March 12, 2025Borough Park is Rallying Against the Homeless Shelter Planned for 50th Street
On Thursday, March 13th at 1:00 pm. Heshy Tishler is having a protest against the homeless shelter being set up on 50th Street and 10th Avenue in Borough Park. Tisler is also running for NYC Council.
This is for a family shelter (not a shelter for 150, like other parts of Brooklyn are receiving.

March 11, 2025Lifeguard Training & Summer Jobs for Teens 16+
To respond to the lifeguard shortage that has impacted New York City at large, the YMCA of Greater New York has launched a lifeguard training and certification course that is free for participants 16+ who can pass a pre-requisite swim test. (Register here for the qualifying test)
Here is a list of participating branches and upcoming sessions:
· Spring Break Session April 14th – April 18th (Pretest by March 29th) YMCA Locations: Rockaway Y, Prospect Park Y, Coney Island Y
· June Break Week: June 23rd – June 27th (Pretest by June 7th) YMCA Locations: Harlem Y, Vanderbilt Y, Prospect Park Y
Participants will receive a $550 stipend (given in two parts for eight week sessions) just for taking the class.
Additionally, those who successfully complete the course and receive certification will be eligible to apply to work at one of the YMCA’s 24 branches.
If hired, individuals will receive a $250 sign on bonus. If they stay with us for 3 months, they will receive an additional $250 bonus.
