Why I Love My Job

There’s many reasons I love my job, but let me share with you the first half hour of my day.

I walked into school and saw my boss – the principal. We talked about technology for five minutes and I was so happy after leaving him because he really understands what the school needs and he is fantastic about getting the students the best of everything – not the most expensive, but the best.

I walked up the steps to my classroom and I felt invigorated from a five minute conversation about new technology.

First period, I had a meeting with my Assistant Principal. It was about the new standards. She is an awesome woman and I left her office feeling supported. This is just another reason why I love my job.

I taught all day with such a great spirit. I did some work that I had been procrastinating on with a smail and then I left the school feeling like it was a wonderful day.

Yeah bring me more days like today!

Fantastic Weekend – Let’s Do It Again

I am so happy. This weekend was AMAZZZZINNNGGGG.  Log in if you want to see this weeks pics.

I love this weather. And I loved seeing everyone this weekend at the Fair.  It was great to see so many friends and old students run the Chris Hoban Memorial Run on Sunday. (Chris Hoban was an undercover narcotics police officer who died in duty in 1988 at the age of 26).

And I am too tired to write any more, but I wanted you guys to see the pics. :)

Matthew Cordle

Matthew Cordle confessed to drunk driving. It is probably one of the most moving videos I have seen. He didn’t take the easy route because doing so would say that Vincent Canzani’s life didn’t matter.

I’ve been in a car twice with a drunk driver. Once as a child and once as a young woman. As a child I had no control over the situation. An accident resulted, but I was too small to remember what happened. I won’t write what I was told happened because it’s not good to retell a story online.

As a young woman in my twenties, I got into a car with an inebriated driver. It was the scariest ride of my life. I put my own life at risk and I didn’t stop someone else from driving either. I KNEW BETTER and I am lucky that person didn’t kill me or anyone else. Not one of my proudest moments. After that, I never stepped into a car with someone who even had one drink. People are valuable.

It’s the Night Before School Starts….

And my laminator is cranking out some beautiful paper with the names of my new students.

So now that you are here at my blog, I have a request for you (Yes YOU). Please pray for me – pray that I say the right words to these sweet children. Pray that I teach them well and pray that I help them along the road of life to do whatever their heart desires. Pray that I give them what they need so they feel supported and loved.

I’m going to bed because tomorrow I will meet the new movers and shakers of the world!

Pottery Barn Friends and Family Sale 2013

When is Pottery Barns Friends and Family Sale 2013 this year? It’s always the second week of October from Thursday to Sunday. So this year the sale will be from October 10th to October 13th. Everything in stock is on sale, but if you need an item that isn’t available at your store, call another store because they may have it. Or do what I did last year – I contacted their Facebook page (message them – don’t post it on their page) and told them the dresser I needed wasn’t available at my store. Sure enough, they had it at their store! The FB moderators are quite nice.

Every year, we buy furniture from Pottery Barn’s friends and family sale. Our house is almost completely furnished and we just need some small pieces this year!

Here’s what we bought from the previous years PB F&F sales

2009 – Bedford corner desk setup, Rhys living room set and Hudson bedside tables and dresser
2010 – Another dresser and dining room
2011 – (We missed the 2011 sale as their was a death in our family that weekend). We did get some pots from Williams Sonoma
2012 – Bedford file cabinet, bookcase, Hudson mirror and the tall dresser
2013 – I think we are purchasing bookcases, drapes and a rug this year.

Mark your calendars so you don’t miss Pottery Barns Friends and Family deals 2013. This works at PB Teen, PB Baby and Williams Sonoma as well.

I have not received  a Postcard this year as I have in the past.  I called the store today and they said the postcards went out over the weekend, but if you don’t get one just come in.

On Cooking

At our casa, I don’t usually cook. Why? Because Lee is a former chef at a restaurant and can whip up anything easily. He cooks and cleans the pots, stove, counter, etc. as soon as he is done. Yes, he is that amazing. I haven’t cooked a main meal all summer because either Lee cooks inside or outside on the grill while I make side dishes and set the table.

I do have a few good recipes that I do cook when I cook. Lee always likes what I cook, but I didn’t realize he loved my cooking. Yesterday, when I got home from school yesterday, Lee told me he bought pork chops. I don’t love pork chops, nor do I hate pork chops – they are just okay. Today Lee told me that he bought pork chops so I could make my famous pork chop recipe. Friends, I had no idea he loved my pork chops. So I marinated the pork chops this afternoon, threw them into the oven tonight and a very happy man went off to work.

Yup I am the pork chop masterrrrrrrrr. Now you are probably wondering what recipe I used to make these terrific pork chops…..yeah I can’t share that because it was sooooooooooooooooo easy and if you told Lee that I didn’t do much to make these incredible pork chops, it would ruin his meal.

A New Year

I am writing this on 9/2/13 at 11:49 pm and it feels like New Years Eve. It’s really the night before a a fresh new school year is about to begin for this teacher. Although the students don’t return until next week, we start preparing the classrooms tomorrow.

Summer was amazing. I loved spending my time with our family and friends on the back deck and taking a lot of mini vacations. I have a lot of new laugh lines so I know it was a good summer.

One of the best things this summer was learning so many new things. Every summer I read a few new books about teaching, but this summer I really immersed myself into learning with a community of teachers. This September, I will be beginning my 20th year teaching. It was time to refresh and recharge. I want to thank all of the teachers who taught me, inspired me and allowed me to renew my passion. Some of the best things I learned were from young women and men who have only been teaching 3 or 4 years. Why? Because there is always something to be learned!

I thank God for giving me such a wonderful purpose in life. How many people can say they love their job after twenty years (19 for me)? Not many.

It’s two minutes to 12:00 am. – Cheers – Here’s to teaching like a pirate and having a fun school year!
