Catholic Charities Neighborhood Services

Matthew, an outreach coordinator from Catholic Charitieis Neighborhood Services spoke about some free services that offered to homebound (or partially homebound) seniors 60-year-old or older.

I made the graphic above because Matthew just announced the information, but I know a lot of you may need some of those services or you have a family member who needs those services.

Deputy Inspector Desaro Was Transferred to The 72nd Precinct

Community Board 10 announced that the head of the 68th Precinct, Deputy Inspector John Desaro was transferred to the 72nd Precinct in Crown Heights today.

The 68th Precinct will get a new leader soon.

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis Introduced Legislation to Cut Capital Gains Taxes for Seniors Selling Their Homes

At tonight’s Community Board 10 meeting, Lori from Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis’ office said that Nicole introduced legislation that would reduce capital gains taxes for seniors who sell their homes.

Under current federal tax law, homeowners can exclude up to $250,000 in profit from capital gains taxes when selling a primary residence if they are single, and up to $500,000 if they are married and file jointly.

Malliotakis’ proposal would increase that tax-free profit exclusion to $1 million for homeowners who are at least 65 years old and have owned their home for at least 25 years, regardless of whether they are married or single.

Two Men Were Shot in Sunset Park After the Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday

After the Puerto Rican Day Parade in Sunset Park yesterday, there was a fight around 7:00 pm and one man in his twenties got shot in his back on 45th Street between 4th & 5th Avenues – closer to 5thAvenue. A 19-year-old man was shot in his arm. News:

At first people thought the gunshots were fireworks. Then they realized someone was shooting and people started running into the park for safety.

The men were taken to NYU Langone Hospital and the news on television said that both are expected to recover.

Senator Chan Gives An Update on Sirico’s Property

Senator Steve Chan gave an update on the property that was Sirico’s Catering Hall at 8023 – 13th Avenue.

Chan had dinner with the new owner. She shared that she likes the property and she will not be changing the size or shape of the building. There will be renovations to make the hall a higher end catering Chinese catering hall.

Renovations will be happening at the Hall during the Fall elections.

Forr the primary, some people will be voting at The Pltato School on 86th Street. Some people received notice that they will be voting at New Utrecht High School at 1601 – 80th Street:

The Knicks Won & Bay Ridge Celebrated

The Mayor announced that the Knicks will be honored with a ticker-tape parade on Thursday.

While celebrations in Bay Ridge were happy and non-violent, some celebrations in Manhattan had people setting fire to a bus, destroying police cars and stabbing people. Mayor Mamdani needs a lot of NYPD officers for the parade.

Fire at TD Bank Near Walgreens – 18th Avenue

This afternoon there was a fire in between the walls of TD Bank and Walgreens’s on 18th Avenue and 67th Street in Bensonhurst.

Walgreens is temporarily closed.

New Foodtown Coming to 4th Ave. & Bay Ridge Avenue

The sign is not up yet, but this is how it may look.

Bay Ridge is getting a new Foodtown grocery store on Bay Ridge Avenue and 4th Avenue, where the old Rite Aid used to be. They will open on Friday, June 26th.

This Foodtown is not the same owners as the existing Foodtown on 3rd Avenue and 91st Street.

Congratulations to the new owners!

AltWingSpot is Opening on 5th Ave. in Bay Ridge

Dixy Chicken at 7504 – 5th Avenue closed.

AltWingSpot is opening in it’s place. Kevin H. shared the photo of the doors announcing that a grand opening is coming soon.

They have 25 flavors for the chicken and they are halal. See their website: https://www.atlwingspot.com

There is a AltWingSpot in Staten Island and people said it was very good.
