Best Pottery Barn Discount Ever!
![]()
I went to SmithHaven Mall today after school. Karen needed to get some new outfits and then we made a stop into one of my favorite stores, Williams Sonoma. I made a very small purchase. When I paid, the cashier gave me the change and then she gave me two coupon cards. Pottery Barn is having a Friends and Family Day October 16 – 19th and giving 20% discount at any of their stores (not online). For the Pottery Barn Friends and Family Day, you need the postcard that they are giving out now. So if you need to make a good purchase at Pottery Barn, stop into the Williams Sonoma store and make a small purchase. Maybe even Pottery Barn or Pottery Barn Kids/Teen is giving out these postcards now?
It’s practically unheard of for Pottery Barn to give any discount other than the registry discount. It’s amazing that Pottery Barn is offering a Friends and Family Day with 20% discount since online discount codes for Pottery Barn are so hard to come by. I have a gift card and can’t wait until the 16th to get some great Pottery Barn items at a discount. I bet some of their Halloween items will be on sale as well because of the close proximity to the holiday. Happy Shopping!

September 29, 2008US Bailout Plan Vote Coming Soon
The US government is going to attempt to pass a bailout plan to save the economy. Maybe it will work and maybe it won’t. Attempting to throw money at a situation without changing other factors rarely works. How about removing top government officials who should have had economists forecasting these problems months ago? I can’t believe that economists for NYC Mayor Bloomberg’s private company weren’t able to predict the fall of the economy.

September 28, 2008Three Guys from Brooklyn
This is the fruit and veggie store, Three Guys from Brooklyn located on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 65th Street in Brooklyn. It’s a pretty popular store because their slogan is Three Guys from Brooklyn – the Poor People’s Friends.
![]()
Everyone wants to get their produce at a discounted price. Today, when we were passing, I grabbed my camera because I saw these new signs outside of the fruit market.
![]()
Three Guys from Brooklyn doesn’t really think that this would take liability away from the store in the event of an accident, do they? I’m sure they think they are scaring people a bit, but do they really think most Brooklynites believe their signs? I think the signs are just another sign of our times – Everyone looks to blame everyone else. Why doesn’t the store simply remove the carts and give everyone hand baskets? It’s not that big of a store that people would need the carts anyway.
In happier news, there are Great Giveaways around the web here.

September 25, 2008Lee’s Guilty Pleasure
This weekend, I also got a chance to capture Lee’s guilty pleasure on television. The man that I love, build things with and have stimulating conversation with watches this cartoon.
![]()
In the cartoon is a talking french fry guy, the red blob is the meat (for hamburger), a talking shake (seen in the pool drinking beer and a weird guy named edit: Carl (body less in this pic) . The french fries, meat and shake all tease Carl and Carl tries to outsmart them. The show is only 15 minutes long. I was surprised that Lee was so humored by these silly characters as I found him laughing hysterically at this show called Acuateen Hunger Force. Incidently, Lee then asked me to sit and watch more of these cartoons as he had taped more of them.

September 23, 2008Wonderful Day after a hard weekend
I was sick all weekend. Thank God for sending me the most amazing man and friends that a woman could have. Soup, chicken, rice and good conversations. I slept a lot as well.
My health was restored today and I had a great day at school. I’m tired and my eyes are bleary tonight, but it was a good day of learning!

September 18, 2008Police in Brooklyn
I love the men and women in blue. Many of my friends are police officers and really take pride in their work.
But I have a complaint about the undercover officers in Brooklyn. Lately, I have seen many of these police officers in unmarked cars. I am glad they are there protecting the area. Yet, many of them in the unmarked cars, throw on their lights and think everyone can see them the second that they put the lights on. Tonight around 7:00 pm, we were on the Belt Parkway and two unmarked police cars (Impala type cars – one black and one white) threw on their lights behind me and thought I would fly out of their way. The Belt was packed and there was nowhere for me to pull over so that the police could pass. So if you are a police officer in Brooklyn, NY give civilians a minute to realize that you are a copy in an unmarked car so that we can give you the right of way.
During the summer, we were driving on Sixth Avenue and 83rd Street in Brooklyn. A copy in an unmarked SUV threw on his lights and expected Lee to pull out of his way in a second. Lee and I had the airconditioner on and were talking. As soon as we heard the siren, Lee pulled to the side and the officer pulled up and said, he was going to arrest Lee for not pulling over fast enough. We dismissed the cop as just being one of those bad apple type cops. After seeing two more police officers doing the same thing tonight, I am pretty sure they aren’t aware that they haven’t given people enough time to react to the situation.

September 15, 2008Back to School Tips for Moms from a Teacher
It’s the second full week of school here in Brooklyn! Parents are usually very enthusiastic about school the first week. After that, they assume that their child can handle the school day. Yet many children have difficulty adjusting after a long relaxing vacation. School work, homework and after school activities are a big change from the easy summer days. Be sure your child is getting enough sleep now that school has begun.
Being organized really helps children succeed in school. Children need to learn how to become organized. It isn’t automatic simply because folders and a planner/homework pad have been purchased. Here are some tips that I have told parents over the years:
1. Have an area that your child can work at each day. A desk is best, but the kitchen table is fine as well.
2. Hang a calendar at your child’s height and each week be sure to add project due dates.
3. On Sunday night, check your child’s bag with them. Remove any old papers, organize folders and replenish any supplies that may have been used or wore out. Pens and looseleaf always seem to run out quickly.
4. If your child has a locker at school, encourage them to store extra looseleaf and pens there.
5. In your child’s backpack, put a small travel size bottle of Purell and some facial tissues.
6. If your school has a website, check it regularly. Some teachers even post daily homework assignments on the web.
7. Join the PTA and offer to help once in awhile. We’re all busy, but spending a little time with the PTA will help your child’s school. You’ll also be able to get the inside scoop on upcoming events and school news.
8. Try to conect with your child’s teacher through a note. Giving a teacher your cell or e-mail is very helpful. I love to let parent’s know of student’s progress or difficulties. Keeping your child’s teacher updated about any changes in your home is helpful too (ex. births, deaths or divorces).
9. When your child struggles through homework, something is wrong. Contact the teacher with a note as soon as possible. Don’t wait for parent teacher conferences to address this.
10. If a child says that the teacher doesn’t like him or her, dig deeper. Your child is probably experiencing difficulty in a class and is upset about it. Your child may also be very sensitive and taken something the teacher said the wrong way. In either case, after speaking with the child, contact the teacher. A teacher doesn’t want a child to be uncomfortable in class.
11. Talk to your child about their school day. Ask about other students in their class. Find out who your child regards as a friend. Ask if their are any bullies. If your child is being bothered by a bully, contact the teacher. Even if your child pleads with you not to tell the teacher, call, write or schedule a meeting with the teacher. Children are afraid of bullies and even more afraid of what bullies might do if they tell. If you hear of any bullying in your child’s class, a simple note or e-mail to the teacher is helpful.
Have a great school year!
