UPDATE: Gas Line Rupture in Bay Ridge – 86th St. & Colonial Road
There was a large gas line rupture on 86th Street and Colonial Road to Ridge Blvd. All the homes were evacuated until they could take a reading in them.

Residents two blocks away said they have been hearing a loud whooshing sound like a waterfall since before 5:00 pm.
National Grid has been working in Bay Ridge – on 86th Street and 3rd Avenue all week. Ridgites shared that they received upgraded gas lines. Some smelt gas in their basement the next day. The home owners called National Grid. National Grid told them the new pipes were cracked and leaking gas and replaced the pipes.

Another home owner explained that the workers tightened the pipe too much and caused it to crack. National Grid sprayed a solution on it and the pipe was bubbling with gas coming out.
Many FDNY fire trucks are on the scene. Ridgites said they were nervous after they heard so many sirens. They closed 86th Street from Colonial Road to 3rd Avenue. Ridge Blvd from 85th to 87th Street is closed as well.

Update: The repair is being made. People are back at home. Some people on 87th Street complained that the smell is terrible.

April 25th – Bay Ridge Center is Accepting Unused or Expired Prescription Drugs
When I have expired medication, I bring the container to Walgreens and hand it to the pharmacist’s assistance. She always takes it.
In Bay Ridge, the collection is “an event” by a politician. On Friday, April 25th, they are accepting old medication at the Bay Ridge Center from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Bodega NYC at 9221 – 5th Avenue – Loud Music
Bodega NYC opened at 9221 – 5th Avenue. Lockyard used to be this location, until they quietly closed on March 7th. The new owner has no association to Lockyard.
Bodega NYC is requesting a liquor license from the SLA and Community Board 10 has to give their input. They are a bar/restaurant.
Yet it appears they are a club. On April 7th, complaints about noise at Bodega NYC. Josephine at CB 10 said there was social media posts with dancing loud, music and it looked like a club.
Community Board 10 read the complaints that Bay Ridge residents sent to them about late night noise from this club.
The neighbors of 9221 -5th Avenue were present. No one will want to live in a noisy area and property owners were concerned that they were going to lose their tenants.
One Bay Ridge resident said that Lockyard was very noisy. The backyard of bar has a cover so people can not see in. The recent noise level was high and worse.
After all the neighbors spoke, Community Board 10 noticed that the owner of Bodega NYC was present. He said that two people are putting in all the complaints – a husband and wife. He did not acknowledge any of the complaints by people who were present.
Community Board 10 did the right thing and made a motion to deny the applicant. No one wants an empty storefront there, but businesses have to be mindful of this area as there are many residents living nearby.

Street Naming for Mary Nolan – Sunday 4/27
On Sunday, April 27th at 10:00 am, 95th Street and 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge will be renamed after May Nolan.
There will be a party after the street naming to celebrate this great Irish woman at Irish Haven at 5721 – 4th Avenue from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm.

Mobile Barber in Bay Ridge – Cuts Hair in the Van

Lee would never go for this because he loves Joe the Barber (4th Avenue and 95th – he’s only there on Saturdays)
Anthony shared the photo of Taha’s van (above). And then someone else shared that he loves this barber and his van is very clean and sanitary.
The barber has great hair so that is a good sign!
Someone else shared that a haircut on the van is $40. (On his Instagram it says higher prices). He’s coming to you, so you have to pay for that service. Some people may love that there is no wait. Maybe this barber can make aa deal with mothers who have multiple sons?

Grand Sichuan House in Bay Ridge Closed
Grand Sichuan House at 8701 – 5th Avenue closed. They sold the restaurant a month ago. They have been closed for two weeks.
This is a well-loved place, so I am surprised they sold it.
The owner has another restaurant in Sunset Park. If I find out the address, I will share it here so you can still get your favorite Sichuan food.
