The annual Chris Hoban Run will take place on September 17, 2017 at 10:30 am. Officer Christopher Hoban died on October 18, 1988 while protecting the city. He was only 26 years old.
The morning of this event is always one of the most beautiful mornings in Bay Ridge. The temperature is just right as the Summer comes to an end. Chris Hoban graduated from Xaverian in 1980. Register: here

The Owl’s Head Park Horticulture Group presents yoga classes with instructor Erica Ginger at Owl’s Head Park. Classes will be held across from the basketball courts on the green lawn.
Participants must bring their own mat or towel and any props they might need. Enter the park at 67th Street and Colonial Road.

August 7, 2017Reverend Khader El-Yateem Signs Only in Arabic – No English Translation?
In the window of Brooklyn Kebab at the corner of 5th Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue, there are two signs for Reverend Khader El-Yateem.
The signs are in Arabic with no English translation. Click here to see a larger version of this picture.
I thought one signs was in English and one was in Arabic, but both are in Arabic. I guess Reverend El-Yateem doesn’t think it is necessary to have English for non-Arabic speaking members of the community (or even a sign in Spanish or Chinese). Even a small English translation at the bottom would have been good.
One of the first things I first noticed about El-Yateem was that he represented a church that many immigrants went to, but the website to the church was in English. There is only one word in Arabic – welcome. El-Yateem always mentions how many immigrants his church has. Well how do immigrants who don’t speak English read the site? Even a form on the church’s site was only in English.
