Robbers Entered Home on 80th Street and Ridge Blvd. While The Family Were Sleeping

Between 3:30 and 4:00 am this morning, two thieves entered a home on 80th Street and Ridge Blvd in Bay Ridge. They popped a locked window to get in. The family was asleep.

Two burglars plus their getaway driver were noticed driving up and down Ridge Blvd suspiciously back and forth as early as 1:00 am. This car was seen on the block at 3:30 am parked at the hydrant. The driver sat in the vehicle, while two men got out with flashlights and looked for an entry into the home. They went to the backyard first. When they found everything was locked, they took the screen off and popped the lock on a window from the outside.

The thieves grabbed purses and jackets. They were hunting for car keys as the saw high end cars parked in the driveway. (During the Summer, another Bay Ridge family had thieves enter their home and steal car keys).

Thank God the family is okay – the children remained asleep. The husband was hurt a little, but he is okay.

The thieves ran out of the house and drove away into a dark vehicle.

The home alarm system was not on – turn on your alarms, Bay Ridge. They shared what happened because they want us to do what we can to secure our homes.

They gave these suggestions:

-As a neighborhood we should all install security cameras pointing at the street with high quality video (good idea)

-Get a signal blocker box for your car keys

-Install better security around the house, set your alarm system

-If you have average window locks as we did, consider jamming it closed at night with books or pieces of wood

-If you see suspicious activity please call the police. The NYPD 68th Precinct practically teleported to our front door right after we called.

-Keep valuables hidden and locked away, don’t leave car keys in easily accessible drawers close to the entrance

A Thief Robbed a Woman on 86th St. & 4th Avenue By Threatening Her With Scissors

TODAY, the police shared that a woman was robbed in Bay Ridge on 86th Street and 4th Avenue ON DECEMBER 28th – that’s more than three weeks ago. (News here and here)

The man showed a pair of red scissors. He took the woman’s purse. He is believed to be in his 30’s. The man is around 5’6″ tall and 175 pounds.

The man ran to the train station to get away (and that’s how they have the picture above).

Why didn’t the 68th Precinct share this with the community weeks ago? Captain John Dasaro is new to our precinct, but should have reached out to the community by now.

Why didn’t Councilman Justin Brannan or Senator Andrew Gounardes give the community a heads up three weeks ago? There are so many ways to communicate, but the police and politicians are not doing that.

People in Bay Ridge share information with their neighbors so that people are alert and can watch out for criminals. The police and politicians in this area just don’t care. They tell their staff and families and that’s it.
