Dear Johnny Depp

Stick to acting Johnny; you make a very bad philosopher.

When I was growing up, Johnny Depp was an actor that many teen girls loved. He’s still an actor, but I see he also thinks he is a philosopher:

Tears just mean that someone is sad…..they don’t tell the strength of a person.

Why I Love Valentine’s Day

A lot of people love Valentine’s Day because it is a romantic holiday. Many people enjoy the hearts and romantic cards that couples exchange. I actually don’t like the Hallmark version of the holiday.

For Lee and I, Valentine’s Day became a day to gift each other with great  technology. 8D  And everyone knows I love technology!  After Christmas, the price on electronics always falls and it’s a great time to purchase technology!

I haven’t decided what I would like, but Lee has been entertaining me with his talk about getting a tablet. Lee’s job has made him someone who loves technology by providing new gadgets all the time. So I’ll be tablet hunting this week – I think it is between the Samsung tablet and the ipad. We eliminated the google tablet because although it is small, it lacks a lot of features.

Nev Shulman’s Feet

Nev Shulman is one of the creators of the television show, Catfish. The concept of the show is that Nev and Max bring together people who have met online, but who have never met in person. The result of the meeting usually is very dramatic so it makes for a good show.

EXCEPT NEV KEEPS PICKING HIS FEET…..this isn’t the first time I have seen him pick his feet. And watch what happens after he picks his feet – ewwwww. Now maybe he doens’t know he is picking them, but MTV producers must see him tossing his toes in the air. Why don’t they edit it out?

Unexpected

It was a long weekend.

Lee’s aunt passed away. I didn’t know her well, but I liked her a lot.  Lee’s Mom passed away several months after Lee and I started dating. His Dad has been dead since Lee was 8 years old.  I met Lee’s aunt about a year after we started dating and things had become serious. I remember her southern charm and the kind words she spoke to me about Leon and their family. In the moments that I got to know her, I really liked her, not only because she was Lee’s aunt, but because she was a wise woman who knew how important her words were.

Lee’s aunt and uncle were married 61 years. His uncle is a gentleman and was deeply in love with his wife even after many years. So if you have a minute, please say a prayer for him as her passing wasn’t expected and I am sure his world feels like it was turned upside down.

Planning a Party

Lee is hitting a major birthday this year. And I get to plan his party. Yup a surprise party that at some point he told me he doesn’t want.

But here’s the thing Lee doesn’t realize…..eight people have called, asked or written and asked, “When is Lee’s party?”  You see no one would even think that he wouldn’t have a party because he has given so many parties.  I am just going to pretend that I didn’t remember that he said he didn’t want a party.

So let the party planning begin for my sweetie. Got ideas – please share. Colors: Grey and aqua or Purplish blue and hot green? Yes, colors need to be decided.

When Organizing Isn’t Innate

I love things organized. But the truth is that I know very little about organizing.

When I was a kid,  I think people had a lot less stuff than they do now. I never learned how to organize my stuff, even though I am sure my mother reminded me to put stuff away. Maybe I just had a mental block on where the stuff goes.

Anyway, this is what I know now -> If you have stuff, you have to buy other stuff to organize it. So for Christmas, I asked Lee to buy me some really cool organizing stuff. I know it doesn’t sound cool and may actually sound a bit boring, but it’s cool when your drawer looks like this:

Home Refinanced Complete

Lee and I applied for our home refinancing in September. It was completed this week. Is it worth it to refinance – ABSOLUTELY because interest rates are so low and the difference in the mortgage is huge. So if you haven’t refinanced your mortgage – head to the bank and ask them to run the numbers for you.

I Support People’s Rights to Own Weapons

Yes I wrote that title.  And I stand by it.  Even in the wake of Sandy Hook, I don’t believe that a full ban on weapons is a solution.

The problem in Sandy Hook was caused by an individual with mental illness who had access to very powerful guns.

We have a constitutional right to own weapons. This right exists for a reason. Some people need weapons because they don’t feel safe in their home without one. Melinda Herman in Atlanta, George  needed a gun to protect herself and her children from an intruder. (Read more here) If Melinda Herman did not have access to a gun, she would be dead.

Many people want to make it more difficult for someone to get a gun.  People who legally try to obtain a gun may have a longer process, but that doesn’t stop those who want to purchase guns through other outlets.

Would a limit on the type of weapons that can be sold help? It may help limiting access to many people, but ultimately someone will find a dealer on eBay or somewhere else on the web to get the weapon they desire. And what about the weapons that are already out there on the street?

Ultimately, the real problem still remains – mental illness that isn’t being taken care of because many people don’t have access to medicine and professionals due to lack of insurance and money.

There has to be a middle ground and a solution on the guns issue somewhere .

Yup – deep thoughts before bed.
