Dan Donovan – The Congressman Who Forgets He Represents Bay Ridge

President Donald Trump issued a Muslim Ban and Congressman Dan Donovan doesn’t think he needs to be present for his community in Bay Ridge. People have so many questions and concerns. Donovan wants to hold the title of Congressman, but would rather sit at his desk in Staten Island than travel over the bridge and hold a town hall meeting.

Has Donovan ever held a town hall in Bay Ridge?

Press release politics is the name of the game for Donovan. I can bet if I showed ten Bay Ridge residents Dan Donavan’s picture, 9 out of 10 would not be able to identify him either by name or as their Congressman.

One day, Dan Donovan’s daughter will have to sit and watch the video of  Eric Garner and this video of  her father being out of touch with the people he is suppose to represent.

Since Donovan wouldn’t hear the people (some yelled out to Donovan, “Answer your phone””) they went to him. (See the story and the video)   Donovan is outshined by almost everyone who spoke after him.

Story here too.

Liam McCabe and John Quaglione are Running for City Council – Bay Ridge

Liam McCabe and John Quaglione are running for City Council – Bay Ridge

See update:  August 2017 Debate

The Republican Party in Bay Ridge must be dead.  Two candidates – John Quaglione and Liam McCabe  announced they are running for the City Council position for Bay Ridge.  Why was Ted Ghorra so anxious to become the head of the Republican Party if he wasn’t going to put up local Republicans for office?  It obviously isn’t the united party that Ghorra tried to present as support is divided amongst the different factions.

John Quaglione works at Marty Golden’s office and is a typical politician. Quaglione thinks crying on Twitter to NYC 311 or taking a picture of graffiti on a mailbox is “doing something.”  All it does is show us that Marty Golden doesn’t have any connections and his staff can’t get the job done. Quaglione already ran for City Council and lost (by a lot).  A few years ago we contacted Marty Golden and had to deal with Quaglione instead.  Quaglione’s comunication skills were very poor and his attitude throughout was that he was doing us a favor. He didn’t get back to us and seemed so disorganized – Golden should have stepped in and handled it when he saw Quaglione did not.  Ironically, when I wrote about my experience with Quaglione as Golden’s staffer, I received a lot of messags.  I also received a weird response from someone using the character name, Emily Thorne. The IP address 38.108.201.10  (see pic below or it in the comments). IP locators have really improved a lot over the years – try this one  here with that IP address. Then search go to LinkedIn and search for the organization and scroll through – we were surprised to see who was behind the message. You never know who is lurking and being a creep.

Liam McCabe also announced he is running.   In September, McCabe yammered on about being a Conservative – see video below.   Now  McCabe is a Republican.

In the video, McCabe is known introduced as a community activist.  McCabe found some support on Facebook after calling DeBlasio some names on Facebook, but most people in Bay Ridge just recognize that it’s noise.  On February 6th, McCabe will be participating in the Hope Count even though he is aware the 2016 Hope Count tried to tell us that homelessness was down 12% last year, when everyone in NYC knows homelessness  is up.  The Hope Count doesn’t change a thing for the people in our neighborhood who are homeless. McCabe worked for a Congressman who had the resources to change the homeless situation in Bay Ridge and neither Donovan (or McCabe) did a thing about it.   McCabe also worked for Congressman Grimm,  who most people in Bay Ridge didn’t know.  When Grimm walked in parades, people would whisper, “Who is that?”  A man running before Grimm would yell out, “Shake Congressman Grimm’s hand.”   The two absent Congressmen are all McCabe has known, so Bay Ridge can’t expect much here.  I don’t personally know McCabe, but I had an unpleasant encounter with him online.  In fact, we are actually surprised to see he is running for office.   I will share more on this when I have time.  For now, some are enjoying watching McCabe pandering.

Finally, there is the candidate running over the bridge from Staten Island trying to claim the 145k councilman salary. Staten Island Bob  is being backed by the Craig Eaton faction and developer/supermarket owner John Catsimatidis.  Like Quaglione,  Capano has already run for City Council for our area and lost. Capano also tried to be our Assemblyman and lost. I’ve lived in Bay Ridge for seven  years and I have never seen Capano at any event here (Chris Hoban Run, Festivals, etc) . Capano is a press release politician like Nicole Malliotakis. I wrote about why Capano is wrong for Bay Ridge here. I guess Capano thought the Bay Ridge seat was open and no one was going to run for it. Why didn’t he try for a position in Staten Island where he has lived all of these years?

Capano lost to Gentile

Capano lost to Brook-Krasny

If the Republican Party had an ounce of strength in Bay Ridge, Ghorra would  endorse Quaglione because he is the only Republican candidate in the area. The fact that he isn’t endorsing him for the primary tells us Ghorra doesn’t think Quaglione can win. Ghorra should be denouncing Bob Capano as he is from Staten Island and hasn’t been part of Bay Ridge for many years. And McCabe has only been a Republican for three months so I am not sure how well he could represent the Republican party.  Maybe Ghorra is holding back and there will be “a secret candidate” before closing time.

The online banter between the candidate is funny and very telling. Both Capano and McCabe must be afraid of Quaglione as they teamed up on Twitter.   Quags has been a Republican all his life and lives in Bay Ridge.

Several sites say that  Quags announcement on the same day as McCabes was a political punch, but Quaglione probably believes he was the only one who should be announcing candidacy since he was the last candidate to run for the position.

Quaglione has only called out Capano because of  Staten Island……Staten Island Bob.

Malliotakis Keeps Pushing the Same Bill – Even Though they Were Refused the Year Before

Nicole Malliotakis

One thing about Nicole Malliotakis, she will keep beating a dead horse.

I’ve seen her do this over and over. Once a bill is dead – move on Nicole. It’s like she gets stuck or doesn’t want to write a new bill, so she just keeps beating on the old bill to make it look like she is doing something.

Lead Found in the Water at McKinley JHS – Brooklyn

The drinking water at McKinley Junior High School contained dangerously high levels of lead – story here.  McKinley Junior High School is on on 73rd Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway. There are a lot of old schools in Brooklyn. Of course, these old schools have old plumbing systems. It’s good that they are checking and making repairs so the schools are safe for children.

Bob Capano Fails at Press Release Politics

Bob Capano tweeted a press release yesterday, January 30th. The press release had Vito Palmeri’s name at the top. As usual, the press release didn’t mention anything the politician is DOING for Bay Ridge. It’s just a nonsense press release that a politician uses to get his name in the paper. Weak journalists let press releases into their paper because it’s easier than researching and finding out the news!

If either Staten Island Bob or his Communications Director,  Vito Palmeri reread the press release,  they would have caught that the word Council was misspelled.

I shared Capano’s tweet:

Here’s my tweet with Capano’s tweet unavailable because he deleted it. This is the second time a Capano tweet has disappeared (read about the first deleted tweet here).

Justin Brannan has been standing with Bay Ridge parents for years! Capano would know that if he lived here.

Imagine this guy was actually elected and  just sent out press releases haphazardly!

Bay Ridge has enough press release politicians!
