Word of Mouth Influences People
One day I walked into Nine West in Brooklyn Heights. I asked to see a cute pair of shoes. The salesclerk went to the back of the store and came back with several boxes. She told me that they didn’t have my size in the shoe, but she brought me a larger size, as well as several other similar shoes in my size. I didn’t buy any shoes that day, but I told everyone I met about that employee and I took a moment to write a letter to commend her great service. Friends of mine went to the Montague Nine West during lunch just to see my girl. Then they told their friends about her as well. Maybe shoes were this salesperson’s passion or maybe she enjoys helping others, either way she created an atmosphere in which people want to be.
Often I find that people are just stuck at doing a job they don’t want to do. I get that it’s a recession and people need to work. Today, I was speaking to a customer representative about domain registration for another site. The company registered a site for 4 years, but didn’t leave the original contact information as the owner of the site. As a result, a domain transfer needed to be done. When a site is transfer, those years are lost and the money paid for them was wasted. If the original owner of the site was left as the admin all that would need to be done is a redirecting of the dns which would take a few minutes to complete. I tried to explain this to the associate, but she couldn’t understand and reexplained why the way her company does it was correct. I asked the associate what her title at the company was. When she told me she was in charge of sales, I understood why she couldn’t understand. Just as I can’t tell her how to raise the company’s sales by 51% next year, she couldn’t speak about domain registrations and transfers. The sales associate believed she could convince me that what her company was doing the right thing and couldn’t see why this situation wasn’t right. She didn’t seek help from a qualified tech person either. As a salesperson, she should have realized how important word of mouth is today. Word spreads fast when companies don’t do the right thing and that doesn’t improve sales. Why does it bother me so much? It’s paid for by a school and I feel school monies should be carefully spent.
I spoke with an associate at another company this week and his service was fantastic. After I hung up the phone with the associate, I got an e-mail asking about his service. I always answer those e-mails because I think that’s the way companies can really get a hold on how they are being represented and even more importantly, is there something they could have done better to help that customer.

I recently wrote a Citysearch review and how the negative review was removed from a Brooklyn business. That was followed of days of my mailbox being flooded by business owners asking me how to remove a listing. I understand that a company may need to remove a listing from a jealous competitor.
You can easily remove a listing from citysearch with the help of their editors as this one person wrote. But if that doesn’t work then maybe you need to listen to a few of these stories. First I am going to tell you how the business removed my listing and then I am going to tell you about two other businesses who were able to get rid of their negative reviews online.

We took a ride to Astoria to see Build It Green NYC. If you are a new homeowner or you are remodeling, you have to check this place out to purchase recycled building materials.
They had beautiful solid wood doors.
They also had recycled furniture, flooring, moldings, baseboards, cabinets, old stoves, appliances, sinks, lighting and other building materials.

I finally found eyeliner that stays on all day! I touch my eyes a lot because I have allergies so usually I wipe my eye makeup off before noon.
In 1997, I was young and stupid. I went to Eighth Avenue in Brooklyn and I got my eyelids tattooed. It looked great! A year later no one would have known I had it done because it wore off. Why didn’t I go back? Because the pain of getting the tattoo on my eyelids wasn’t worth it. I was more scared that the technician was going to make a mistake and cause me to go blind.
I’ve looked for great eyeliner and mascara for awhile now, but I finally found them:
Eyeliner: Styli-Style 24-Hour Power Line (around $6.00 CVS or Rite Aid drugstore) – I love it! It’s been over 100 degrees this summer and this eyeliner stays put!
Second place on eyeliner: Blinc Kiss Me liquid eyeliner – around $20 …but I don’t usually have the patience to do liquid early in the morning.
Eyeshadow: Anything as long as I smudge on Mac Paint Pot (color: painterly because it’s a neutral skin tone) ($16.50)
Second Place: Urban Decay Potion Primer (Sephora $14) and then put any eyeshadow over it.
Mascara: Estee Lauder Double Wear (About $20 at department store makeup counters) – it really does stay on

July 25, 2010Swing Arm Awning Fabric Replacement in Brooklyn
When we bought our house, we knew there was one problem that we would need to take care. Our engineer pointed out any little problem and he noted the dry, old fabric on the awning over the deck. I asked my neighbor who she used to replace the material on her swing arm awning over her deck. She told me she used National Awning 2088 Flatbush Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11234 (718) 253 – 0257.
The old, ripped awning:
We called around and stopped by a few shops in Brooklyn to check on prices for these swing arm awning covers. Many places wanted us to buy a new awning structure, but since we live near the water and the winds can become strong here, we really wanted to keep our old awning. The swing arm awning on the building is made out of steel; newer awnings are made out of aluminum. Finally, we called National Awning and left a message. Mr. K’s receptionist called me back and told me that Mr. K would come out and measure and give us a quote – no charge. On that day, I reminded Lee that we are just getting a quote and we will compare the quotes afterward.
Mr. K came out and gave us a quote. He is an older gentleman and we felt very comfortable talking with him. As soon as he walked in, Mr. K handed me the book of fabrics. Immediately I noticed he had two-sided fabric and he was a very pleasant man. When I am hiring someone to work in my home, I want to feel comfortable with them and I want them to explain what they are going to do in detail (fabric awning cover with the side pieces). Mr. K did just that. We choose a fabric for our awning and hired him. We wrote up the contract (I helped him) and we gave him a check for half. Mr. K told me my awning would be installed in two weeks.
The following week, Mr. K’s brother-in-law Richard stopped by to check the measurements. Richard has a ladder so he can get up there and check the measurements.
Exactly two weeks later, Richard and Todd (another younger family member) came to install the awning. Again, I felt very comfortable with this family-run business. They were hard working, pleasant and answered all my questions about the awning (yes I have questions about an awning).
If you need an scissor arm awning installed in Brooklyn, I highly recommend these men. If you have been in Brooklyn for many years, you will like the personal treatment that a family-run place delivers.

My credit card info was stolen by someone who made a purchase at http://www.wattrush.com $9.96 was spent. I have no idea on what, but I have found several other people who use a Bank of America credit card also had the same problem. I refuted the charges with Bank of America.
The deadbeats who own wattrush.com have only owned it since June 30, 2010:

Many other people had fraudulent charges from Wattrush on their account. They found this blog post and left comments which really helped me understand some things about how it may happened. Thank you to all those who left comments. I encourage others to leave them as well because Bank of America has been to this site several times now probably to investigate (I see it in my log).
At first I thought my credit card must have been compromised from a website whose security was lax. I used my card for items from Amazon.com, Max Makeup, Pottery Barn, JCPenney and Paypal. Some people used these sites as well, but most did not. One person reported that his wife never used that card online. I also have a linked google account, but most people I spoke with didn’t.
Then I thought I had a virus on my computer which may have caused it. I scanned with several programs -> Nothing. I spoke to another person who had fraudulent charges as well. He has a Mac and there are very few viruses a Mac can collect.
I only have two other explanations: The first -> A key logging program was installed on a computer I used and stole the card numbers. I couldn’t find any evidence of this. Then again, a person commented that their wife never used this card online so that sort of rules this one out.
The last explanation….PNC and Bank of America card holders are the only ones who experienced this theft. The banks joined forces to purchase Merill Lynch and may have related networks. I do believe this is a bank breach of computer security.
If anyone uses a different type of card, can you please leave a comment.
If I could figure out where the breach happened, I would put together a class action suit.
