May 3, 2025How Come There is No Saturday Night Hoops with the NYPD for Bay Ridge Teens?

The officers from the 68th Precinct loves playing with the younger children in the park on Shore Road. The 68th Precinct also has a baseball league for children:
Each year, the NYPD has Saturday Night Lights and the city is covered with locations for teens to play basketball with police officers.

Yet, our community, Homecrest and Sheepshead Bay do not have any locations for teens to play basketball at night with police officers.
New Utrecht High School and FDR high school are on the map without a basketball because they are not open locations. See map:
https://nypd.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0598468e4d4f4246a05d60c18f185248

Are the NYPD officers in this area not into basketball or is it as simple as they don’t have a place to play basketball with teens in the evening?

May 1, 2025Megan’s Bench Was Restored Again – Shore Road

The beautiful rainbow bench on Shore Road was made in memory of Megan. Info:
The bench was defaced for the fourth time this week. Hate is strong.
Each time it’s had graffiti, someone take the time to repaint it because they know that the bench means a lot to many people in our community.
Thank God for all the Ridgites who cared enough to carry a rainbow of paints to the Shore Road bike path and cover the area with hope!

May 1, 2025The NYS Assembly Passed the Medical Aide in Dying Act

This week, the NYS Assembly voted in favor of the Medical Aide in Dying Act.
I’m surprised the bill was brought to the floor. It’s a very controversial topic, Assemblyman Mike Tannousis voted against the bill and used social media to explain why he was against the bill. Listen here:
This week, I voted against the Medical Aid in Dying Act. I recognize the profound emotional weight of this issue. Witnessing a loved one suffer at the end of life is truly devastating, and every individual deserves dignity and compassion during such a difficult time, especially… pic.twitter.com/MPXZ2TgPHJ

In 2017, the Brittany Maynard story brought to light MAID (Medical Aide in Dying). Maynard was 29-years-old woman living in California and she had terminal brain cancer. She was given six months to live. California does not allow MAID. She and her family moved from California to Oregon, so she could choose a physician’s assisted suicide to end her life. More info:

Will the bill pass the NYS Senate? Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, who represents Staten Island and Coney Island shared that she is supporting the bill.

Senator Andrew Gounardes did not share his view on this bill or how he would vote because he was too busy mocking Republicans on social media today (every day). Let’s vote for an adult, who isn’t interested in playing on social media, Bay Ridge.

The Bay Ridge Memorial Day Parade is Monday, May 26th and starts at 11:00 am on 3rd Avenue and 78th Street. IT’S RAIN OR SHINE!

The parade walks down 3rd Avenue to Marine Avenue and then they make a left up to 4th Avenue.
On 4th Avenue, they make a right and head to 101st Street to go to John Paul Jones Park for the memorial service.
The veterans love when Bay Ridge cheers and claps for them!
Strolling Around 777 recorded the parade last year:
If you are up early, this is actually worth seeing as well on Shore Road and 81st Street at 10:00 am.

Some Bay Ridge businesses will have barbecues and red, white and blue drink specials. Last Year:
1) Hom at 8810 3rd Avenue has brunch.
