Nicole Malliotakis Isn’t the American Dream…..

Nicole Malliotakis announced during last night’s debate, “I am the American Dream.”

My house laughed.

Malliotakis isn’t the American Dream. How do we know? Because like most of you, we know someone who is the American Dream.

When you meet someone who is the American Dream, one thing radiates about them -> they want for others to live the American Dream as well.

Malliotakis is the heartless daughter of two immigrants. While she could have passed legislation to help other immigrants in a system that shuts them out, Nicole Malliotakis has spent years fighting against the Dream Act. Instead of fighting against an immigration system that doesn’t work, she spent her time fighting against Dreamers having an education. Then she wasted more time suing the city over the NYC ID cards.

Nothing was accomplished with either EXCEPT that Nicole Malliotakis wasted a lot of time. Why didn’t anyone stop Nicole from wasting her time? No one in her family or among her friends said, “Hey Nicole take it down a notch. Pursue something that is going to help people.”

Tonight, when I asked a  Malliotakis supporter what Malliotakis’ accomplishments in Bay Ridge were, she had difficulty responding. She sent me a link to an article about Malliotakis fighting the Dream Act.  This resident couldn’t understand that when you educate people, they can take care of their families and become active members in their communities. At the debate tonight, Malliotakis spoke about a boxing program in her area whereby the NYPD works with teens – that’s not in Bay Ridge. She could have brought that program to Brooklyn, but she’s just not that motivated to do things here.

At the end of this election, Nicole will realize that people didn’t know her or her work because she has wasted so much time.

Many NY’ers wanted an alternative to deBlasio, but we aren’t interested in seeing the Hunger Games happen in NYC under a Malliotakis administration.

Maybe this election is a wake-up call to the daughter of immigrants.  Malliotakis has flip-flopped on so many of her personal stances. Could the Staten Islander have learned empathy along the election road? Maybe, but it’s more likely that this is election season and  Nicole is a professional politician who will say anything to win.

When the election is over, maybe Nicole Malliotakis will stop the “press release politics” and actually create bills  that will change people’s lives because the American Dream is only achieved through hard work, not press releases.

Dyker Heights Civic Association – Debate Minus One Candidate

Dyker Heights Civic Association Debate October 2017

The Dyker Heights Civic Association (DHCA) is having a debate Tuesday night, October 10th at 8:00 PM  – 9:00 PM at St. Philip’s Episcopal Parish Hall. Info here

The ad says: “This is your opportunity to meet the candidates, listen to their positions and ask questions.”   But you are only going to meet TWO candidates because Bob Capano won’t be there. Was he invited? NO.

Some of the people in charge of the Dyker Heights Civic Association are also are in charge of the Brooklyn Conservative Party.  This is the group that used a Placeholder Candidate (John Bruno). John Quaglione explained the scheme to the paper (see here).  Capano spoke out about not being invited to the debate (see here).

John Bruno is on the Board of Governors at the Dyker Heights Civic Association and the placeholder candidate  in this election.  This is the reason we are having a controlled election in Bay Ridge

I’ve seen debates at the Dyker Heights Civic Association and they have been pretty bad because the moderator is terrible.   If an organization wants to have a debate, they need to hire someone who can be fair and control the debate when a candidate pushes his time or is just being agitating to the other candidate. At DHCA, the moderator just stands by and laughs because she thinks it is funny that the candidates argue. Other organizations that have held debates in our area do it much better.

October 11th Update: Journalist, Kadia Goba asked Fran Vella-Marone about Bob Capano not being invited to the debate. Vella-Marone claimed that she didn’t know Capano was running on the Reform Party Line.

That’s strange, Fran! Unless Fran is living under a rock for the last few weeks, she would be aware that Capano was still in the election because:

  • On October 4th, Bob Capano and the other two candidate debated at the Senior Center in Bay Ridge. The story was published in the local paper here  as well as on Twitter here

  • Fran Vella-Marone works for Congressman Donovan so she would be aware of politics which would affect Donovan next Fall

Vella-Marone, said: “I know Bob. I would never do that to a candidate.”

But she did.

It’s obvious Fran Vella – Maron is trying to control Bay Ridge’s election because the replacement candidate, John Quaglione isn’t a strong enough candidate for #CD43   She had the platform to send an apology to Capano yesterday, but instead tweeted

An Open Letter to Ted Ghorra – Head of the Brooklyn Republican Party

Dear Ted  Ghorra,

A “chit-chat” took place this Summer with your candidate, John Quaglione and others.  Your candidate blabbed about it all over the place as we heard about more than a month ago. John Quaglione spoke to journalist, Julianne Cuba about “the placeholder candidate” because he thought it was a great plan. The journalist isn’t a fortuneteller and the switcheroo went down exactly as Quaglione explained. If Cuba misquoted your candidate, John Quaglione would have cried on social media and sent out press releases to  every other paper.

Ted, how do you explain to your family that you backed a man who had to scheme to control an election? The truth is, if you had a better candidate, the Conservative Party would be irrelevant at this point.  The Brooklyn GOP should be pushing men who have valued this community, not people, like John Quaglione who “played politics” and doesn’t care who gets taken down in a lie (Julianne Cuba).

While the Brooklyn GOP website boasts that you are fed up with the insanity of NYC politics and corruption, your silence and failure to act in this situation does not show that.  In fact, the pictures on the Brooklyn GOP Facebook show that you support this nonsense.  Are you just a figurehead for the GOP,  while others have the control?

The “placeholder candidate” is part of Iran’s politics AND BAY RIDGE IS NOT IRAN. If the Republican Party is now practicing Middle Eastern politics, let residents know.  A free election isn’t possible if John Quaglione is sitting on three party lines which were part of “a deal.”  Update: And Quaglione still lost with 3 parties.

Gerald Kassar threw you and Quaglione under the bus because he said he didn’t know anything about it. Kassar claimed that “Quaglione said the journalist lied.”  Kassar thinks he is clever, as he probably thought the journalist wouldn’t print the story. But Julianna Cuba isn’t controlled by the politicians, like other journalists in our area and she isn’t afraid to print the truth.  Quaglione should have apologized by now as Cuba shouldn’t be used to cover up his loose lips.

Bay Ridge sees the truth. This isn’t Iran, Ted.  Your family has to live in the mess that you allow. The Republican Party continues to be crippled by people running their personal agendas. Why are you allowing it?

Please do the right thing and allow Bay Ridge to have a free election.  Quaglione’s name shouldn’t be on  positions he didn’t earn in an election, but rather schemed for. I’ve called for John to do this, but he lacks integrity and doesn’t care if there are free elections here. The Brooklyn GOP can’t promote a man who bragged about a backroom deal and has no respect for democracy.

January 2018 Update: How many elections will you sit and watch every one of your candidate voted against because you won’t choose men or women who represent this community? Did you see notice in the last election many residents in Brooklyn voted for no one rather than for Nicole Malliotakis for Assembly?

Bay Ridge – If Your Car Was Moved….And Ticketed

The streets in Bay Ridge are getting milled and repaved. Hooray!

The streets to be done are published on a website for all to see.  This is next weeks schedule. Street signs are posted two days before, but if you didn’t see it, your car was moved. Call the 68th Precinct 718-439-4211 and they will tell you where your car is.

If they moved your car to a spot in which you got a ticket, the vehicle owner can contact the DOT borough office 646-892-1350 and the ticket be adjudicated. (Story here)

Cheering on 5th Avenue

On 5th Avenue, there was a loud crowd cheering and honking horns because their soccer team was doing well.  Egypt beat Congo 2-1.  The police were there to control the situation.  See video here

This is just like when Italy won the soccer championship and everyone in Bensonhurst went crazy.

Brooklyn has a lot of sports fanatics!
