The 68th Precinct Remembered David Gutenberg
On December 28, 1976, NYPD Patrolman David Gutenberg lost his life after walking in on a robbery in progress at a Brooklyn auto body shop in Bay Ridge.
The corner of 86th Street and Seventh Avenue in Dyker Heights is named after Officer Gutenberg.
For years, people have been posting messages in memory of Officer Gutenberg (here).

Malliotakis Dares Governor Hochul to Ride a NYC Train Alone….To See If It Feels Safe
Congress Representative Nicole Malliotakis called out Governor Hochul for being out-of-touch in NYC and posting selfies on the subway on the same day a woman was lit on fire on a train in Coney Island Station.

The R train is delayed in both directions at 4:00 pm because someone us being disruptive on a R train at the 95th Street station in Bay Ridge.

Tommaso’s Restaurant is Closing December 31st
Today, Tommaso’s Restaurant at 1464 – 86th announced they are closing after being in business for fifty-five years. Their last day will be December 31st.
Last May, the neighborhood was sad when they saw the For Sale sign on the corner property. (See here)
For years, Chef Thomas Verdillo created amazing Italian dishes at Tomasso’s Restaurant. Brooklynites loved his Carnevale celebration dinner for Mardi Gras each year (see here), as well as his love of music (opera).
Chef Tom died in December 2020 from complications with Covid-19. (Source) His family kept the restaurant opened for four years.

Café Rendez Vous Opened on 3rd Ave – Bay Ridge
Café Rendez Vous is a new coffee shop and eatery at 7221 – 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge.
The place looks like a nice place for people to meet for coffee. (See their instagram)

Dyker Heights Pharmacy Robbed on Dec. 20th. News Didn’t Report About It Until Dec. 27th
Two thieves broke into Dyker Heights Pharmacy at 8016 – 13th Avenue at 6:00 am. The thieves took $2000 in narcotics.
They drove away in a gray Infinity sedan.
These thieves are robbing pharmacies in Queens as well. (See here)
The local newspaper didn’t write about it. It took a week for Brooklyn 12 News to report about. (See here)
Senator Andrew Gounardes has been tweeting silly things online all week and never mentioned this small business being robbed early in the morning or gave a warning to other small pharmacies that this is happening.

In October, Captain Jon Desaro became the commanding officer of the 68th Precinct, Today, it became official that Captain Dasaro will be leading the 68th Precinct. Congratulations!
The 68th Precinct shared this:
Last time we received a new captain, the community was invited watch the interviews over Zoom. This time, the community wasn’t invited to the interview. I wonder why.

Brooklyn Parents Arrested in PA for Leaving Their Daughter in the Car While They Gambled
A six-year-old girl was left in the car as her parents, To Yeung and Chunyahn Wang went to a casino in Pennsylvania to gamble. (Source) Both parents are 44-years old, so they know better!
The girl was in the car for 45 minutes outside of Parx Casino in Bensalem. (Source) The temperatures was 29 degrees. (Source) The car was not running for the heat to be on.
The child is okay and is staying with relatives. (Source)
The parents were arrested. (Source) “Wang and Yeung were arraigned before District Judge Joseph Falcone on Monday. They were released after posting $3,000 bail each.” (Source) They were each charged with child endangerment.

RIP Robbie Miller – Social Worker Murdered Outside Brooklyn Homeless Shelter
Robbie Miller was a social worker at a homeless shelter at 1691 New York Avenue in Brooklyn.
Tonight, a man fatally stabbed Robbie in his neck and abdomen. (Info) He was only 35-years-old.
