George Anthony Get Back to Work

George and Cindy Anthony are still on my television as they appeared on 48 Hours Investigation Discovery tonight. It’s time for both of them to get back to work and living their life instead of living off the horrific story of their grand daughter’s death. Selling pictures of their family and continuing the interviews is tacky and in poor taste.

Caylee Anthony went through a long public trial and was found not guilty.

No one thinks Casey was completely innocent or completely believes that Caylee drowned in the swimming pool. But it’s done – a little girl is gone and no one was guilty for killing her. But it’s over – no one should be benefiting from a child’s death.

In my opinion, it’s terrible that any of the Anthony’s think it is okay to keep this story going with the media.

No, I Won’t Take off My Shoes

A lot of my friends have babies or toddlers. When people visit their home, they request their visitors to take off their shoes. I understand that they don’t want germs in their home, but asking guests to pile up their shoes at your entrance is not acceptable. No, I won’t take off my shoes anymore at ANYONE’S house ANY MORE. Every time I go to someone’s house and walk on their floors or carpets in my bare feet, I come home and my feet look like I have chicken pox. The red blotches stay with me like a party favor for the next two days. Dear friends, it isn’t that your floors aren’t clean, it’s that you use chemicals that I am allergic too.

Years ago,  people had more common sense and allowed guests to wear shoes in their home. There are germs everywhere – not just on shoes. When I was younger, there were always people trampling through my house with their shoes on. The germs that come from shoes obviously must not be significant enough to harm people because I had perfect attendance for four years in high school.

Two years ago, when Lee and I went house hunting, the owner of one home requested that we remove our shoes. I looked at him and told him I couldn’t because I had allergies and told him that I wouldn’t go in because he didn’t want people to wear shoes inside. I told Lee to check the place for me. The man politely invited me in with shoes because he said that he knew that I was thedecision maker. LOL.

I you want people to remove their shoes at your home, then you need to provide them a pair of socks or flip flops to protect their feet from your floor chemicals. That will also cover the funky feet of many of your  guests.

Heavy Earrings

I have never been able to wear heavy earrings. When I do, my ears hurt and the lobe looks stretched because I have weak ear lobes. I recently found this amazing product called Lobe Wonder that you stick on the back of your ear and it makes it possible for me to wear heavy earrings. So cool! Bring on the cute big earrings!

My Earring Wouldn’t Go In

This post is inspired by my closed earring hole and a pair of pretty earrings that I wanted to place in them!

When I was little, my mother wouldn’t let me get my ears pierced because she didn’t want me to get diseases and later when I complained as a teen, she said she didn’t want me to get AIDS.

Back then, people weren’t sure about what caused AIDS.

I didn’t care either as all I wanted was to have my ears pierced like everyone else. ‘

A friend of my mother’s won a gift certificate to a jewelry store and told me to take it to get my ears pierced. You see, everyone knew that I didn’t have my ears pierced and my mother’s friend had some sympathy for me.

So I got my ears pierced and they did it wrong. So I let the earring holes close up.

Then I got my ears re-pierced over and over……it turned out the first person didn’t do it wrong, but I have very sensitive ears and can’t wear certain metals. Each time I got my ears pierced, a bump would appear and it would make it impossible to put the earring in again. I must have had my ears pierced five times after the original one time. So no Mama, you don’t get diseases or AIDS from getting your ears pierced.

This winter, I wore a very cute pair of earrings which caused the same problem. The bump came and I didn’t wear earrings for awhile. This week I wanted to wear earrings. I couldn’t get it through. So I put alcohol on my ear, then Neosporin on my earring. I sat and twirled the earrring in the hole and then I decided to push it through. It hurt a tiny bit, but my hole opened up again. I cleaned it and put in my earrings – success! Even better… I’ve been wearing non-gold earrings and it seems that my ears are okay as long as I use the Neosporin on the posts before wearing the earrings.

My First Car – VW Thing

Tonight I was watching a show where a teen wanted a Volkswagon Thing. My first car was a VW Thing. It was sooo rusted. I was dating an auto mechanic and he told me that we could restore it. I found the car in the AutoSales paper and I was so excited because it was so cheap. I called the owner at 11:30pm on a Friday night to ask about the car. Even after he told me about the extent of the rust, I didn’t care. I told him we would be there in the morning. He told me not to come too early because I had woken him up (ooops).

So we bought the car and restored it. I loved it so much because no one had one and everyone thought it was cool that it was named ‘The Thing.’ My boyfriend at the time added a new convertible cover, worked on engine and on the body. It was a fun car!

Good times….and a past worth remembering :)

Laura Dotson

Dan Dotson, the regular auctioneer on the show, Storage Wars was sick so his wife Laura Dotson filled in. Laura was filled with charm and great side remarks. The participants seemed to

enjoy Laura’s auctioneer style as well. I hope Storage Wars gives Laura the chance to be an auctioneer sometimes too.

How much money does an auctioneer make? Laura said the total of the storage lockers was $2500 and that she made $600 for being both the auctioneer and the cashier,  and clerking so it looks like she made 20% for being the Storage Wars auctioneer.

Ron Clark Continues to Inspire

Every summer I look for an inspiring teacher book. Today I sat on the deck and started reading Clark’s new book, The End of Molasses Classes. I read Clark’s first boo k, The Essential 55 and I thought what else could he have to share? I thought the book would be redundant or include the same stories from the first book, but so far the book has had many new stories and it’s so good I don’t want to put it down. Clark retells successful stories of students excelling under his guidance.  I love how he believes in them and inspires them to follow their dreams. Ron Clark included pictures of his school, the Ron Clark Academy’s super slide and bungie trampoline. Of course I am jealous of the slide and bungie jumping right inside his school. I absolutely love that the school took the students to five different continents.

Clark’s new book doesn’t disappoint! It’s the perfect summer reading for a teacher. The summer is the perfect time for a teacher to get rejuvenated.

Awkward is So Amazing

MTV is finally featuring something funny, other than reality television and shows about teen moms. Awkward has only had two episodes, but it is very funny.  Jenna is a high school student who seems to have a lot of bad luck mixed with just enough sweet moments. She is an awkward teen, but tries to make the best of a bad situation. You can watch the first two episodes here if you missed them. Her use of technology, blogging and social networks gives this program a modern touch.

The only thing I don’t like about the show is the name because every teen online loves to say the word AwkWaRd.

Pretty Little Liars and Switched at Birth are still my summer shows.  Oh and when is Make It or Break It 3 starting. Did they start filming season 3 of Make it or Break It?

Best Coffee Ever

I absolutely love coffee. Not all coffee, but really strong, bold coffee. In my search for strong coffee, people have directed me to roasted blends. I

don’t usually like the roasted blends because they taste bitter.

Iced coffee at Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts is good, but when I drink hot coffee, I want strong, non-bitter coffee.

I found Green Mountain Coffee during a drive to PA and it’s good. I also like Maxwell House mixed with a few tablespoons of Illy.

Last week, I ordered Jim’s Organic Coffee Sweet Love Blend – ohhhh my summer love – so good.

Applause for the Shomrim in Borough Park

After the tragedy of  Leibby Kletzky, people are looking for answers or someone to blame. Yet, the men in Borough Park who form the Shomrim patrol, a volunteer civilian patrol should receive credit for the extensive search they did for Liebby. Shomrim is the Hebrew word for ‘guardian.’ The Shomrim in Borough Park are an exceptional group of people who really tried to take care of the community. On Tuesday night when we went out to look for Liebby, they had their neighborhood covered with hundreds of men.

On July 11th, when Leibby did not meet his mother, Este Kletsky went to the Shomrim patrol for help at 6:14 pm. The Shomrin called for backup, yet from what I read they didn’t call the police. The Shomrim have been known to respond faster than the police so people in this area contact them first when an emergency happens. Nachman Kletsky called the police around 8:30 pm. The Kletzky’s may have believed that the Shomrin called the police earlier. Some people are upset because the police weren’t contacted until hours later. Critics believe that a different outcome might have happened if the police were contacted right away by the Shomrin. Yet, Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly said a timely report would not have changed the outcome of this situation. For many years their system worked and this tight knit Brooklyn community was pretty safe. Now that they experienced a 9/11 type catastrophe, the Shomrin and community will need to establish a better emergency protocol.

Some say the men that are part of the Shomrin will not change and the people here won’t change. Of course they will, they are smart people and will do whatever they need to do to protect their families.   The rabbis will need to change as well because information needs to be shared fast.

Yet, this situation really isn’t about religion – it’s about children and keeping all children safe. The Shomrim apparently have a binder with the names and information of about 15 men who are suspected molesters or haven’t acted correctly in the past. This information is not being shared with the police because the rabbis have asked the people to go to the shomrin and the shomrim is suppose to handle it.  Some rabbis try to deal with child molesters in the community (by talking with the suspects and warning children to stay away from them), rather than with the police. I wish they would share it, but I understand as their world is so much different than ours.

Did the Shomrim know about Levi Aron before this situation? Some say that Levi Aron was reported to the Shomrim when he tried to have an 11 year old boy get into his car. Yet, the Shomrim deny knowing about Levi Aron and said he was not in their binder.

Incidently, I lived in Borough Park for over 10 years and I never heard of or saw the Shomrim. And although I never saw them, that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. While I was in Borough Park there were no robberies and the neighborhood was very safe.
