November 19, 2023Fireworks Heard in Bay Ridge From Liberty Island

Why are there so many fireworks tonight in Bay Ridge? It’s around 10:40 pm and everyone is hearing the booming of fireworks, but it sounds different than it usually does.
People all over Brooklyn heard the fireworks. (See here)
Those living on Shore Road or standing near the 69th Street Pier or Shore Road bike path saw a huge fireworks show!
** Politicians should have let the community know this was going to happen – they have the schedule! ** It’s like we don’t have any leaders here.
After the fireworks went off for 10+ minutes, a Bay Ridge resident shared the 311 announcement that the fireworks were for a private event at Liberty Island. (Seen here)

Some people say he is a block cat for 70th Street.
Please contact the 68 Precinct on 65th Street and spring Tuxedo so he isn’t sent to the shelter. Call 718-439-4211.
Thank you to the police officers who are animal lovers and take good care of the pets that are brought in.

November 19, 2023Andrew Gounardes Doesn’t Want to Tell The Community About a Deceased Resident, But He Wants to Celebrate World Day of Remembrance

This morning Senator Andrew Gounardes tweeted about World Day of Remembrance.
Yet in July, when a woman was hit and killed by a livery driver on 4th Avenue and Senator Street, Andrew Gounardes never mentioned her name. (See info here)
Both Gounardes and Brannan say they are in contact with the NYPD. So why didn’t they share the information with the community?
The nameless 61-year-old woman remained nameless when the Bay Ridge environmental group invited Transalt and Families for Safer Streets for a walk through Bay Ridge. When they got to Senator Street, they said a woman was killed her. She’s not just a woman – she’s someone’s family member who had a life before the livery driver hit her.
Both Transalt and Families for Safer streets have no idea that Gounrdes does not speak out in the community. When he shared the World Remembrance Day it is because Families for Safer Streets celebrates that day.
Celebrating World Day of Remembrance is pointless when Senator Gounardes didn’t take the time to acknowledge the loss of this resident in Bay Ridge.

November 18, 2023Palestinian Demonstration in Bay Ridge on 11/18

Photo: Tom Hilton
This afternoon, Palestinians and non-Palestinians gathered on 4th Avenue and 86th Street in Bay Ridge calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza.

Photo: Tom Hilton
The newspapers aren’t covering what’s happening in the Gaza well.

Photo: Tom Hilton
Palestinian protests in NY are not being covered well either, so it’s nice that Bay Ridge photographer took the time to cover this.

Photo: Tom Hilton
While this demonstration wasn’t as large as the last one, there are a lot more non-Palestinian people at the protest with signs because they understand what is happening.
WOW this is sending a clear message:

Photo: Tom Hilton
This protest and the one in Sunset park this evening were peaceful protests calling for a ceasefire.

The news doesn’t even relay how many people have been killed.

Maybe In Our Lifetime needs to partner with local photographers like Tom Hilton so people see the truth about their demonstrations and protests for The Gaza.

November 18, 2023RIP Annemarie Weisner – Bay Ridge

Annemarie Weisner was the 72-year-old grandmother, who was killed on Marine Avenue in Bay Ridge by a hit-and-run driver on Thursday evening.

Annemarie’s family shared these pictures of a radiant woman, who loved her life.

Hopefully, the NYPD will be able to track down the killed to give them some justice. In this video, Annemarie’s best friend speaks – it’s very sad:
The reporter in the video noted that this street did not have any traffic lights, speed bumps or stop signs.

Annemarie was a musician and loved by her friends, neighbors and family. We hope that the person responsible will be arrested soon.
RIP Annemarie. Prayers for her friends and the Weisner Family.
