Apply to Be On Community Board 10

The application to become a Community Board 10 Member is here. CB 10 could use some outspoken people with fresh ideas.

Six months ago, a CB 10 committee said No to the High School on Ovington Avenue – the vote was almost almost unanimous because School Construction Authority did not answer even simple questions. (Info)

Councilman Brannan told a private Facebook group, he proceeded forward with the high school. (Info) It looked like the purchase was made in the Winter when Brannan released a silly Tik Tok video (which has since been deleted)

More than six months after CB 10 said no, not one person has challenged Brannan or seems to care.

When Brannan appeared at a CB 10 meeting, even the head of CB 10 didn’t ask him about it.

Will Zoning Change in Bay Ridge? Meeting 11/29

You haven’t heard about this meeting? Me either!

Tonight at Community Board 10’s meeting it was announced that there will be a change to the existing zoning. Businesses can be added to residential streets. (Information here)

Update: On 11/21/23, Community Board 10 shared this information:

SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS NOT JUST A FACEBOOK OR INSTAGRAM POST – THIS INFORMATION SHOULD HAVE BEEN MAILED TO EVERY HOME – it doesn’t matter WHO sends that mailing, but this is something EVERYONE in the community should be told about.

Do the people who are pushing The City of Yes realize there are empty retail stores all over the Avenues in our community and many other communities? This plan seems like it was made before the pandemic and is now outdated!

There is a meeting at St. Anselm on Wednesday, November 29th at 7:00 pm.

This information should have been shared by Councilman Justin Brannan. It’s a huge topic and will change Bay Ridge!

Homeless Shelter Coming to Bay Ridge – 4th Ave.

Community Board 10 announced that a homeless shelter will be constructed at 6530 – 4th Avenue. It was announced in one sentence – no additional information was given.

Both Senator Andrew Gounardes and Councilman Justin Brannan were informed by NYC in November 2023 that this was a shelter for 150 men. The politicians did not share that information with the community.

Corcoran Real Estate’s photo – source

The building on this property is just one floor – it was a kitchen design showroom. The first picture here shows a seven-story building.

You can hear Josephine say it in the video at 56:39 or you can see it at this link.

This is what Josephine said:

00:56:39 Community board 10 was notified

00:56:41 by the Department of Social Services

00:56:43 that a homeless shelter will be

00:56:45 constructed at

00:56:47 6530 – 4th Avenue. Um we were just notified by

00:56:51 Department of Social Services and we’ll

00:56:52 be reaching out to the agent agency and

00:56:55 the service provider um at an upcoming

00:56:57 committee meeting to learn more

00:56:59 information about that location.

Not one politician shared this information!

A Bay Ridge resident asked about the homeless shelter on Facebook and the moderator of the Facebook group wrote this:

It has not been announced that the homeless shelter will be for veteran’s housing and it’s not published anywhere either, so that man must have a connection to a politician’s office. The politicians in Bay Ridge have withheld information from residents.

While that information may have been new to Josephine at CB 10, Justin Brannan failed to share the information with the community, just like he failed to share the information about the hotel on 86th Street and he was mad that I shared public information here.

Brad Lander shared this map a few days ago:

Easy One: Open More Pickleball Courts-Bay Ridge

For the past few months, pickleball enthusiasts have been at the Community Board 10 meeting requesting that some of the tennis courts at Leif Ericson Park be changed to Pickleball Courts because many people are consistently waiting for a free pickleball court.

Tonight, a tennis enthusiast showed up to Community Board 10 and they requested that the tennis courts not be converted because people love them and use them. She showed she had signatures from almost 300 players.

The Pickleball lovers said there were thousands of pickleball players in the area and they just need some room to play. Now they have a petition – see here.

The pickleball players bring their own tape to mark the court (and maybe net). So a schoolyard would be good for them. If a public school yard can’t be used, maybe a Catholic school could rent out their indoor or outdoor space to the city so people can have more pickleball courts.

Parents of Teens/College Students – Free Narcan Kit Available at CB 10’s Office

If you are the parent of a teen or college student, you may be interested in getting a Narcan kit from Community District 20’s office.

If one of your child’s friends has an opioid overdose, naloxone would block the effects of the opioid.  It only works on opioids, such as heroin, prescription painkillers and fentanyl.

It’s administered through the nose and might be good to have at your home if it is a gathering place.

This was said at the Community Board 10 Meeting (see here) at 1:00:26

01:00:26 Many of you participated at an
01:00:28 Narcan training and I just want to let you
01:00:30 know we did receive some more kits

Other places you can get free Narcan kits – see here

Is The Billiards Lot Becoming a Grocery Store?

During the Community Board 10 Meeting tonight, a resident near Ovington Avenue said that a grocery store was coming to that area and she was concerned about the traffic from the new grocery story and the new high school being planned down the block.

The billiards building was removed.

This was what was said at CB 10 Meeting on Monday Night starting at 23:06 (See video)

00:23:06 I’m not in support of
00:23:08 the supermarket that is also going to
00:23:10 take place on the corner of Ovington and
00:23:13 Fifth Avenue on Ovington we have an
00:23:15 immense amount of traffic if the BQE
00:23:18 gets backed up we hear about it.
00:23:21 This compromises our quality of
00:23:24 life because you’re hearing beeping
00:23:26 horns throughout the evening and
00:23:28 throughout the day

Is the old Hall of Fame Billiards turning into a grocery store? LOOK:

00:24:20 Are you referring to the the the
00:24:23 building where the Billiards used to be?
00:24:26 Okay that that location I wasn’t aware
00:24:27 There was a couple of different
00:24:29 proposals for that. It’s had some
00:24:31 construction issues along the way um but
00:24:34 we will definitely um take a look at
00:24:38 that no we no where aware we heard a lot

Department of Buildings had all of these problems at that location:

Five-Year-Old Boy Hit By Vehicle -Bay Ridge Pkwy

A parent shared this photo.

A five year old child was hit by a vehicle this morning at Bay Ridge Parkway and 4th Avenue. (Info)

The child was walking to school with his mother when they were hit. Fortunately, they both were able to get up and walk to the ambulance.

This corner is curved or angled and that may be the problem.

There is no mention of this on any politician’s social media accounts. Also no mention of this at the Community Board 10 Meeting that was held tonight.
