86 Joy Cafe was open and had a lot of beautiful flowers outside!
Under the store’s name are Chinese symbols which mean: Lianwang Tea Restaurant. *If you want to see translations on your phone download Google Translate.
This new restaurant has the same phone number as the former restaurant, 86th Noodles.
Next door to 86 Joy Cafe, used to be the cannabis store called Mr. Green (see below) , but now the store is Organic One (see here) The man working there was meticulously cleaning the window.

December 2, 2024Fire on 99th Street and 4th Avenue – Bay Ridge

It’s 11:40 pm. We heard the sound of many firetrucks flying down 3rd Avenue. There is a fire on 99th Street and 4th Avenue – it’s in the second floor apartment over Campania. (See videos)
The firefighters had set up ladders going to the two apartments and the roof as well.
The fire is out now and thankfully no one was hurt. Unfortunately, the man who lived in the apartment lost everything. The apartment needs to gutted.
He is one of the amazing chefs at Campania Restaurant. A GoFundMe was started here – even $10 helps. They are collecting clothing in size Large or XL for him and Medium/Large for his wife. Their cat is okay and safe – thank God!
Update: Campania will be closed for a little while they repair the restaurant. Maybe someone will do a small campaign for those workers – so they can live and have some Christmas too.

December 2, 2024Kayla Santosuosso – No. We Need New People.

Justin Brannan is term-limited so his staffer, Kayla Santosusso is running for office.
While Brannan’s Chief of Staff, Chris McCreight was defeated in November, this NYC Council seat is a very gerrymandered district (meaning: the strange map below was made to include more Democrats and exclude the Republicans from Dyker Heights).

When redistricting happened, we should have heard Kayla speak out against these ridiculous district lines. Kayla did not speak out against gerrymandering.
Kayla announced she is running for office, but she hasn’t posted a website with what she represents. That’s the most important thing to voters.

But that’s not the most important thing to politicians. Kayla is collecting money:

Here’s the weird thing:
Kayla Santosuosso is best known for running Khader El-Yateem’s failed campaign in 2017. El-Yateem was a Socialist. (Source)
Kayla filed an ethics violation against Justin Brannan in 2017. (Source) Then she went to work for Brannan?!
Kayla wrote this in her campaign announcement today (here):

While working for Justin Brannan, Kayla was recorded by a group of environmental activists, who went to Brannan’s office because he was not responding to them. No one at a politician’s office should be speaking the way Kayla spoke to them:
The people in the video were fighting for a park not to be destroyed – 1000 trees were removed from this NYC park! (Info)
Before working for Brannan, Kayla participated in protests, so I am surprised she spoke to the activists like that.
The person who runs for this position needs to be someone who unites people. Even in Kayla’s recent writing about election day, she’s dividing the community. (See here)
In October, we saw Kayla campaigning at the Halloween event at Owls Head Park paid for by taxpayers. Bothering parents while they are spending time with their child is wrong. (Seen here) If Chris McCreight and Andrew Gounardes funded the event with their campaign funds, then it would be fine to campaign there – Kayla knew they didn’t and she shouldn’t have been handing out campaign material.
For years, Justin Brannan has ignored big problems in the area. Kayla has not spoken out against corruption or any problems. Why didn’t she help the homeless on R train or do something to stop the craziness on the sidewalks/streets caused by electric bikes. We don’t need another council representative ignoring the problems of the area and taking photos.
Electing anyone from Brannan’s office would just be shuffling chairs.
We need a parent to take this position because they will do the right thing. We need someone committed to helping mentally ill people on the R train. We need someone to take community concerns seriously. There are a lot of outspoken parents, who would do a great job in this position. Now is the time to apply!
