Everyone around 13th Avenue in the 70’s knows this wonderful owner. His son also worked at the store.

April 21, 2026Two Delicious Split Pea Soups in Bay Ridge

Tonight I had M&M Deli/The Bean Post’s split pea soup and it was soooooooo good.

This was the first time I had their pea soup. It’s definitely homemade and it is worth mentioning because it was delicious and very hearty. (I mention this because some places serve soup that tastes like canned soup). Also it was reasonably priced. M&M Deli is at 506 – 76th Street.

A completely different pea soup that is equally delicious is Offshore Diner’s pea soup. They give you homemade croutons and they are so good in the creamy soup. If you at pea soup at a diner yeas ago, they always had fantastic crunchy croutons. Offshore Diner is at 7822 – 3rd Avenue.

April 20, 2026Why Didn’t the 5th Avenue BID Discuss Removal of Garbage Bins at the March CB 10 Meeting?

The 5th Avenue BID removed the garbage cans from the street corners.
Sixteen Citibins were placed on 5th Avenue from 67th Street to 85th Street (pictured above).
Why? The BID wrote in their newsletter that the NYC Department of Sanitation directed all BIDs to take steps toward containerization.
The new containers were placed at 6701, 6729, 6739, 6801, 6901, 7101, 7134, 7321, 7428, 7601, 7801, 7901, 8125, 8226, 8325, and 8425 5th Avenue. Some blocks went from having garbage cans on on each corner to just one Citibin for the whole block (some blocks have none!)
The problem is that the BID and local politicians didn’t communicate this with the community. Why? Because they do not care!
People have been sharing that the cans were removed and there is no where to put trash.
Before the garbage cans were removed from the corners, they should have taped the top of the cans and put a sign alerting people to use the new Citibins. Most people think these containers are private garbage bins for the businesses on 5th Avenue.
The BID put a video on Instagram and thought that was good. See:
Now garbage is being left on some street corners where the garbage cans used to be. Even worse: some property owners are being fined because garbage was left next to their garbage cans on the street.
Next week, the Bay Ridge BID will finally share the information at the CB10 Environmental Committee on Thursday, April 23rd at 7:00 pm at the District Office 8119- 5th Avenue or via Zoom at https://bit.ly/ENV042322026

Why wasn’t this information shared at the March meeting? The Director of the Bay Ridge BID is on Community Board 10.
Bay Ridge’s NYC Council representative, Kayla Santosuosso sent out a newsletter with very little information. Why didn’t she mention this change to 5th Avenue so property owners didn’t get ticketed?
