May 15, 2025CB 10 Didn’t Tell The Community There Was Going to Be 50 New Citibike Stations

Community Board 10 held a meeting tonight about 50 new Citibike docks coming to Bay Ridge this Fall.
Each square and triangle is where they want to install a Citibike dock:

The manager and head of CB 10 failed to send out a community notice saying: Fifty New Citibike Stations are coming to Bay Ridge.

Their flyer for the meeting tonight had the topic at the bottom of the flyer. Only six locations were shared:

At past meetings, CB 10 failed to tell Bay Ridge that Transportation Alternatives an anti-car group, which lobbies our government was speaking at the meeting. The employee of TransAlt was present like a concerned citizen. Why didn’t Jaynemarie Capetanakis and Josephine share that with CB 10?

Last year, Transalt displayed who funded them on their website:

Last week, Senator Andrew Gounardes wrote on social media that he took a walk with “his neighbors.” Gounardes failed to mention that Transalt was walking with him. We need a new senator. See here:
Andrew Gounardes mother was on CB 10 – she recently resigned.

These Citibike docks are not going throughout Community Board 10 – they are just going in Bay Ridge – none for Dyker Heights.

About 1/3 of the docks are on the sidewalk. The rest are taking street parking (at least one parking spot per dock.
16 bikes per station – on average.
These are the locations according to the presentation at Community Board 10

On the maps, the triangle are the docks which are on the sidewalk.

#50 – 95th Street and 4th Avenue – near the new elevator or library.
The DOT will notify the property owners that bikes will be placed near their property.
The head of the Merchants of 3rd Avenue expressed that some of the docks on 3rd Avenue are in very busy locations and should be reconsidered because people need the spots to park and shop/eat on the Avenue.
Whose making money? Lyft.

Having some Citibikes in Bay Ridge for people who enjoy cycling is good. This is an oversaturation of bikes, which tells us that there are no elected leaders who understand what is happening in our community or care.

The head of the 3rd Avenue Merchants and Joe L. both spoke well for the community and the concern for 3rd Avenue businesses.

May 14, 2025Questions About Work at PS 176 Answered & Support from Pols

PS 176, like many old schools in Brooklyn was being updated with new windows. The construction crew didn’t receive the replacement windows, but removed the old windows.
Parents at PS 176 were concerned about their children’s health and asked to see the documents about the work being done on the school. Several parents wrote to me, so I was glad to see they were able to share the documents.
The school emailed the parents all the documents and posted them on their website:
https://www.ps176.org
This is on the bottom left of their site:

Some parents expressed concern for the documents only being in English. If you need another language, download the Google Translate app for your phone. It will allow you to take a picture of the text and it can translate. While the translation is not 100%, it’s pretty good.
Tonight there was a CEC meeting. Assemblyman Lester Chan was in Albany, but took the time to connect to the CEC meeting. HGe let the parents know that he is focused on this issue. Assemblyman Chan’s staffer was also present in person at the meeting. He told the parents that they submitted questions and they will take action with an attorney if they don’t receive answers.
NYS Senator Steve Chan’s staffer was present. He said that parents should contact their office if they have any questions and Steve will help them. Senator Chan wants to hear all parent’s concerns. You can stop by his office at: 6605 Fort Hamilton Parkway or call: 718- 333-0311 or email him: [email protected]
