How We Ended 2015 – We Went to Gargiulo’s Restaurant!

I had never been to Gargiulo’s, but I had heard about their amazing food for years! Recently a friend picked up trays of food from Gargiulo’s for a Christmas party and it reminded me to go!  We went for dinner last night and found both the food and service were outstanding!  I love this place!

From the outside it looks like a regular catering hall in Coney Island. Inside it is beautiful, especially since the room was decorated for Christmas with garland and giant red ribbons. A Santa and large soldiers adorn the foyer area of Gargiulo’s.

I ordered the seafood risotto – OMG it was so good. The risotto was creamy and delicious. Clams and mussels surrounded it, while shrimp, calamari and scallops covered the risotto. It was fantastic. The fish was so tender and flavorful, especially the shrimp and mussels. It came with a potato croquette. I usually put pepper on hot food . I didn’t even reach for the pepper and realized afterwards that I didn’t use pepper because the food was seasoned well (below).

Lee had the veal marsala which was served with a plate of mixed vegetables. Lee is a former restaurant chef and thinks he makes the best veal marsala, so he hardly ever orders it. After eating Gargiulo’s veal marsala, he said it was fantastic and he would order it again!  He ordered spinach and a huge plate of spinach cooked with garlic and oil was brought to the table.

Lee’s mixed vegetables came with the veal marsala. He also ordered spinach (look at the huge plate they gave him).

Across the street from Gargiulo’s is a large parking lot with an attendant which is fantastic, especially for a weekday evening. As we were leaving Gargiulo’s, Lee said that we will be returning with our extended family in the Spring because he wanted them to see Gargiulo’s as well!

2015 Was An Amazing Year!

2015 was the most amazing year of my life. MAGICAL really.

I am thankful to God for life, people who love me and opportunities I couldn’t even imagine for myself.

Christmas After Someone Dies

I ran into an old friend today. We chit-chatted a bit and she had a lot of good news to share.

When I walked away, I reached in my pocket to get my phone to call another old friend. I dialed his number and then hung up………because I realized he died last month. I always reached for my phone when I had good news because he liked to hear about it.

Normally when peopleI know have died, I would talk to other people who I know about that person. Yet, I’m not friends with any of his friends. So I just miss him alone.

We were friends for so long and his death was unexpected. I wish I could just fast forward past the crying and missing part and get to the part where I just remember the good memories and the laughter.

And I just don’t feel like celebrating Christmas

I don’t like cats too much, but this guy has grown on me and sits on the top of my computer chair. He’s kinda cool.

Stop Living in Sin, Bay Ridge

The Catholic Church, specifically St. Patricks Church located on 95th and 4th Avenue is having something different for all of you living in sin. (Hey no judgment for me, I don’t care if you live in sin).

St. Patrick’s Church will have a group wedding ceremony for couples who are civilly married or who are living together, but would like to be married. The Twin Hearts Ministry is holding this occasion on
June 4, 2015 at 3 PM because that date takes place between two feats – Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary (that’s June 3rd and 4th) (see the two above in the picture).

This is info from another church about the Twin Hearts Ministry. I don’t know if this is what St. Patrick’s is following, I just wanted to see what the Twin Hearts Ministry was about.

Pope Francis officiated at a similiar group wedding, some were co-habitating.  St. Francis is into stopping the finger-pointing and focusing on what is important – marriage and family.

Fried Ice Cream and Fried Yogurt in Bay Ridge

A friend of mine ordered fried ice cream from  the new place, 91 Fried Ice Yogurt in Bay Ridge.  It’s at 9119 – 3rd Avenue and replaced the Sweetie Yogurt Shop.

When you hear the words Fried Ice Cream or Fried Yogurt, it sounds like an unhealthy deep fried dessert, but the process actually lowers the ice creams temp to 10 below 0 degrees.

He ordered the cookies and cream fried ice cream. He said it was cool to watch them make it.

The ice cream is at 10 degrees below zero and my friend told me that it melts fast.

Nicole Malliotakis Remains Silent When Republicans Do the Wrong Thing

Immediately  after Democrat, Shelly Silver was sentenced, Malliotakis raced to Twitter and Facebook to post about it.

The following day, she quoted Teddy Roosefelt and tried to sound like she has always been against corruption and politicians who do the wrong thing.  Yet why hasn’t Nicole Malliotakis spoke out against Dean Skelos’ corruption? Is she afraid to speak out and upset the Republican Party? What would cause her to remain silent once again?

This is not the first time Nicole Malliotakis has remained silent when a Republican has done the wrong thing  in Brooklyn or  Albany.

• When Michael Grimm ran for for office with a  a 20 count federal indictment , Nicole Malliotakis still stood by his side. The following month.  Grimm made a plea deal and then wouldn’t leave office. During the election, Grimm told us he was not guilty on any of these charges and  right after winning he admitted his guilt. Did Malliotakis speak up and say anything to the newspapers or online? NOPE she sat in silence.  Not all Republicans supported Grimm, yet the ones in our area didn’t speak out against this. In fact,  Dan Donovan admitted  to voting for Grimm and Senator Golden fundraised for Grimm.  Thankfully Jon Boehner had a meeting with Grimm and Grimm resigned. Grimm was sentenced to 8 months in prison and is sitting in a cell this Christmas because he is a criminal.

Malliotakis looked happy to be standing next to the 20 count indicted Congressman. 

The special election to replace Grimm (and another assemblyman who stepped down to take another position) cost NYC over a million dollars. There was talk about a special election being needed for months before the election!

• • When Marty Golden and Assemblyman Keith Wright (backed by Shelly Silver) introduced a bill to get huge tax breaks for developers in Manhattan under the 421-a tax abatement program, Nicole Malliotakis remained silent. She did not publically object to the fact that Golden’s bill would give five luxury housing developments a tax break that they were not eligible for. One57 and the “billionaire’s tower” on West 57th Street were included

 Malliotakis didn’t speak out about it, but did she have to vote with them?

After the bill passed, Keith Wright claimed he had no idea what Shelly Silver put in the bill. Wright said he was instructed by Silver.

Why didn’t  Nicole Malliotakis didn’t know what was going on? Didn’t she see Shelly Silver’s name as the co-sponsor?  She knew this was the type of bill Shelly Silver was behind because she had seen it before in 2011.   In 2011, Vito Lopez introduced bill A8518 (co-sponsored by Shelly Silver) and Dean Skelos carried the bill S5856 in the senate.  NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS VOTED IN FAVOR OF IT.

Whenever you see something written about Nicole Malliotakis in the newspaper, it always contains a part of her bio that says: “her mother is a Cuban exile of the Castro dictatorship.”  Malliotakis’ mother lived in a time when people were forced to be silent under Castro. Yet, there is no reason for Nicole Malliotakis to remain silent when Republicans are involved in corruption!  She is not serving the people of Staten Island or Bay Ridge well.   Who is her silence benefiting?

If Malliotakis wants to talk about corruption – then let’s discuss all of the corruption, not just that from one party. Because if we are only discussing the problems in one party, are we really weeding out corruption?  If Malliotakis wants to be a corruption buster, she’s going to have to produce a real bill which puts term limits on the Assembly and Senate.
