Amazing Birthday

I celebrated my birthday yesterday! I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by great family and friends. As I get older, I understand why people say life is short. I can’t say enough how important Jesus has been in my life this year.

Better Houses Coming on the Brooklyn Market

I’ve been very excited to see that better houses are coming on the market now that it is Springtime in the city!  We’re looking at a few this weekend with a friend.

I’m not sure open houses are the best way to find a house in Brooklyn because usually the open house is a home that the agents couldn’t sell and are trying to unload.

Not having a great day…

Thursday Update: Friends – thank you for all of your prayers, kind tweets, phone calls and good thoughts. Today was much better than I thought it would be.

People have been in rare form today and I wind up coming home being annoyed by their actions. Do they care? Nope, not even a speck.

And I wish I could say more, but I can’t. So say a prayer for me because I cry on the inside a lot. This is just one of those days.

Gorgeous Weekend in Brooklyn

It’s almost 3 am and I wanted to get a few thoughts down before bed.

Brooklyn was so hot this weekend. It was hot summer weathers. Everyone was wearing flip flops and shorts all weekend. I can hardly sleep even though I have the windows open and a fan on.

We are sooooo happy. We had a great family barbecue and enjoyed the weekend relaxing. I’m so thankful.

*With that said, I am scared to hear the news about the Swine Flu in NYC. My germ-a-phobe mind didn’t like hearing that six or eight students at St. Francis Prep in Queens have acquired the Swine flu. Hopefully, NYC isn’t going to have a pandemic. Yet, I can’t stop thinking that some of my students went to Mexico for Spring Break (last week).

Prayer – even when you don’t feel like it

Edit: Just wanted to add that this does work. it’s so hard to do at first because who wants to pray for someone who isn’t good at the moment?

Jesus prayed for the hypocrits. Sometimes this isn’t easy to do. I’m trying. I know I need to pray for someone I don’t want to today more for myself than for them. I know I need to forgive and forget. But I’m mad right now so it will have to wait.

Back to School

After being off for 11 days, I dreaded going back. I mean I love teaching, but it is so much fun to be off and free. But I have really enjoyed the first two days of school. It’s nice to see my students maturing. Spring is a time for everything blossoming!

The most amazing day!

It’s 4:03 am and I don’t want to go to sleep because I have had one of the most amazing days.

I GOT SO MUCH DONE AND HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME!

The day started with coffee from the drive through shop on 65th Street and 13th Avenue (the most amazing coffee in Brooklyn) and a roll. Then we went for a “works” car wash & inside cleaning from the shop on McDonald Avenue. We came back home and did the front gardening (weeding all of the boxes, planting seeds and small plants).

Then we had a barbecue with friends (soooo good). After eating, I decided to give the dog a haircut. And Super Lee prepped the backyard!!

After dinner, Karen helped me pack away the Easter decorations and put out Spring flags. I handled a small tax issue and sent that electronically to the IRS. Then Karen and I went and bought new windshield wipers for my car & Lee popped them on.

Late tonight, we ordered Indian food (Bay Parkway & Bath Avenue).

And even the wee hours of the morning I just did my student’s report card grades.

Thank God for a beautiful sunny day that motivated everyone to get so much done with good friends.

Cleaners & trying to be environmentally friendly

If you know me, you will know I am a germ-a-phob. It’s not really my fault though. It’s my mother’s fault. Ya know, when in doubt blame your mom, right? Seriously though, it is my mother’s fault.

My mother was a germ-a-phob and she made me one too. Although she was a stay-at-home Mom, there were times when she ventured out on the train to go shopping in Manhattan or Downtown Brooklyn. My Mom believed that trains had the most germs and she didn’t want to bring the germs into a house full of children. I clearly remember her coming home and rushing to take a shower. Then she would take her clothes and bring them downstairs to the washing machine. When I asked her why she came in and showered, she said, “There are a lot of dirty people in New York.”  (LOL….she is right about that). My Mom even repeated this same routine each time she had to serve on jury duty because there’s a lot of dirty people in the courthouse too!  Luckily, I didn’t inherit the train/shower routine.

So I’m a germaphob and I like to clean deeply. I like love the smell of ammonia, but I no longer use it at my house or in my classroom because it is harmful to humans and pets breathing. Yet, I can’t find a cleaner that is green and cleans deeply. The green cleaners that I have tried don’t cut grease, produce the same shine or smell as good as my old cleaners and ammonia. I want to be green, but it’s not working for me.

Fabric

Tonight Lee and I went to New Jersey. I love going to NJ because there are huge fabric and craft stores there. We used to have a Rag Shop in Brooklyn, but it closed two years ago. So I purchased some material and crafting supplies. Yet, most of the time I shop for material online. I generally look for like clean patterns for aprons and simple children’s items. I like the preppy look of the yellow and pink stripes and diamonds the fabric at Pixie Dust Decor. Where do you get your material from?

Tax Deadline Day

It’s tax day for Most of America. Some states have their taxes due on April 30th which is nice that they don’t have to meet the April 15th rush. I did mine months ago because I like to file all of the papers and get them out of the way.

Each year, more people ask me to do their taxes for them. I’m not trained in taxes, but I love using the tax software. It’s kind of exciting to see if they are going to wind up paying or getting a rebate.

I know the economy is hurting a lot of families this year, so I hope everyone is getting at least a little refund this year.
