April 9th – my Sweetie’s Birthday

It’s Lee’s birthday and I am so happy. I love celebrating his the day he was born. I am so thankful for his kindness and love. Today, we had lunch together because I am off. Very sweet afternoon.

Strange Fascination with towels!

I’m heading out with a friend to go to some art events around Brooklyn, but before I go I just wanted to jog down some thoughts.

 I am very fascinated with linens. All kinds of linens interest me – sheets, blankets, quilts, tablecloths and towels. I love going to Kohls with a friend of mine. She finds it strange that all I want to purchase there are hand towels. Today’s pick was towels with little birds and nests with eggs – so cute!

Moving Companies Bay Ridge

It was so hard to find a moving company that I trusted. I have heard terrible stories about how moving companies scratched furniture. We don’t have a good living room or dining room set, but I love our bedroom furniture and I don’t want it scratched.

And I had a lot of equipment to move. 

We used Schleppers Moving Company and loved them. They were recommended to us by a friend who said they were very careful with her items.

Our friends used All Star Moving Company and liked them. And our new neighbors in Bay Ridge recommended Greenbaum Expert Movers. 

In 2014, a lot of our friends started using NYC Green line movers  and Veterans Movers.

Tips for Moving:

I had all the boxes packed and labeled with what floor and room they were going to. The movers were strong and hard- working men. I would recommend:

a) Even though everything is packed, make sure you have the day off from work and can supervise the move

b) Before any moving starts, talk with the head mover so he knows what needs to be done. For us, it was having furniture wrapped. I discussed how many things were to be wrapped with the owner of the company, but that was not on the paper when he arrived the morning of the move.   

b) Show them where the heaviest boxes are so they can load them into the truck. For us, that was our book boxes.

c) Getting the cell phone number of the head moving guy

d) Buy several types of cold drinks and have bottles of water. It was a hot day in August when we moved and our men were so hot!

Looking forward to Easter

I’m looking forward to Easter because of this Lent. I stepped away from the computer quite a bit to do a Bible study. I’ve never done a Bible study because but I read the Book of Ester and did Beth Moore’s study on it since Angie recommended it. I felt so uplifted and I learned so much. I’ve spent a lot of time in prayer with the Lord.

A lot of my friends are using Facebook. I joined years ago because my old students invited me. I know so many people who spends hours each week on the site. I don’t really like Facebook because I don’t think it’s that interesting to “unite” with friends from twenty years ago. I mean if I wanted to talk to them, I would have sought them out years ago and reunited. right?

I hate public bathrooms.

Living in NYC made me hate public bathrooms.

I hate the smell – oh it’s bad.

I hate that there is pee all over. In an attempt not to touch the toilet seat, women spray all over the place. So gross. Watch the bottom of your pants.

I hate that the toilet dispenser has a thing on it to stop the paper from moving so you can get a normal amount of paper out.

I hate the silence of the public bathroom – play some music already.

Finally, I hate the bathroons that have an automatic sprayer to spray air freshner every time the door opens and someone leaves. Hello….there are still people inside the bathroom that need to breathe.

In Long Island or Connecticut, public bathrooms are much cleaner so I know it is a NYC thing.

Pottery Barn

I can’t help it….I love Pottery Barn. I mean I am so addicted to the store and I stalk the website ALL OF THE TIME. So for Lent I gave it up because it was taking up a lot of my time, but I have to tell you, I still snuck a peek here and there. When I saw a co-worker browsing, I looked on with her. Then there was the time on the train when the woman was browsing the PB Kids catalog and I annoying read along with her.

Pottery Barn free shipping codes are rare and so are Pottery Barn discount codes like 20% off. All over the web, there are people searching for Pottery Barn codes. Why can’t Pottery Barn listen to the people and give us a few codes once in awhile?

Lent

When I was a child, Lent was so important to me. Years have passed and I vowed that Lent would be very important to me again.

And it feels great that Lent is special this year. I am really looking forward to Easter with as much anticipation as a child has for Christmas. I don’t know why I didn’t make more time for it before.  I’ve been reading the Bible and involved in a Bible study. Haven’t had much time for online chat and socializing. 

Other than that we have been busy with some big plans for this summer :)   Hope you are all well and enjoying Spring!

Marty Markowitz – Do You Know How To Use Money?

Before someone runs for office, they should show that they know how to spend and save money.  The Brooklyn Paper recently brought to our attention filings that were posted on the Campaign Finance Board website. The writer brought forth that Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz spent almost $6,000 (yes, SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS) on chocolates. Yes, it’s great chocolate from Brooklyn’s well known sweet shop in DUMBO,  Jacques Torres Chocolate, but still it’s SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS. If Markowitz wants to spend that money so frivolously, then why doesn’t he spend his own money for the chocolates? Why not spend the campaign money on important things that were needed in the office?

I just don’t get how money was so frivolously spent.

Bay Ridge Housing Market Just Fell

I know a lot of Bay Ridge realtors think the Bay Ridge Real Estate Market can hold onto $799,000+ homes, but the truth is the market is at 7114 – the way the market was over 12 years ago. There’s no way million dollar homes in Bay Ridge are going to sell.

$600,000 homes, YES!

Sean Delonas Lost His Mind – NY Post

Sean Delonas, political cartoonist for the NY Post Newspaper created a very controversial and inappropriate cartoon depicting a monkey being shot by the police. What made the cartoon inappropriate was the title above the cartoon which read, “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.”  As soon as I saw it, I thought that cartoonist is out of his mind and is so inappropriate. Yes, we are all familiar with the chimpanzee attack, but it’s clear that Delonas was referring to Obama in the cartoon. On the page prior to the cartoon, there is a picture of President Obama signing the stimulus bill. C’mon NY Post get with it!

We’ve come so far as a nation & it’s sad to see that there will always people like Delonas ready to set the world back in hopes of gaining notariaty. We elected a black president, yet this newspaper hides their racist views behind the idea that political satire is appropriate.

The Post sees how upset people have become because of this and did not issue an apology. But I can see the Post enjoying the sensationism that Delonas’ cartoon has brought.

Life Inspiration

I have been seeing a lot of “Note to younger self messages” on blogs, I think because of Brad Paisley’s Song, “Letter to Me.”  So if I could write a letter to myself at 17, it would look something like this:  Dear M, First things first. Don’t take yourself or anyone else too seriously.  Next, don’t look for your immediate family to be your everything. They are not the Cosby’s and you won’t find much more than blood relations between you.   Don’t worry though you will realize much later that God has given you so many other people to support and love you.   This will become an a life lesson to you will value people in your life so much more.  You spend a lot of your younger life looking wisdom. Wondering about life’s purpose and pondering through religions wastes a lot of time, but eventually you realize the answers were right in front of you. Understanding that God could have helped you if you had just asked doesn’t come until many years later.    

 I wouldn’t leave you any advice on men or school. You are wise beyond your years and you make some great choices.  

Relax, stress less and stop worrying. You turn out pretty decent. Life isn’t about having regrets or looking back and wondering, it’s about looking ahead and believe that everyday will be better.Love,Me
