August 6, 2017Justin Brannan Message
I love Justin Brannan because he’s passionate about Bay Ridge and enjoys helping people. His message on Facebook today is below. Justin is down-to-earth and understands what Bay Ridge needs.
“I’m fighting for a return to common sense. I’m looking for solutions to everyday issues — not solutions in search of problems.
I’m fighting because I believe everyone deserves a fair shot at a good life no matter where you come from or what you look like. I believe if you work hard, play by the rules, and look out for your neighbors, there should be no ceiling on your happiness and success.
I’m fighting because I believe we deserve more for all the taxes we pay. Great schools, safe streets, beautiful parks and reliable public transportation should be the norm not the exception.
I’m fighting because I want to make life easier for those living paycheck to paycheck and because I believe those who have less shouldn’t be treated any differently than those who have more.”

August 6, 2017Liam McCabe Files OTB for Working Families Party
In the Fall, Liam McCabe was a Conservative – not just a Conservative, but the president of a Conservative club.
He ditched the Conservative Party in November and became a Republican. The Conservatives have known McCabe for many years……yet they didn’t endorse him.
In February 2017, a local paper referred to McCabe as a Conservative and McCabe didn’t correct them. (See here)
In this years Bay Ridge St. Patty’s Day Parade, Liam walked behind the Brooklyn Conservative Club’s banner (well actually being pulled down the Avenue by his dog). Is he a Republican or Conservative?
Now McCabe filed an OTB (Opportunity to Ballot) for the Working Families Party. We thought McCabe did because he knew he wasn’t going to receive the Republican vote and wanted to stay on the ballot. And changing parties wasn’t a big deal to him. Why would Republicans want to vote for someone who wants to represent the liberal Working Families Party views? The Working Families Party Director called McCabe’s move “wrong and pathetic.” (Source)
Is Teddy Ghorra supporting a candidate like this for the Republican Party?
Why hasn’t McCabe worked harder on securing the Republican Party vote instead of playing games?

August 5, 2017Trouble at Salty Dog – Friday, August 5, 2017
Salty Dog in Bay Ridge had some problem tonight as there were many police cars (around 10) double parked outside the bar and across the street from it as well. I was told that a man was arrested, but I haven’t seen any news about it yet. I haven’t found a newspaper who covered this.
Yesterday was a busy day for the NYPD in Bay Ridge – there was a false alarm bomb threat at an apartment building across the street from St. Pat’s. Story (or no story) here

August 5, 2017Bay Ridge Waterfall
Everyone in Bay Ridge has seen the steps become a waterfall, but out of town folks haven’t. We had a huge rainstorm and the 76th Street stairs look amazing! I’m surprised no one has captured this before now.

August 4, 2017RIP Billy Swan
I heard the news about Billy Swan’s passing. I had the pleasure to get to know Billy was he was a student in my class many years ago.
Billy always wanted to make people laugh. He loved to joke around. He was very funny and he liked to make other people happy. Billy was everyone’s friend.
Billy class was a fantastic and fun group. I talked to them about always being honest and they took my words very seriously. One day, Billy and his classmate got into an argument and they called each other names some names. When I asked each student what happened, they told me all the curses that they each had said. Although they saw me as this old woman, I had just started teaching and never heard ANYONE say so many vulgarities together. After they both told me what they said, they laughed because I turned white and I was so in shock. The two of them laughed so much and made me laugh.
Billy loved his parents. And his mother and father adored him.
I haven’t seen in Billy in years, but I look at his Facebook page today and it’s clear he loved his family. Most young men don’t write things like he did on Facebook about his father, stepmother, brothers or sister. You can see he felt content with them. There’s a video he made on Christmas that he wanted to share to show how the Swans celebrated. He’s just satisfied and happy to be in the family. Everyone should know that type of love in their lifetime.
RIP Billy. I’m sure you are making people in heaven laugh. As for me, I can’t stop crying because it was too early for you to go. Until we meet again…..
Prayers for Billy’s family and friends – young guys aren’t suppose to die.

August 4, 2017Yellow Section – Bay Ridge Pesticide Spraying on Tuesday
If your house is in the yellow section on the map below, then the city is spraying pesticide on your block. The pesticide is to kill the West Nile virus. The city says that they will spray on Tuesday between 9 pm and 6 am. Last year, they sprayed around 1 or 2 am. A siren goes off and they make an announcement to close the windows (I was awake for it last year).
More information: here (the started posting these signs on the streets now). Besides closing windows, you should move all toys all lawn chairs inside until the spraying is done.
