The Metropolitan Baptist Church at 1624 84th Street invites the community to join them for prayer this family and for Dyker Heights (the home invasion has left people on edge).

Brooklyn, please pray for the 16-year-old daughter – the man who stabbed the children was the father of this young woman and she must be devastated.
We will not be joining you for prayer as we are celebrating someone special in our family.

April 8, 2025We Need More Police Officers in Brooklyn!

I’m glad Richie Barsamian is talking about crime and the need for more police officers in Brooklyn.
NY also needs to offer young men and women more of an incentive to become police officers. NYPD officers can no longer retire after 20 years. Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton representing Staten Island and Coney Island has a bill to reinstate retirement after twenty years. Steve Chan just started in Albany this January and already he is co-sponsoring the bill!

April 7, 2025Thieves Break Into Dyker Heights Home 3:40 am

Dyker Heights residents in the 80’s between 11th and 12th Avenue shared that thieves broke into their home at 3:40 am. The thieves walked around in their home, but did not go to the bedrooms. Thankfully, they are alright and were not harmed.
The Dyker residents encouraged the community to lock their windows and put on their house alarms overnight.
The thieves used a crowbar and hammer to open the window. It took them awhile to open the window. The thieves were young.
They home owners believe the thieves were looking for car keys.
Ironically, Councilman Justin Brannan, the politician who has ignored Dyker Heights for years wrote online that he asked the NYPD to patrol the area late at night. Brannan is running for election in June, so he wants to look like he is doing something.

April 6, 2025Sisters Stabbed By Their Uncle on 84th Street

This morning around 10:00 am, some children were attacked by their relative with a knife at their home on 84th Street between 16th and 17th Avenue. Three of the girls are sisters and the man is their uncle. It was later reported that the 16-year-old girl is the daughter of the man who stabbed the girls – how awful!
Thankfully, all these children are alive and were taken to the hospital.
The NY Post has pictures of people covered in blood (they are awful): https://is.gd/JKcjcR
The NY Post’s article stated that the sisters were ages 8 to 13 and their older cousin was 16. Their Mother was not at home when this happened The 11-year-old sister called the police and saved her family. The police arrived at the home and an uninjured male child let them in. They kicked down a door where they heard screaming.

Thank God for these quick-thinking and acting police officers in the 62nd Precinct!

From AM NY: “I saw a guy come out on a stretcher. he wasn’t moving, his shirt was all bloody and he was handcuffed to the stretcher. His eyes were rolling back in his head,” said eyewitness Humberto Hureta, 23. “I never saw anything like it.”

April 6, 20252.5 Years After Dyker Heights Reported Extreme Flooding, Brannan Says They Will Get Help

In September 2022, residents in Dyker Heights told the community about how extreme the flooding was in their basements at a Community Board 10 Meeting (seniors were walking in waist-high water).
Senator Andrew Gounardes and Councilman Brannan promised them help. Seniors in the area explained how fearful they were of rain storms due to the flooding.
One resident returned the following year and spoke about how he and his wife have to spend so much time cleaning up his flooded basement. Community Board 10 never provided an update or mentioned the problem again.
Today, the politician who is running for election in the June primary, announced that money has been put towards the infrastructure project. No timeline provided.

I guess it’s better late than never. We need a new senator and City Council Representative as these two aren’t communicating and taking care of community issues in a timely manner.
