Long Bright River is Filming in Bay Ridge on 4/4 and 4/5. Tonight They Are Taking Parking Spaces.

Caroline shared this photo on Facebook

On Thursday, April 4, 2024 and Friday, April 5th, they are filming “Long Bright River” in Bay Ridge on Gelston Avenue between 86th Street and 88th Street.

Community Board 10 shared this information:

Here’s what’s closed:
·  86 STREET between GATLING PLACE and 5 AVENUE Street Side: South Street Control: Full Block
·  GELSTON AVENUE between 86 ST and 88 ST Street Side: East Street Control: Full Block
·  FORT HAMILTON PARKWAY between 86 ST and 92 ST Street Side: East Street Control: Full Block

The filming permit allows them to snag some parking spots 24-hours before. Some Rigites drove around for over an hour looking for a parking spot on a rainy/windy night.

People would be less mad if they closed off the street tomorrow.

On Thursday morning, April 4th, I passed this area – it was blocks of empty spaces – how awful!

Brannan Was on Errol Louis’ Show – Errol Asked About Smoke Shops!

Councilman Brannan was on television with Pat Kiernan earlier today. He talked about money being available for NYC. Brannan shared that video here.

Councilman Brannan was also on Errol Louis’ show in the evening. Brannan didn’t share or mention that video. (See it here)

They talked about the budget and then Errol asked Brannan about the illegal smoke shops.

Errol said that NYC has all it needs to close illegal smoke shops. Councilman Brannan said he didn’t know.

Brannan pointed to the state legislatures and the NYPD saying they don’t have the penal code to shut down these shops.

Brannan said there were 2,000 illegal shops in NYC now.

Why hasn’t NYC moved on legislation to close the illegal shops? A Smoke Shop in Bay Ridge was robbed tonight. (Info)

Smoke Shop in Bay Ridge Robbed Again

Many police vehicles police were outside of the smoke shop at 8711- 5th Avenue around 5:45 pm tonight. (See video)

John shared photos of 5th Avenue being closed at 86th Street. (See here)

The thieves left before the police arrived, but were caught on camera.

These cash only businesses are a problem unless they have strong security.

Senator Andrew Gounardes voted in favor of legalizing cannabis, but didn’t understand how to regulate the cash only shops.

Gounardes still doesn’t understand how he made the neighborhood less safe. This is taxing on the NYPD to respond to the repeat burglaries.

Why do our police officers have to answer these calls? The shops should report it to their insurance company.
