problem
The 68th Precinct shared on X (formerly Twitter) that this bill will put pressure on an already strained department.

The reality is that good, hard-working police officers will have to do paperwork all day long to log who they spoke with. This act was made by people who don’t know how to manage other people and want to micromanage the police department.

It was no surprise that Justin Brannan voted to override the Mayor.
Five days before Christmas, Justin Brannan voted for this bill. Brannan did not share this vote with the community in a newsletter or on social media. You can see that vote here
Brannan’s on the Committee of Public Safety….(SMH) and voted for it in committee too.
On January 22nd, Councilman Brannan’s picture was on the cover of the NY Post. It said the Mayor had to get two NYC Councilmembers to change their votes. (The Mayor was not at Brannan’s inauguration party this weekend.)
Here’s the thing: Justin Brannan’s vote was not needed for this to pass. The Democrats had plenty of votes for this to pass without Brannan:
Councilman Brannan could have voted to support the police, but he wanted to be part of “that Council vote that stuck it to the police”.
While several NYC Councilmembers took a ride with the police, Justin Brannan and most of them didn’t bother. (Info) The “know-it-all” councilmembers didn’t think they could learn anything by going out with the police.

Prediction: There will be a lot less interaction from the police, especially in neighborhoods which really need it. No one wants to do extra “paperwork” on an app or be micromanaged.

Why Hasn’t Councilman Brannan Met With The Residents in The Towers To Share Information About the Homeless Shelter on 4th Avenue?
I spoke with a resident who lives in The Towers and he said they were blindsided by the homeless shelter. After all this time, Councilman Justin Brannan has not gone to speak with them or sent them any information about the homeless shelter that is proposed for 4th Avenue, near their buildings.
At a recent Board meeting at The Towers, many more residents showed up to the meeting then usual. The primary topic of was the proposed homeless shelter. The Board has been actively trying to get clear statements from Councilman Brannan and the Department of Buildings about this shelter, but have not received any clear answers.
Many residents living in The Towers tried reaching out to Councilman Justin Brannen, but have not received a response. Some said their numbers were blocked. Why hasn’t Brannan scheduled a meeting with them?
In November, Community Board 10 said one sentence about the homeless shelter. (Info) Josephine said she was getting information that week, but she didn’t share anything more with the community.
Residents in Bay Ridge are worried about crime, vandalism, drugs and a decrease in general safety due to the homeless shelter. A protest will take place on Wednesday, January 31st at 12:00 pm outside of Councilman Brannan’s office,

2/3/24 – Someone wrote: “She is with her family now. I heard this from a reliable friend of the family. Thoughts & prayers to her & her family.” Thank God for good news!
1/30/24 – Carmen is still missing. Her neighbors posted the photo and description below because they are worried.
Police are searching for a missing white, 53-year-old woman.
Carmen Medina is described as 5’4″ tall, 120 lbs. and she has long blonde hair. (Info)
Carmen was last seen January 28th at 9:00 a.m. in a pink sweatshirt and pink sweatpants.
Prayers for her fast return.

The Merchants of Third Avenue is having a #HeartsonThird promotion in February! For a $3 donation, shoppers and supporters will be invited to color in a template to be hung in the windows of their favorite businesses on the avenue to spread love and this beautification project!
