Don’t Use the Mailbox on 96th Street and Marine

A neighbor shared that the Mailbox on 96th Street and Marine Avenue had garbage stuffed in it and gum was put inside to catch people’s envelopes with checks.

Thieves like to steal the checks, whitewash them and empty people’s checking accounts.

Like other mailboxes in the area, it will probably be removed. (Info here)

Why Didn’t Senator Gounardes Take Action for Bay Ridge After a Woman Died on 7th Ave.?

Today, Senator Andrew Gounardes shared that he was working on street safety in Downtown Brooklyn.

Why did Senator Gounardes take action in Downtown Brooklyn after a person died, but failed to do anything in Bay Ridge, when Aihong Qu died on 7th Avenue in June? (See here)

Neither Senator Gounardes or Councilman Brannan mentioned Aihong’s name. Years ago, the pols would have a candle ceremony. Now if they don’t say her name, people won’t know and they don’t have to do anything.

Senator Gounardes should have had the street inspected, so that another accident like this does not occur.

In July, I asked Senator Gounardes and some Bay Ridge groups on social media, why no action was taken? Since I am not a lobbyist, the Senator did not answer.

Bridgeview Diner Sold for 11 Million Dollars

The Internet was buzzing about Bridgeview Dinner at 9011 – 3rd Avenue being sold for eleven million dollars. (Source)(Deed info: here – choose View Document at the bottom center)

The former owner, Dimitrios Kalondis died in 2019. Kaloidis owned the Floridian Diner on Flatbush Avenue, the Arch Diner on Ralph Avenue in Canarsie and the Georgia Diner in Queens.

In December 2023, there were articles about his estate paying $1.8 million in penalties and interest. (See here and here)

While the deal for the Bridgeview Diner closed on July 29, 2022, it was not recorded until August 5, 2024. The media started writing stories about the sale yesterday.

A limited liability company named, Yellowhook Realty is the property owner now. Bay Ridge used to be known as Yellowhook (before it was Bay Ridge) so that person’s roots are here with this community.

Maybe the delay in posting the deed was caused by taxes or closing the former owner’s estate.

The Bridgeview Diner has been in business in Bay Ridge for 45 years.

Wheels, Muffler and Catalytic Converter Stolen – 91st Street and Ridge Blvd.

Imagine having to walk up to your car resting on cinder blocks like this? (See Leo’s video)

Photo: Mike D

Thieves took the wheels, catalytic converter and muffler from this Toyota sedan at 3:20 am. It was parked on the corner of 91st Street and Ridge Blvd.

Photo: Mike D.

The thieves were in a white two-door car. It took seven minutes for them to take everything.

Wheel locks might have helped, but if the thief really wanted the wheels, he would have brought something to break the locks.

Update: This afternoon, the car was towed away.
