Hamas Flag Carried During Nakba in Bay Ridge

The green Hamas flag was waved in Bay Ridge during the Nakba protest yesterday on 5th Avenue.

This is not the same as the red, black, white and green flag Palestine Liberation Organization flag we have seen carried in Bay Ridge for years.

Katie Smith’s video was shared in this tweet.

This man covered his entire head with a scarf and the Hamas flag, except for his eyes. Why?

The green flag again:

Seen in video here

I have been writing about Nabka since 2018 (see here) and we have not seen that flag in Bay Ridge during previous years.

While we support people’s freedom to protest, we don’t want to see a terrorist group’s flag in our community.

Channel 1 News said that thirty-four people were taken into police custody during yesterday’s protest. ABC News said 40 were arrested. (See here)

The tone of this Nakba protest was different, it was like the angry march that happened in Bay Ridge in October 2023. (See here)

Some men threw mangos at the police. (See video)

The Within Our Lifetime organization tweeted about the police being “neutralizedbecause some jerks put bike locks on the police barricades.

Nerdeen Kiswani, the head of Within Our Lifetime usually has strong chants to free Palestine, but today she was chanting about the police.

This year, some chanted about the NYPD: “Muslim cops, what do you say? How many kids did you beat today?” (See the video)

Kiwani’s chant: “They want to cram us on a sidewalk. On a hot day Creating unsafe conditions. Making people prone to fainting. And passing out. And having to scream super loud Instead of using a mic. So they can keep us out of the stree.t Just for them to block the street themselves”

During previous Nakba protests in Bay Ridge, the passionate chants were about freeing Palestine.

A protester was taken into custody for using sound amplification – not for calling the NYPD piggies, as someone claimed. (Source)

Not one Bay Ridge politician told the community that Nakba was happening on Saturday, so that residents could avoid the area!

No politicians attended the event, yet two tweeted and actecd like nothing was different this year, despite problems at a protest in Bay Ridge in October 2023 – see video :

A day later, Senator Gounardes tweeted.

What Gounardes didn’t do was look into what really happened and speak with the NYPD about situations that occurred.

Sometimes the photos and videos don’t show what happened a minute before or what the police saw. Like this video that looks like this:

We need new politicians, who don’t think representation is a tweet after an event “just to say something.”

Baby Lantern Fly Season

It’s baby Lantern fly season. They look like small spiders now.

In an empty spray bottle, mix half vinegar and half Dawn dish soap. Spray at Lantern flies.

Vinegar can kill grass and other plants, so if they are near something you like, mix Dawn dish soap with water and spray.

Nakba Protest in Bay Ridge – May 18, 2024

At 2:00 pm today, several hundred Palestinians met in Bay Ridge for Nakba 76. (See live video here)

Video by Talia Janesee video

Palestinians of all ages were present to peacefully protest.

The people didn’t like being in one area, so Nerdeen Kiswani, the head of From Within Our Lifetime chanted:

Video by Etana Hetch (See video)

In 1948, around 700,000 Palestinians were cleansed from the area they knew as Palestine, which is now Israel. They call it the “Nakba,” which means the catastrophe.

Video by Anthony Verias – see here

The signs say 76th Nakba because it is seventy-six years after 1948.

Video by Katie Smith – see here

Before the march, some people put bike locks on the police barricades. This makes people less sympathetic to their cause because the police are doing their job.

There were a lot of police officers on bicycle this year. (See video)

Also different this year, journalist, Katie Smith showed that the police were on the rooftops (See video) and fire escapes (see video) Last year, protesters were on some fire escapes and rooftops.

Around 5:00 pm, it was raining and the crowd, most entirely made up of teens and people in their 20’s were angry.

There was a huge police presence – it wasn’t just the 68th Precinct officers. Some men threw mangos at the police. (See video) Police in riot gear showed up. In October, when there was a Palestinian protest, protesters were arrested, so the police were prepared. (See here)

The crowd divided up and marched down residential streets chanting. Helicopters and the police stayed with them.

Some people were arrested for lighting flares. (See here) Others were arrested for not listening when the police asked them to get out of the street and go to the sidewalk.

On Thursday morning, a nine-year-old girl was touched over her clothing by a man on 59th Street and 8th Avenue (the police shared 9th Avenue) in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Then the man ran away. (See news here and here)

The police have shared the photos above.

Why haven’t politicians from this area shared the man’s photo so parents are aware?
