Stabbing Outside the Lief Bar in Bay Ridge
A 25 year old Bay Ridge resident (named Jaba Molashkhia I found out this morning) was at the Lief on Saturday and left the bar. He returned after 4 AM and tried to get in the bar.
The guy (Molashkhia) yelled at some guys and then pulled out and staffed four men in their 20’s (tha’ts what I was told).
The Daily News reported that Molashkhia was arrested and the 4 stabbed men went to Lutheran hospital

December 11, 2015Star Wars Christmas Display – Dyker Heights Brooklyn
I saw Gothamist’s feed with the Star Wars Christmas Display in Dyker Heights and I knew I had to find it. I did a search on google for What street is the Star Wars Christmas display in Dyker Heights? and couldn’t find anything. Until I went and found the home of the Star Wars lovers. I am not going to publish their address because they may not want it on the web, but the home is on 85th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues and it is open from 7 p.m. – 12 am.
The huge collection can be viewed up close only by real Star Wars fans.

December 10, 2015Dogs Make Life Great
When I was a kid, my family had two amazing dogs. Both of them were mutts.
Barney was bought the year I was born. My brother, Colin was dying from cancer and my Dad bought Barnabas Collins (named after a vampire on the television show Dark Shadows) to bring him some joy. My brother passed that year, but his dog lived with us for 13 year more years.
When Barney died, we got Max. Max was my boy. My brothers had grown up and were always at work, so Max look forward to me getting home from school. I remember taking this picture of Max with a Le Click disc camera Not bad for a pink teenage camera and a German shepard mutt.
I came across some photos of him and I smiled at all the great memories I had with this dog.
This is Max when he grew up. The picnic table is at my family’s home in Long Island. It’s March or April in the photo because the shrubs are bare and there’s no lawn furniture around. Under the picnic table is a pot. Max would chew up his dog bowl so we had to give him a pot to eat his food. Both of these dogs lived long lives because my mother fed them people food (meat, eggs and bread) – no dog food. Neither had any illnesses and died from old age. Max was over 16 when he died.
Good dog – good memories.

December 9, 2015Death Calls
The phone rings and I know before I pick up the phone that someone has died. I can just feel it. A guardian angel must tip me off because how else would I know?
My friend George used to like to talk about who died. But not me.
Death hits me at the core.
Especially when it’s someone young.
And when they have small children.
And their life looks unfinished.
And it really hurts when a grandfather has to bury his grandson.
RIP Ryan.

December 6, 2015Dyker Heights Christmas Lights 2015
Everyone always asks “What’s the best blocks to see lights in Dyker Heights?” or Where should I go in Dyker Height to see the Christmas lights? 84th Street between 11th and 12th Avenues is the best block. Twelfth Avenue is the best Avenue for lights, but go as far down to 14th Avenue and 75th Street to see the giant Santa. The houses everyone really love loves is the Polizzotto’s at 1145- 84th Street and the Spata home at 1152 – 84th Street. Here’s the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights community on Facebook.
Dyker Heights doesn’t look as well lit for Christmas as usual. There are still many decorated homes, but some seem to be missing as well. I guess more people moved away.
I love this house that is located on 14th Avenue and 72nd Street – you turn your radio on and the watch the blinking lights.
Stop in front and see all the houses and the koi fish swimming underneath too.

December 2, 2015Swedish Foods – Bay Ridge – After Norwegian Store Closed
If you are doing a traditional Swedish Christmas dinner, you will find that it is harder to find the items you need in Bay Ridge because the Norwegian Store on 3rd Avenue closed this year.
If you are looking for lingonberries, glogg, the hard bread, pickled herring – you can find those things in Brooklyn – not Bay Ridge, but it’s a 10 minute ride to Ikea located at 1 Beard Streed
They sell Pickled herring in the Russian store on 87th Street and 3rd Avenue.

November 30, 2015Marty Golden ->Shop Local – Christmas Ornaments and Light Are Sold in Bay Ridge Senator!
I saw your staff posted a picture shopping for Christmas ornaments in Home Depot. I have nothing against the Big Box Store and go there often for lumber or supplies that our neighborhood doesn’t have. Yes, I notice the orange shelving and signs. Why couldn’t you have asked them to use my tax dollars to shop locally? Stores in Bay Ridge that could have benefited from the support, Mr. Golden.
These stores in Bay Ridge sell Christmas decorations and lights and Marty denied them the sale:
Ace Hardware – 8111 5th Avenue
Classic Impressions – 9008 3rd Avenue
D2 – 8701 4th Avenue
Polsteins Hardware – 7615 13th Ave
Well now we know the answer to the question – how many Golden staffers does it take to purchase some lights and tree ornaments? THREE (two to pose and one to hold the camera). If you shopped locally, it would have taken one. If they used our tax dollars better, they could have supported a Bay Ridge business! I guess Golden doesn’t know this:

Outside of Brooklyn:
In Queens on December 6th is The Little North Pole
Gone – home not decorated at all this year – either it was sold or there was death in the family. There was an amazing house in Dyker Heights – 74th Street 15th and 16th Avenue. A man syncronized his holiday lights to music. You put on the music in your car and you watch his house – it’s amazing. Look at the video below (the music is from the car radio – not the house). In Staten Island someone did the same thing.
