Green FastTrack Rule Change ·Gift For Developers

Community Board 10 held a meeting on Zoom on January 31st.

The meeting was about the “Green FastTrack Rule Change.”

This isn’t the City of Yes, this is totally different!

The City is proposing removing some requirements for building homes in NYC. These changes will allow developers to build housing faster and with less expense and burdens.

NYC City analyzed a thousand environmental reviews over the last ten years and they consistently found that modest housing projects had no negative impacts on the environment.

This is a gift for developers. If it goes through, in places there are problems, developers won’t be held responsible.

WOW $40,000 to the Brooklyn Alliance?

I saw Councilman Brannan gave $40,000 to the Brooklyn Alliance Inc.

What’s the Brooklyn Alliance? The Brooklyn Alliance appears to be a not-for-profit for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. See info (here)

That’s odd! Why is money set aside for Bay Ridge given to the Brooklyn Chamber?

I could understand if the Brooklyn Chamber was assisting businesses in Bay Ridge, but strangely only TWO Bay Ridge businesses are listed in their directory for Brooklyn. (See here)

The Brooklyn Chamber even charges people to have a document notarized. (See here)

That’s $40,000 that our community doesn’t have – anyone can apply for that money, not just business owners in Bay Ridge.

I could see if the Chamber was helping bring businesses to Bay Ridge, but it’s not doing that! We have empty stores all over the community! Even when new businesses open, The Brooklyn Chamber doesn’t announce or promote them!

I looked to see what other council members gave to this not-for-profit. #SomethingIsntRight here.

When the Brooklyn Chamber announced the Brooklyn Made Store at Industry City, they said they received a grant.

It looks like our tax dollars funded a grant to pay the rent at a shop in Industry City so some people could sell the items! THAT’S NOT HOW BUSINESS WORKS!

There is a Chamber of Commerce for each borough. None of the other boroughs have this expense.

Dermatology Specialists – 86th St. in Bay Ridge

The Dermatology Specialists opened at 467 – 86th Street. Their storefront looks fantastic – so fresh and new!

It’s a walk-in dermatologist. You can make an appointment on their website if you want to. (Here)

This doctor’s office is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

It says they take all insurance. So this might be good if you need a quick appointment with a dermatologist!

This used to be where Sally’s Beauty was located.

Scammers Trying to Steal Your Necklaces In Dyker Heights, Brooklyn

Brooklyn, you know the drill….Watch out for the SUV with the couple who asks for directions to the hospital; or wants to give you jewelry.

In August, the NYPD shared these photos.

The scammer are alive and well this week in Dyker Heights because they know nice people live there!

Good neighbors are sharing the stories to make people aware:

a) Two neighbors were approached separately in the vicinity of 74th and 14th Avenue over the weekend by a couple in a white SUV. They asked for directions to a local hospital, tried to befriend them and then attempted to give them a necklace. Thank God both of my neighbors were wise enough to get away from them!

b) This just happened to my neighbor about a week ago on 11th Avenue near 77th Street. A white SUV, a couple in the car, woman is either pregnant or saying she is. They were asking about hospitals in the area, my neighbor approached the car, they started trying to sell him bracelets while talking. They started putting the bracelets on his wrist (while trying to get his watch off), he realized what was happening & backed up. The SUV took off & he fell to the ground.

c) I was taking a walk on 76th Street near 10th Avenue when an SUV pulled up with men inside. The driver said he needed directions and told me to come close to the vehicle. When I asked him why, the vehicle drove away. The incident happened in October, but I kept it to myself until now.
