March 23, 2024Senator Gounardes Wants To Build Affordable Housing on Church Properties

Senator Andrew Gounardes was elected into office years ago because he claimed he was going to help Bay Ridge home owners.
Years ago, Gounardes promised home owners he would fight for fair property taxes. He also said he would fight against illegal basements. Andrew Gounardes has never rallied or protested in Albany for Bay Ridge home owners.
This year, Gounardes is pushing building affordable housing on religious property. While that may be alright in some areas, it could be awful for people whose property in near a church or religious owned property. (See the bill here)
The bill is very vague and fails to give any limits or distance from surrounding properties.
Gounardes and his wife recently purchased a home in Bay Ridge, but there home is not near any churches. He would never push a bill which would adversely affect his home, but yours -> too bad.
Gounardes is the cheerleader of the Democratic Party. If someone is pushing a bill, like the cannabis bill, Gounardes jumps on. He doesn’t seem to read the whole bill or understand the implications, so we have almost 30 illegal cannabis shops in Bay Ridge. Even though they are operating illegally, Gounardes has not take action to close these shops.

March 22, 20243rd Avenue Beautification Day – April 27, 2024

The Merchants of 3rd Avenue are having a beautification day on April 27, 2024 and they want everyone to participate.
They also want people to sponsor a tree for $500. Let’s hope that they aren’t purchasing the trees from NYC. Home Depot delivers trees for free and they are lot lower than $500 each. Local gardening spots would also be able to provide a lower cost.

March 20, 2024RIP Donetta – She Made So Many People Happy

When I opened Facebook, I saw all the messages that Donetta Riley had died.

If you attended a children’s party in Bay Ridge, you probably met the one and only ~ Donetta Riley.

Donetta was the woman singing and making the magic happen at birthday parties! She got everyone involved and made everyone laugh. While Donetta lived in Washington Heights, many people thought she lived in Bay Ridge because she was at so many parties here!

Our four-year-old goddaughter stood perfectly still as Donetta painted a butterfly on her face. As she drew, Donetta spoke to her in the sweetest voice. When Donetta applied glitter, all the little girls were amazed and couldn’t wait to be next.
The party wouldn’t be complete without Donetta twisting balloons into hats, musical instruments and cute animal. At every party, she had something new to show the kids (but the adults were just as captivated).

Donetta loved art and music and she shared that with everyone she met. She taught art at several places including the Hudson Cliffs School. During the Pandemic, she brought her magic to Zoom:

Donetta didn’t lose her fight to cancer – she fought and lived after doctors said she would die.
She’s in Heaven with God and without pain now. I imagine by the weekend, she will be twisting up some magic up there!

Donetta will be missed by everyone who was blessed to know her.
She was 52 years old and she brought so much joy to so many people.
Prayers for Roy, her family and friends who will be missing her bright light.

March 20, 2024Cloudy Smoke Convenience Didn’t Have a Good Day in Bay Ridge – NYPD

Picture from Nadine’s video (here)
Cloudy Smoke Convenience on 3rd Avenue and 75th Street doesn’t look like it had a good day.
Nadine shared a video to give everyone the heads up (here). The store had items confiscated.
This shop has been operating for years. And for years NYS has not received the taxes we were told these cannabis shops would bring.

Picture from Nadine’s video (here)
No politician mentioned this occurrence.
