May 28, 2026RIP – 37-Year-Old Man Killed By Co-worker Driving Van

Early this week, a man backed up his vehicle and killed a 37-year-old man. Then he drove forward and hit a parked Toyota Camry. Then he drove away. News:

The 37-year-old victim was brought to the hospital and died.

There were eyewitnesses and the police were able to contact the man and have him to return to the scene. The man was arrested around 9:00 pm.

May 28, 2026Jamaica Bay Riding Academy is Closing in June. What’s Happening to the Horses That Worked There?

Jamaica Bay Riding Academy at 7000 Shore Parkway is shutting down in June after being open for 54 years. The horses that worked there gave a lot of rides to Brooklynites.

Children and adults learned to ride at Jamaica Bay.
Some of the horses have been purchased. but many of the older horses have not been purchased by a new owner.
Let’s hope that these horses are well taken care of before this place closes in June.

Mayor Mamdani said that he will transfer buildings from bad owners to non-profits. See Mamdani’s speech here:

In a Gothamist article it said that there were three ways thee socialists could do this:
a) NYC Council is considering a measure that would allow the city to sell buildings with hefty unpaid property taxes or fines
b) The Community Opportunity to Purchase Act, which could allow nonprofits the first shot at buying apartment buildings before they hit the open market.
c) Councilmember Sandy Nurse has a bill that would apply to buildings with more than three violations per unit. Info here:
