Hatchimals – The Christmas Toy of the Year

hatchimal-bay-ridge-brooklyn-stores-to-buy-a-hatchimal

Two questions to the blog today about Hatchimals:  Where can I get a Hatchimal in Brooklyn?

I thought it would be easy to find one of these animals in an egg, but it looks like there is a monopoly on them and people are selling them for around $200. Hatchimals are usually priced at $49.99 – $65, but it’s like resellers grabbed them all and jacked the prices up!

Update: 12/2/16: Toys R Us Stores are each getting 150-200 Hatchimals in and will sell them Saturday morning – get there at opening.

The toy comes in the egg and when a child plays with it for a half an hour, the egg opens and there is an animal to play with.

Target in Brooklyn doesn’t have them, but some Targets in the Bronx and Long Island do have them (click on one of them and choose – check other stores)

$140 is the cheapest on Ebay   –  Be careful about purchasing from small places as there are a lot of counterfeit hatchimals now as well.

I even checked some local small stores to see if they have a secret stash and they don’t have any.

Clever Bay Ridge Businesses

I love this article in the Wall Street Journal on how four businesses are sharing one store front at 7709 – 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge.

Very clever business people!

The four businesses are:

  • A custom embroidery shop – S&D Sports & Outdoor Supply, (718) 921-9100 – everyone is always looking for this shop because they want to get sport shirt embroided with with names.
  • Brooklyn Art – A frame shop – they also stretch canvas in one day (718) 745-7734
  • Health-insurance brokerage
  • A GPS dealer

Also loving the news on the Brooklyn Firefly Restaurant! Another article: here

Mr. Abbate – Don’t Run for City Council to Pad Your Paycheck

I keep seeing stories of Assemblyman Peter Abbate thinking of running for NYC Council in my area.

FOR WHAT?  Money of course. Today, November 14th, it was announced that the Assembly was going to get a raise.

Abbate can try to tell us that it isn’t for money.  City Council gave themselves a raise last year and to me it looks like Abbate wants to claim it.  The news and blogs here, here and here keep speculating about Abbate running for Gentile’s seat, but Abbate isn’t relevant in Bay Ridge.  Ask ten people in Bay Ridge who Peter Abbate is and I would guess that 9 out of 10 have no idea who he is.

I won’t vote for Peter Abbate because:

  • Two years ago, I sent Abbate’s office as an e-mail and his staff never responded to it.
  • Mr. Abbate isn’t on social media. He doesn’t want to communicate with the community anymore than he already does. While most people work and don’t have the time to contact their elected officials, social media allows for 24/7 communication. That is very important in our community. You can’t claim it’s not part of his generation because even Trump is on FB and Twitter. I don’t think a politician needs to have a social media account on every site, but all should have some way for people to easily communicate with you.
  • I didn’t like the way Peter Abbate handled Officer Peter Liang’s situation. I felt like Liang needed someone to beat the drummer louder and either Abbate didn’t want to or wasn’t able to.
  • Mr. Abbate claims that no one is stepping forward to run in Bay Ridge. Abbate is fully aware that Bay Ridge has a  qualified individual.  Either Peter Abbate is playing politics or he lives under a rock – everyone knows who is interested in the seat and everyone knows who is active here in Bay Ridge. Mr. Abbate must not attend many events in Bay Ridge, but we do and we see the same person at everything because he loves these type of events.

Congratulations on your recent win Mr. Abbate. Please stay with what you know – Albany. The work flow up there isn’t too heavy or demanding.

Bay Ridge is a gerrymandered district and representation from the state representatives is kind of weak. We need our Councilman to be filled with A LOT of ENERGY, has connections all over and one who wants to communicate A LOT.
