Why Are Motorized Bikes in Parks?

There is no reason that motorized bikes should be in parks. Parks are for people to enjoy – not scooters which are looking for shortcuts.

Whose Standing Up for Bay Ridge on Wednesday Night? Community Board 10 Meeting at 7:00 pm

On Wednesday night, an developer is going to try to win with Community Board 10. The developer wants to put 292 apartments on the Staples lot, as well as stores on the ground level.

These apartments are going to be for rent:

The property owner is unknown because they are operating under a LLC, which conceals the owner’s names. People who rent apartments, which are owned by LLC’s hate them because they can never reach the owner.

Adding housing is good, but overdeveloping the lot is not. Bay Ridge has weak leaders right now, who don’t understand moderation for housing or Citibikes (some Citibikes are fgood – not 49 stations, which are barely being used).

This street is being given too many upgrades because they think no one is paying attention.

This block already has:

1) PS 104 – this school has 1023 students

2) Tim Ziss’ new building (diagonally across the street from PS 104 – where Pizzeria Unos building is). Community Board 10 approved an upzoning for 11 floors withn 97 apartments AND A SUPERMARKET on the first floor.

3) Across the street from PS 104 (where Kentucky Fried Chicken used to be), they are putting an Electric Charging Station. At the Community Board Meeting, the developer for the new development said the charging station was not happening. No one at Community Board 10 said it wasn’t true.

The Kentucky Fried Chicken building has been removed and the lot is empty.

The meeting is at the District Office at 8119 – 5th Avenue at 7:00 pm.

Community Board 10 is counting on you not showing up because they are using the District Office, rather than a larger venue.

Ruslan Shamal is Challenging Jessica Scarcella Spanton for the NYS Senate Seat

Senator Jessica Scarcella Spanton is being challenged by Ruslan Shamal.

Currently, this District 23 seat represents the people in Coney Island and Seagate in Brooklyn, as well as Staten Island.

Scarcella-Spanton’s strongest area will be Coney Island because she voted against the casino. I didn’t like that Scarcella-Spanton didn’t make her support form the community known UNTIL AFTER the casino meetings (where as Alec Brooks-Krasny was a definite no from the start).

Ruslan Shamal is talking about real issues involving development and no one is having those discussions with communities. Look:

If You Are From Sunset Park and Loved Scotti’s Pizzeria, His Son is Opening a New Place

Most people from Sunset Park loved Johnny’s on 5th Avenue between 58th and 59th Street – near OLPH Church.

Scotti’s Pizza was on 5th Avenue and 56th Street. he area. A husband and wife team made the best pizza. It was a huge place and everyone we knew went there. The family sold the restaurant around 2003.

Scotti’s son, Giacomo opened a pizzeria in Bay Ridge, but it didn’t last – it was where Luliano’s is now on 79th Street and 3rd Avenue.

Now he is opening a pizzeria in Shrewsbury, New Jersey. We’ll be making a visit!
