Haiti – eyes wide open

Sure things happen all around the world that make me wince. But I quickly forget it. This time an earthquake hit Haiti, near my sponsored child, Olphine’s home.  And now it’s different. So if you pray, please pray for this sweet girl, her siblings and Mom.

Because although I have never met this kid, she’s captured my heart. I sponsor her trough an organization called Compassion. No matter what kind of day I’ve had, I look at her picture on my desk and smile because she’s okay and being cared for. And for the last few days I don’t know if she is okay.

Just hoping that Olphine and and her family are safe.

I’ve got tears streaming down my face because I’m ashamed that there’s been many times that people in parts of the world have been hit by a tragedy and I did barely more than read the news or donate a few dollars.

Etsy: Gathering Damask Items

We are creating a damask laundry room. We got a great deal on a super Samsung washer and dryer set. Although we planned to purchase a colored set, the white set was 1/2 price with warranties and delivery because we are members of Best Buy. We brought the special note to Best Buy and even the associate was happy for us to get such a great deal.

I checked out Etsy and I found the following items for our damask laundry room:

From the Head to Toe 2009 Etsy Shop:

Crossing Over

I had a strange dream and I can’t get it out of my mind.

There was clouds and light….a male figure said, “in order to cross over, you have to let yourself go and then you will be able to go.” In the dream I took a deep breath and then I woke up.

Freaked me out. I better get to living. :)

Expresso Pizza – I love you!

undefinedBrooklyn is known for great pizza. And many places will have you believe that they are “the original Brooklyn pizza.” Even Dominoes has tried to duplicate the Brooklyn pizza. Some pizza joints have even gotten outrageous and started charging $5 a slice or $30 a pie…..it’s bread, cheese and sauce..Crazy!But few places actually have done it. In fact, I’ve tried so many places just to recreate my childhood pizza.Expresso Pizza is this small pizza shop located at 9403 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge (718) 833-8750. The pizza here is like the pizza we ate as kids. The slices are delicious, the squares are even better. The owner is super nice too. Other people agree with me too.Of course, I also love that Roccos Pizza delivers super fast & I still love to sit outside of L&B Spumoni Gardens in the summer. But it’s Sunday night and I ordered Expresso pizza and it’s so good. Even the Lord would agree with me that Expresso Pizza is the best pizza. So if you want pizza the way it was when you were a kid in Brooklyn, visit Expresso Pizza.

Find Anyone Online Free

Find Anyone Online For Free!
Don’t you hate that there are so many sites online that say that they will allow you to find someone online for free, but aren’t really free? Yeah, me too. I am always able to locate anyone I am searching for using these free people search sites:

So here are the best sites to find someone online for free:

  • Pipl – there’s more info on here than most people would like
  • Peek You After you find a person, check on the right to see their family members

For years people used Anywho and Yahoo People Search, but these new sites have better search methods. Try them and find your missing friends, classmates and relatives.

Edit: Of course you can always use Facebook to check for relatives.

Lucky in 2009 ~ Keep it going in Oh Ten ~

Gotta get ready to ring in the new year, but I wanted to make a quick post.

I’ve had the best year of my life! I bought my dream home in Brooklyn, I was Teacher of the Year and I just found out that I won $500.00! Thank God for a great year. I am so grateful!
So I’m going to start 2010 the same way I started 2009. Someone told me about lucky foods for the new year and I figured it can’t hurt.

The lucky foods are: circular fruit (like grapes and oranges or grapefruits), black eyed peas, pork and sauerkraut.

We usually wake up late because of the partying from the night before so we eat fruit salad for breakfast because it’s always good to start the day with fruit (bananas, oranges, apples and grapes).

Pork and green vegetables are said to bring wealth if eaten on New Years Day. I have no idea why pigs symbolize progress, but I do understand that the green veggies represent money. Legumes (black-eyed peas or lentils) are also said to bring luck if eaten on the first day of the New Year. The small peas grow when they cook, so people’s money is suppose to grow as well. We make a pork and sauerkraut dish and have black eyed pea soup on the side.

Of course these are all just myths, but some people believe that there are certain foods that people should avoid on New Year’s Day. Most people love lobster, right? Since lobsters move backwards, they aren’t an ideal choice for New Year’s Day. Chicken are also to be avoided because it scratches backwards. I’ve even heard some older women say that birds that fly shouldn’t be eaten on New Year’s Day because your luck will fly away.

Lee says this has been his best year -> mentally, physically and spiritually too! He humors me by eating the lucky New Years foods. So maybe there is something about lucky New Year’s foods.

Happy New Year, Friends!

EDIT: Do not do laundry on New Years Day.

Cafe World Tips & Cheats

Cafe World is a semi-addicting game in FaceBook. The objective is to set up a cafe, feed your customers and keep a top rating of 105.

I managed to do well in the game using these tips:

1) Lock the waiters/waitresses into the center of your cafe. Don’t be afraid to put extra seats outside of the circle they are in. As you can see from the pic above, I have tables on the far right. Those customers get magically served and the tables get magically cleared.

2) Choose foods which take many hours. Those foods can also sit that many hours before they go bad. That’s why you will see many beginners cooking the turkey or the gingerbread houses.

3) If you have no food to serve, remove the doors to your cafe (YES, it’s strange, but it works) by clicking on the door and dragging it down to the bottom where the items are located until you have food again. If your cafe is open and customers come in when you have no food, your rating goes down.

4) You have to be in your cafe for your rating to go up. 105 is the highest.

5) Each table needs one chair, make sure that all tables and chairs are accessible or your score will go down.

6) You can get a lot more bonuses if you add more friends. If your friends don’t play cafe world, you can find some online through FB. Add yourself to the Cafe World FB pages. Just do a search for Cafe World and go to each page and become a fan. Then leave a message and tell everyone to add you.

If you play cafe world, you will see that some people are always serving food and you can’t figure out how they are serving so much and doing better than you. Well, they are probably using this cheat for Cafe World – Cafe World Bonus Checker. The Bonus Checker http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=217700022703&ref=nf will allow you to collect plenty of gifts that your friends have left but you probably missed. It’s a great way to get some backup dishes. To get to the Cafe World Bonus Checker: When you are in FB, do a search in the upprer right side for Cafe World Bonus Checker. When you see a bonus click on it once to claim the bonus, then close the window and go on to the next.

There is also this cheat for Yoville, Farmville, Mafia Wars and Farmville. To get to it go to the search area in the upper right side in Facebook and put Mafia Wars Bonus Checker or Farmville Bonus Checker or Yoville Bonus Checker.

I am looking for cheats Sorority Life and the Sorority Life Bonus Checker, but I haven’t found one yet. Sorority Life is actually a fantastic game, but I know there has to be better cheats and bonus checkers for that game as well because there is this chick named Starry who has like 5000+ votes everyday, while everyone else has barely 100. If you know where I can find this games cheats, let me know.

Pottery Barn 20% off everything in NY

Pottery Barn in Roosevelt Field Mall is Closing! I adore that store and was so sad to see the notice stating that the Rockville Location will be closing on January 11th.

Everything in the store is 20% off…which is kind of unheard of because it is hard to get a Pottery Barn discount code or coupon.

If you are a Pottery Barn credit card holder you get an additional 10% back (in coupons) but that doesn’t make it 30% off, more like a 25% discount if you were calculating.

Roosevelt Field Mall is at 630 Old Country Road Garden City, NY 11530

Open Mon-Sat 10am-9:30pm and Sun 11am-6pm
