Remembering NY’s Finest, PO Chris Hoban

p-o-_christopher_hoban

I was a teenager when Officer Hoban was killed in 1988.  His funeral was held at my church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and I remember it being a dreary and windy day. The streets around the church were packed as  hundreds of people attended it and hundreds of police officers attended the funeral. (click there to see an old picture).

After the mass, I remember my Mother being upset over Officer Hoban’s death and saying, “If someone kills a police officer, they should receive the death penalty.”  I had never heard my Mother speak about the death penalty or anyone deserving to die before this.

Twenty-eight years later, Officer Hoban is still remembered each year in Bay Ridge on the third Sunday in September.  The Chris Hoban Run is held in his honor and starts at Xaverian High School. The weather is always an amazing mix of a warm Summer day with a touch of Autumn breeze.  Although the circumstances surrounding the day are sad, the event is not.  It’s a day  in which a local hero is honored by his community. Although many of the kids running didn’t know Officer Hoban, they understand why his life is being celebrated (that in itself is important to teach young people in a community).  It’s a real spirited Bay Ridge event!

Jumaane Williams – Nothing Happens When You Sit Around

juumane-williams-pledge

People have been sitting for the pledge for years.  In America, you have the right to do as you please.  And your protest is just a moment in time that no one will remember. I didn’t hear about this on the news until days after it happened.

While sitting on turf was all Colin Kaepernick could do to shine light on the problem, that’s not all Jumaane Williams can do. After sitting in City Hall, Williams sat around and wrote a press release piece explaining his actions.  JUMAANE WILLIAMS COULD HAVE PENNED A BILL TO CHANGE THE LAW and started a change in the world.  Apparently that’s too hard so he took the easy route and threw us some press release politics.

SMH.

Nothing gets done when lawmakers sit around, especially when they sit around and write articles for the press. Elected official’s have a responsibility to change the laws that allow injustice to happen. Maybe Kaepernick needs to throw Williams a pen and  hold up a sign saying: “Jumaane Take It From Here.”   Kaepernick put the message out there and Williams completely missed his call to action.

Also sitting around this week was Senator Jamilah Nasheed of Missouri, but I only heard about it today because when everyone is sitting around, it’s no longer news.

I won’t sit during the pledge because this week there are 450 more men and women half my age holding guns and risking their lives in Iraq. There are off duty police officers responding to violent acts so NY’ers don’t get hurt. How do you have the time to sit and write about your personal protest when there is so much your position could accomplish?

I protest Jumaane Williams sitting at a table in City Hall when he was elected to represent a community, who had NO IDEA he wasn’t going to be proactive and  pass laws to stop injustice!

Proof Bob Capano Has No Clue What’s Going on in Bay Ridge

Bob Capano

Bob Capano can make all the claims he wants about being part of  Bay Ridge.

But…..HE DOESN’T REALLY LIVE HERE OR KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON.

If he did, we would have seen him releasing cheesy press releases all over the place.  Nope – Paula Katinas doesn’t have the story and neither does the Brooklyn Independent Fountainhead. Bensonhurst Bean?  Kings Country Politics – Nope.

Capano pretends he knows about Bay Ridge but he is clueless!  :P

Someone Capano claims not to like ran for a small office this week (look at the card carefully). HE WOULD HAVE GONE CRAZY WITH PRESS RELEASES IF HE HAD KNOWN! The man is grasps at any little bit of information he can about this woman, but  Capano didn’t say a word about her being on the ballot because he didn’t know about it. WHY? Because he isn’t part of bay Ridge.

Here are the results

Again, if Capano knew about her being in the election, he would have wiped the floor with her loss.

Instead,  Capano is silent because he hasn’t got a clue what’s going on in Bay Ridge!  Shhh blog readers – don’t tell him. He’ll just be late to the party saying anything now.  LOL

Bay Ridge Didn’t Want Mark Treyger or Pam Harris

I went to sleep on Tuesday night and thought, “Could Bay Ridge not have seen how amazing Chris McCreight is? Did they not feel his passion to fight corruption?”

NOOOOO WAY!  Voters saw it and voted for McCreight throughout Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights. They recognized that he’s one of the good guys and he won in our areas! Why is that important? Because Treyger issued a press release that 30 people supported him and this election shows that those people don’t have any influence in our community.

Kate Cucco also won in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights!

The Brooklyn Reporter published this about Cucco winning our area:

Although Harris and Treyger had more voters come out for them in Coney Island  and Bath Beach, THEY LOST  BOTH BAY RIDGE and DYKER HEIGHTS.  The Bay Ridge Democrats and Vinnie Gentile supported McCreight. The new Muslim Democratic Club MDCNY wanted Harris and Democrats for Change social club wanted Harris and Treyger to win. I think support  from these clubs was more for their own club members to be supported, rather than for Bay Ridge’s benefit because who the heck wants an Assemblywoman who doesn’t do anything?

Here is the map where you can find the breakdown of the district if you don’t know your section.

I don’t care if you aren’t supposed to talk about the results of an election. I’m talking about them because Treyger wasn’t a gracious winner today. As the new District Leader , Treyger could have reached out and said he was interested in working with McCreight – especially after seeing McCreight won Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights. He couldn’t do that because he doesn’t know how to do the right thing and be a gentleman (or as Lee said – just be a decent person). EVEN MARTY GOLDEN WAS A GRACIOUS WINNER WHEN HE WON.

Bay Ridge saw the truth. More importantly, Bay Ridge is filled with people who want politicians who aren’t corrupt.  We live in a gerrymandered district and get the short end of the stick because our neighborhood was divided in half and tossed with other neighborhoods.

The truth is out there, even if Treyger can’t say it or put it in a press release.

How Did Some Dishonest Politicians Win An Election? FEAR

How could so many people ignore the corrupt politics of Mark Treyger?

FEAR……Fear on Russian radio moved many to vote. Russian radio is the old skool version of social media. This was said to me by a wise young man in the days before the election: “Anyone under 70, would just laugh at what was said on Russian radio, but that’s how they are winning.”

Treyger is a fearful man. He purchased a home in a gated community. He knows how to evoke fear in older people……on Russian radio. We heard Treyger’s fear when he spoke with  Cats on the radio.

I would say Harris is corrupt, but she’s just a pawn in their plan. Even if they laid it out right in front of her, she wouldn’t understand it. Didn’t she see that hardly anyone who said they were supporting her barely even spoke about it?  Harris is too busy covering her own lies to notice what is going on.   Stephen Witt of Kings County Politics has seen this before.  Witt wrote the most telling article about Harris AS HER FRIEND. With friends like that, who needs enemies? Harris didn’t even pick up on that!

This election just showed us………Don’t look too close Brooklyn……corruption runs deep in this city.

The only winners in Coney Island last night were the developers and commercial property owners. What happened in Downtown Brooklyn will happen in Coney Island – it’s already begun.

To Chris McCreight – thank you for running. You are a reminder to me that there are good people in the world who want to do the right thing for everyone.

Mark Treyger – Typical Politician

mark-treyger

Maybe Mark Treyger started out as a politician who was going to help people, but if you look at what he’s doing in Coney Island, he shouldn’t be a Councilman.

Bay Ridge on 9/11/2001

bayridge-911

The towers were hit early in the morning. I was at school with my students when it happened. Immediately, parents flooded the school to pick up their children. Within an hour the school was 3/4 empty.  As I walked home from school, I started calling my friends who worked in the city. Many people were using their phones, that I couldn’t get a signal.

My best friend worked in the World Trade Center area, but not in the towers. I continued to call her, but I wasn’t able to reach her for several hours. We were friends from high school and rented a house in Borough Park. We were the type of friends who called each other every five minutes, so I knew something was wrong. Four hours after the towers were hit, she walked through the front door. Her business suit was dusty, her shoes were wrecked and she looked like she had been through a fire. She was running late that morning and when she arrived in the city, the first tower had been hit. She turned around to go back on the train and there was no train, so she walked over the bridge and walked home from Manhattan.

After she told me about her ordeal walking home, she showered and asked me to go to Century’s on 86th Street because she ruined her shoes and wouldn’t be able to wear them to work the following day. (Later we found out that there would be no work for anyone the following day). We drove to 86th Street and it looked like a ghost town. Some stores left on their lights, but they were all closed. There was only 3 other people on 86th Street with us. There were no cars racing back and forth on the strip because everyone was home.

We drove across 5th Avenue from 86th to 60th Street and saw no more than 8-10 people. Small deli’s, pizza shops and stores were all closed. People were home with their families.

15 Years – We Won’t Forget

The names of the 373 firefighter heroes who died on 9/11/01.

Fifteen years ago, the man in the video was my student. His father was a fireman who died trying to save people in 9/11.  It’s good to see he did well in his own life and he’s out there doing good for others too.
