January 1, 2017Dan Donovan Celebrates His Last New Year as a Congressman
Dan Donovan threw some money to the Kings County Politics blog so they would post his new years message:
Hopefully, this is Dan’s last New Year as #BayRidge and Staten Island’s Congressman. He isn’t effective, he’s poor at communicating to the community and he doesn’t seem to enjoy talking with people. Donovan will host very short meetings (1 hour only) and end the meeting – (whether live in-person or online) at the very minute the meeting is suppose to end, even though constituents have questions.
I’m glad there are groups like Fight Back Bay Ridge who are watching Donovan’s lack of advocacy for young people in NYC.

January 1, 2017Shore Ridge Cares – Helps Senior Citizens in Bay Ridge
Shore Ridge Cares serves about 300 seniors who live between 74th and 88th Sts., from Shore Road to Fourth Ave. More than 22% of all residents in the area are 60 years of age or older. They occupy more than 40% of the homes, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures.

January 1, 2017What is there to do on New Year’s Day in Brooklyn?
Happy 2017! What is there to do on New Year’s Day in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn?
- The Polar Bear Club will be doing their annual swim at Coney Island Beach at 1:00 pm. Start the year off with a refreshing swim or go and watch them. Anyone can swim – it’s free, but you have to register. Meet on the Boardwalk in Coney Island a little before 1:00 pm on Sunday. A lot of people like to watch the event from Ruby’s bar located at 1213 Boardwalk West or Coney Island Brewing Company.
- The NY Aquarium in Coney Island is open on New Years Day from 10 am -4:30 pm so many people like to go there after watching the polar bears swim. People who have a wristband from the Polar Bear Swim, get in free.
- Magic Show at Coney Island Museum 12 PM and 3 PM $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 12. The museum is at 1208 Surf Avenue.
- Grab some bread and go feed some swans and ducks. We saw them a few weeks ago and it’s awesome because there aren’t a lot of other people there.
- Prospect Park Zoo is open on New Years Day too
- Ikea is open from 10 am to 9 pm (regular hours) on New Years Day
- Ice skating at Prospect Park and events all day at Prospect Park
- There’s a train show at the New York Botanic Garden which is open 10 am – 4 pm (the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is closed)
- *We go to brunch on 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge on New Year’s Day.

December 30, 2016New Batting Cages Coming to Brooklyn
Years ago there were several batting cages in Brooklyn. Young baseball players went their to practice their swing especially before the Spring leagues started up.
Over the years they all closed up with the one on Third Avenue closing last. Brooklynites have to go to Queens or Staten Island or join a league like the 68th Precinct to use a batting cage.
The new batting cage called Brooklyn Slugger will be open in Brooklyn on January 7th. It is located at 76 Verona Street – around the Ikea area. Here’s the website and their Facebook page.

December 30, 2016Why Doesn’t Paula Katinas Want Us to Know The Whole Story?
Why would Katinas not disclose the relationship between this man and his boss? John Quaglione can easily talk to Senator Golden and get answers about the MTA. Did Katinas not want Ridgites to know that he works for Golden? Why didn’t Paula Katinas ask Marty Golden what he is going to do about it? Why didn’t The Eagle send someone to the meeting and get various views from NY’ers? Strangely, the article notes that Quaglione sent in a picture of himself which looks like Assemblywoman Malliotakis’ picture from last year?
I sent a tweet to the Brooklyn Eagle to correct the story (at least online). The Eagle didn’t respond but the paper sent me a tweet which said I was a top interactors. #SocialMediaFail

December 28, 2016Justin Brannan-He’s Just Right for Bay Ridge!
Update: A lot has changed in two years. Brannan isn’t who I thought he was. For two years, he pretended he was going to help with property taxes, but it was just bogus newspaper articles to make us think he was doing something.

Justin Brannan is running for City Council. I was glad to see that Brannan wants to be our Councilman as he already had a great position with the Department of Education (and well paying too). If you live in Bay Ridge, you know Brannan is an asset to us! He loves Bay Ridge! I know this isn’t election season, but we are seeing outsiders and people who haven’t done anything in Bay Ridge stating that they want to run to represent us. Bay Ridge is a gerrymandered district and our councilperson must be someone who represents the people of this area.
Brannan, his wife, Leigh and his Mom own The Art Room in Bay Ridge.

December 28, 2016Baby Jesus is Missing
Baby Jesus was taken from Visitation’s Manager and also from the stable at St. Anselm in Bay Ridge. :(
No one needs Baby Jesus, so just drop him in my garden or leave me a message where he is and we’ll go get him – no questions asked. Seriously because there are things people need to take that have some value to them, but taking Baby Jesus will just give you thirty years of bad luck (and who wants 30 years of bad luck?)
The pastor at St. Anselm thinks he knows who took Baby Jesus for safe keeping (see story).
