RIP Pope Francis

Pope Francis’ name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He changed his name to Francis when he became Pope in 2013 – after St. Francis of Assisi.
Tonight Heaven will have a huge party for him.

April 21, 2025Zipcar Wants Four Street Parking Spots in Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights – CB 10 Meeting 4/22

Last week, Community Board 10 held a committee meeting. Zipcar presented and they weren’t forthcoming with information.
First the Zipcar representative said: “We are actually new to CB10.” No, Zipcar has been in Bay Ridge for years – they are not new to our area.
When someone on CB 10 asked how many cars they had in the area, the Zipcar representative said they didn’t know. They could have easily checked on the app. Zipcar is in several locations in this community. There were cars available in our area over the busy holiday weekend. Enterprise is also a business in our community and they rents cars.
Zipcar want to take two parking spots near Owls Head Park at 120 – 68th Street. And they want two parking spots on 78th Street near 13th Avenue.
Thankfully, no one one Community Board 10 voted for Zipcar to take four parking spots. Private companies should not be taking public spaces.
Car sharing is not a new topic for Community Board 10. GetAround Car Sharing did a virtual presentation and then took spots from our community.

Back then, Senator Andrew Gounardes did not reveal his association with this company. But Queens residents found Gounardes and other Progressive politicians at a GetAround event right before they lost their parking spots in Queens. You can see that here:
https://getaround.com/blog/nyc-kickoff-event
You can hear Andrew Gounardes on video below:
We aren’t sure why Andrew Gouanardes was supporting GetAround, but he was too cowardly to tell our community. He definately does not understand businesses. It was announced at the Community Board 10 meeting that GetAround Car Share went out of business in North America.

This is the third time a carshare company is going after parking spots in Bay Ridge. In 2015, out community was covered by small white Cars2Go. That was Eric Adams when he was Brooklyn Borough President and the former head of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. Politicians shouldn’t be making bad choices for our community.
Every neighborhood is different. In Bay Ridge, many people drive because the R train did not receive the upgrades that other trains did. While Senator Gounardes sent out a flyers saying we were getting 8 minute service, no one in Bay Ridge has seen trains running every eight minutes. If trains were running correctly, we wouldn’t see Andrew Gounardes driving to his office in Downtown Brooklyn.
On Tuesday, April 22nd, the Zipcars are on the agenda for the CB 10 Meeting at 9941 Fort Hamilton Parkway at 7:00 pm.
It should be a lot clearer on their graphic (in the large paragraph below where it says car sharing).

April 19, 2025Illegal Vendors on 8th Avenue are Hurting Businesses. NYPD Ticket Blitz is Needed

The illegal vendors don’t have to pay rent or insurance, so their items can be lower in price. Senator Steve Chan said they have a following on social media, like WeChat.
There should be somewhere where they can legally sell away from these vendors.
Local leaders need to remind the police to have them removed from 8th Avenue because the avenue is very crowded and less people are shopping there because of it.

April 19, 2025NYPD Deputy Chief is Suing Susan Zhuang

Photo: NY Post
The case against Councilwoman Susan Zhuang was dropped. The NY Post wrote: “This case was resolved through a restorative justice process that created space for dialogue, accountability, and healing.
Zhuang and the NYPD Deputy Chief met and spoke with each other as part of the process.
Now Deputy Chief Frank DiGiacomo has a lawsuit against Councilwoman Susan Zhuang. See news:
https://is.gd/6WT4q5
Susan Zhuang had been a long time supporter of the NYPD. Even before she was elected, she was doing nice things for the NYPD. What happened in the early hours that morning was not done maliciously or planned. In prior incidents, the police worked with Susan and shut the development down when the business didn’t have the right permits. The police understood Susan was working with for the people and the police helped her prior to this incident.
Why did Deputy Chief Frank DiGiacomo forgive Susan and have the criminal charges dismissed and then change his mind?

April 19, 2025Sidewalk Driving on Ft. Hamilton Parkway

This guy isn’t concerned about being ticketed because there is no one on 63rd Street off Ft. Hamilton to ticket him.
You may not think this is important because it is slightly out of your way and you don’t know any children in this area. But when they are driving this around your area, you will have wished you said something.

Nothing happens to people driving vehicles on the sidewalk. When a child gets seriously hurt, that’s when someone will do something….when it’s too late.
If this cart doesn’t need a license plate to drive around Brooklyn, why wouldn’t families have them to transport their children, their friends and sports equipment?

April 19, 2025Clothes Bin Unloaded Regularly 4th Ave./92nd St

There has been a clothing collection bin outside of BP Gas Station on 92nd Street and 4th Avenue for about 10 years. People dropped off clothing and the bin was never a mess.

This year it is raided regularly and the clothing is all over. On a regular basis, it looks like the photos above, rather than the photo below where a bag fell out of the bin.
