October 18, 2017Theo Nazz – Ultimate Champion on Forged in Fire
Bladesmith, Theo Nazz, a Forged in Fire Champion reappeared on a special edition of the show where five Forged in Fire champions returned to compete to be the ultimate champion of champions! And he won again!
Nazz’s signature pink shirt didn’t appear on the show this time.
It was a fantastic show as the other bladesmiths were very skilled. Theo’s blades were fantastic – see a montage of Theo blades from the show here

October 18, 2017Clothing Drive and Blood Drive Outside St. Ephrem 10/21 and 10/22
October 21st from 9 – 11:45 am, St. Vincent de Paul will hold a clothing drive at Saint Ephrem in the parking lot on 74th Street.

The New York Blood Center will host a blood drive on Sunday, October 22nd from 8:30 – 2:30 pm.
The Mobile Blood Bus will be in front of Saint Ephrem’s Church to collect blood.

Saint Anselm Church (82nd Street and 4th Avenue) is holding it’s 3rd Annual Louise Troisi Clothing Drive to collect suits and professional attire. You can bring your gently used items to Saint Anselm before or after masses on October 28th and 29th.
Your donated items will allow young adults at “Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow” to look their best for job interviews.

Justin Brannan, Bob Capano and the other guy will debate the issues on October 24th in the auditorium at IS 30 7002 4th Avenue from 7 – 9 pm.
The Arab American Association, South Brooklyn Progressive Resistance and Fight Back Bay Ridge will be hosting a City Council Candidate Debate. Candidates will engage with community members in a town hall style debate about some of the major issues directly impacting our communities including police reform, sanctuary cities, and Islamophobia.

October 17, 2017Bay Ridge Street Renaming – October 21st at 11:00 am

There will be a street renaming in honor of a Bay Ridge hero, Police Officer David Guttenberg. October 21, 2017 at 11 am. The corner of 86th and 7th Avenue will be named: “Patrolman David Guttenberg Way.”

On December 28 1978, Guttenberg saw a double parked car on the street. He walked into a Dyker Auto Supply Shop Supply Shop (on 86th and between 7th Avenue and Dalgren) to find the owner of the car and give him a chance to move the car (so he didn’t have to ticket him………..quite different than now) and there was a robbery.
Guttenberg was married and had four children. Why did we take son long to acknowledge his service to our community?
But here is something cool: “Christian Durante, a volunteer NYPD auxiliary police sergeant, had made it his mission to honor one of the predecessors beyond the precinct memorial section, which he created. He filed a motion in March for the city to co-name the northwest corner of 86th Street and 7th Avenue, “Patrolman David Guttenberg Way. Durante, 27 was not alive when Officer Guttenberg was shot, but he patrols the same area that Officer Guttenberg did.”
Luis Torres, 33 & Pablo Costello were the men who were robbing the auto supply shop. Torres shot Officer Guttenberg, while Costello served as his lookout man outside the store.
Luis Torres died in prison in 1996.
Pablo Costello, the accomplice served 35 years in prison and after many denied appeals, he was released in 2014 on a technicality.

October 16, 2017Fight on 86th Street Near the Halal Cart
The Halal cart owner on 86th Street (near Chase) #Bayridge was in a fight. At first, it was said that the owner had attempted to break up another fight, but the paper says that isn’t the story here. He was hospitalized. Another story here
